Has anyone been to check out Amazon's app store? Most of these apps work with the Kindle Fire, and everyday there's an app that they give away free. Let's keep discussion of what apps we've got and how we like them here.

Sheila (sheilaj) I would like to start acquiring the daily free ones. Is there anyway to do that before the Fire arrives Jennifer?

Yeah, I think if you click on "Get App" and get to the point where you're able to download it by giving your email, you'll be able to go back and download them when you have your Fire. I'm guessing there's no way to have your Fire arrive with them.

And this page if specifically for Kindle Fire Apps:

Sheila (sheilaj) I tried doing the enter the email thing but it ultimately comes down to having to have it directly sent to your android device unfortunately. Thanks for the link Jennifer. You are doing a great job with "the group"

Hurry up Nov. 15!

Clare K. R. (clare-dragonfly) Does anyone know if there's a way to see all Kindle Fire apps? The page just has an image of a Fire with Amazon's "favorite" apps, then a bunch of other games available. To get to the actual app store it looks like you have to download it, and I don't have anything to download it to.

I like the idea of the daily free apps though. I'm just trying to decide whether to get a Fire or an iPad and apps are a big part of that.

Hi Clare, actually that's not just an image. All of the apps in the Kindle Fire there are clickable, and it looks like a good chunk of them are free. They seem to have a good range of things like the Notes/organization stuff and then the silly stuff and the games below.

Dictionary..com and IMDB will be automatics for me.

Clare K. R. (clare-dragonfly) Oh, yes, I see that it's clickable, but it's clearly not a complete list. I want to be able to browse all Fire apps.

Sheila (sheilaj) I'm hoping we will eventually be able to use apps from Android Market as well.

I thought I read a lot of them will be compatible anyway, even if they aren't in the specific Kindle Fire section.

Monica (nutz4reading) | 55 comments This is one of the aspects that keeps me from deciding to get a fire. I have many apps on my iPhone that I wonder if they are available for the Fire. And all of the ones I have are free. Here is a list of some that I have:

Kindle
Angry Birds
Kobo
iBooks
Goodreads
LocalBooks by Library Thing
Barnes and Noble
eReader
Comics
Syfy CC09
iFlow reader

Card game apps

And more.

I may go out tomorrow and look at other tablets to get more information on what they have available too.

I did speak to my daughter's boyfriend and he said to wait and see after people have them and see if it will be worth it to get. So I may be asking questions after November 15th to see what you all think of your Fire!

I do see that they have the Kobo and the goodreads app for free. Which is one plus.

Clare K. R. (clare-dragonfly) Monica, that's what I'm thinking, too--wait until people have the Fire so I can find out what the app situation is. It's frustrating that Amazon isn't being clear about what apps will be available.

I think a big part of that is because Amazon/Apple depend on 3rd party developers to make all the apps, and so it's impossible to keep track of what everybody is making.

Clare K. R. (clare-dragonfly) I was referring more to the fact that people have gotten different answers regarding whether all Android apps will be available for the Fire, all Android apps that are compatible with its size, or whether Amazon will be curating the apps that are allowed on the Fire--or something else entirely.

Monica (nutz4reading) | 55 comments I am also concerned as to the cost of the apps. I usually just go for the free apps. And I am not familiar with Android or Amazon. I am familiar with Apple but I don't really want to spend $400 dollars on the iPad.

According to the Kindle Fire Apps page, any apps people get now will be immediately available for them once they connect their Fire to wi-fi for the first time. " Android users who get these apps now will see them on their Kindle Fire after connecting to Wi-Fi."

Monica, from the looks of it, there will be a free app available every day, and the normal cost of apps is .99 to 2.99, sort of like a lot of books. There are some specialty ones that cost more, but it's easy to keep your cost of apps down to $0.

Monica (nutz4reading) | 55 comments I did see that Jennifer. I guess I am so used to Apple and just being able to search for Free Apps and find a lot that way. I am still thinking about it. There are just so many tablets out there that I am afraid I will get one and not be happy with it or want another one that I think is better.
