I have about 20-30 pages more to go. Was it Diana that said something interesting happens 3/4 the way through. It sure does. I liked all the surprises that happened in there....
It was Julie--sorry. Lot's going on at the end. Hope to finish this morning. Other surprises in addition to the one you mentioned too. Kept me alert and paying attention.

As I was reading the beginning of this book, It kept reminding me of Jane Austen novels.
When the Philpot sisters were visiting Bath and Lyme.
I was thinking about Anne Elliot and the Musgroves( Persuasion).
Then the sisters settling into the little cottage trying to adjusted to a different lifestyle then they were used too (Thanks to a brother). I thought about the Dashwood sisters ( Sense and Sensibility).
And then the youngest of the Philpot sisters, Margaret, always going to the Assemblies to dance and play Whist. I thought of Elizabeth Bennet's younger sister,Lydia ( Pride and Prejudice).
Was it just me?
Nice! I saw the Dashwood sisters, definitely, but missed the other two. But yes, there are definitely Austen echoes here, I think.
Cheryl and all..., just wanted to let you know how much I've enjoyed your pick for this month. Will be fun to start chatting about it. It was really good. I'm about 1/4 done with my pick for November "The Book Thief." It's kinda long, so you all might want to get started. Cheryl, in an email we exchanged, you said that your October was crazy busy. If you'd like a little help getting some questions started, several of us would be happy to offer help if you need it. No pressure intended, just an idea.... I don't think I could do all the things you mentioned. You get a lot of cudos from me. Congrats too on your cooking "meat" class. Good for you lady.
