It sounds interesting, and I can recommend a few books for Scotland. Might have to see how far I get around the world first.

Or to the planning stage for that matter.
Anyway, I think that if I was to try this I might warm up by reading my way around Scotland first so I'd welcome any suggestions. I love reading things that feature familiar places from real life.
I thought I'd try to do it in 2012 as a Target to aim for. When I get back to my desktop i'll post a link to my list of counties and related books.
I have a list of counties and towns in the UK already from books I have already been too. I wouldn't mind adding the challenge to my belt, I have enough books in my library for both Round the World and UK!
I've uploaded my list of counties. I've gone for the traditional counties rather than the postal ones and I've decided to split Yorkshire as it's so huge and there are so many good novels set there! My list of Counties

Got sidetracked into finding a book for each county in Britain and am finding it much more..."Like the idea of this but have to do world read now may join in later when world books get fewer and further apart

Have you decided on any books yet? If so which ones?
One great book will take you round the west coast of Ireland (beautiful!) ... McCarthy's Bar by Pete McCarthy. Another great, yet very gentle, book will help you enjoy a remote part of Donegal where Pete leaves you ... No News at Throat Lake by Lawrence Donegan.
I can recommend any of the Adrian Mole books for Leicestershire and Grits by Niall Griffiths for Aberystwyth in Wales.
Here's my list so far. If anyone wants to suggest things for counties that are blank - feel free to help me out!
Good idea Nicola.....have just pm'd you re setting up a separate thread. Happy to help with keeping Bob in line - lol
After talking to Nicola, I've just set up a new folder called UK Counties Challenge. All future posts should go in there.
