Divergent, no contest for me. Personally I like Tris better than Katniss, and I like Tris and Four's relationship way more than that confusing Katniss/Pita/Gale thing. I couldn't really get into The Hunger Games. Divergent is my favourite book :)

yeah, its good that its not a love triangle cause that got a little annoying, but tris and four's relationship seems a little too predictable. plus tobias getting drugged and strangling tris bugs me soooo much because thats what happens with peeta and katniss

I did find it very heartbreaking, Hannah, but that scene is really important in their relationship...it means that their love is so strong it can bring Tobias back from a mind-controlling drug so strong it effects the Divergent. It also shows that Tris would rather die than kill him. It goes to show that their love conquers all.Maybe their relationship is predictable, but it's beautiful :)

True, but what exactly is realistic about The Hunger Games?"
in both books there was some kind of war or problem that made their life the way it is today, in the hunger games it was the dark days that brought on the hunger games, in divergent there was some political problem or something to create the factions. the districts made more sense to me, having to cater to the capitol's everyneed. the factions dont make sense to me. Can you honestly tell me right now that you arent smart and honest, or brave and selfless, or any number of combinations. they make it seem like the divergent are so speacial, but there should be way more, and other groups of for example, smart, honest and brave, idk. but it doesnt make sense, its not realistic

I think I prefer Divergent. I am not sure if it is because I read it first, or it was better. I loved the hunger games, but I felt I could connect more to the characters in Divergent. They were both amazing books, but I felt stronger somehow about Divergent.
Divergent all the way. At first i didn't like it but I stopped reading it and like 4 months later tried again. It was awesome. I can't wait for Allegiant
Christy wrote: "I love The Hunger Games. I tried to read Divergent but couldn't get into it. Is it good? I'm thinking about trying to read it again"Oh my gosh, you have to read divergent! I didn't like it so I didn't read it for a while and I regret it! Insurgent, the second book, is one of my favorite books of all time.
AHHH!!!! you HAVE to read it! I wad thinking the same thing when I started it I was like 'definitely not as good as the hunger games' but that wad a huge mistake!!!!! and I saw who is playing Tris and tobias in the movie.... there perfect..... okay I'll shut up now.(:
I say divergent is 10 times better than the hunger games! And I love the hunger games! Oh, and I like who's playing tris but I don't like theo James as four!
why?!!!! I don't understand. he's ..... hot! and that's how he is supposed to be in the book!!!!!!!!!!!
I think he looks to old, not hot enough, too tall and I imagined him a differently. Sorry for being so critical! :D
The last Hunger Games book was awful and nearly ruined the entire series for me, but the first two were far better than Divergent IMO. Divergent is just so much action; training sequence after training sequence and sparring against each other, etc. And there's nothing wrong with that, really. But The Hunger Games elicited more of an emotional response from me, which is what I'm looking for in a book. If I wanted action, I'd go see a movie. I'm sure some people probably cry when they read a sad scene in Divergent, but I don't. I'm not attached to Tris and her friends the way I was attached to Katniss. Truthfully, I don't care if most of the remaining characters in Divergent live or die because Veronica Roth has already killed off everyone I care about except Uriah and Christina. I know Tris and Four are the most popular characters in the series, but they are not likable to me, whereas Katniss--despite her occasional emotional detachment and her claims that she is not likable--actually is, in fact, a character who is extremely easy for an audience to cheer for and project themselves upon. I would venture to guess that everyone who reads THG and enjoys it wants Katniss to win the Games. I can't say I find Tris as easy to root for. Also, I agree with the person who said factions don't make any sense. Who really believes people are only going to display one personality trait? That's the most far-fetched thing I've ever heard. I hope in the last book, it's revealed that EVERYONE is Divergent because, come on. Everyone has multiple facets to their personality.
I like both series a lot, they each have different qualities. Yes, The Hunger Games was written first but that doesn't mean that Divergent copied it. And yes, they have similar plot lines but lets be honest how many teenage diaries books (Angus Thongs, Girl 15, My Mad Fat Diary), supernatural romances (Twilight Saga, Vampire Diaries, Vampire Academy)and stereotypical boy meets girl books (The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, The Truth About Forever) do you read/see? The only reason people are comparing these two and saying that they're too similar is because they're original compared to other narratives around before them.Am I making any sense?
Also, how can we compare which trilogy is better when Divergent hasn't even finished yet! Mockingjay ended really abruptly to me, and it was a little bit of a disappointment (I still LOVE THG thought) but what I mean is the last one in the Divergent Trilogy might be awful so how can we judge right now?
I think Divergent simply paved a predictable plot after reading The Hunger Games. But Insurgent caught my attention alright, it was promising and captivating. While reading Hunger Games, the one simply rule was not to die and it was sticking to it that made all the difference in the world. I was always excited when Katniss does something that is so human and acted upon the basic survival instincts! Divergent was comparitively less motivating, in MHO that is.
Cheers!
xD
I don't know. Divergent I guess.
I love both. But, I think THG Trilogy is better. The characters, the story. But, The Hunger Games' plot is so predictable. The main character go to the game and win the game. From the 2nd book, it was so unpredictable. I used to think that Katniss will be married with Gale and have kids. And their kids go to The Hunger Games, and Katniss become his/her mentor. I've never been so wrong. xD
I love Divergent, but the nickname 'Tobias' was makes me feel like "Oh! Veronica, why you use that name?" and when I read Tobias/Four, I always imagine Tobi from Naruto playing the character.
