The Hunger Games... hands down. It kept me on the edge of my seat where Divergent was good but predictable.
Their plots were very similar, but I'd have to say Hunger Games wins this round by VERY little!
Adding on to the point that opinions could change as the Divergent series grow, Veronica Roth is a young author! There is no doubt in my mind that she has the potential to become the most praised author of the coming years, and I look forward to following her in her journey. (: In a few years, I wouldn't be surprised if Veronica Roth releases a book that exceeds even our high expectations...it will soar past the Hunger Games and Divergent..maybe even Harry Potter?
But then...that's my prediction of course :P Buttt Divergent is DEF. one of my favorite books, and I hope its popularity will grow soon (:

I'm going to have to go with the hunger games. It was love at first sight, we complete each other!!!!
theyre both dystopian societies so yes they may be similar. but i LOVE divergent sooo sooo much. but then again i loved hunger games too. the rest of the divergent series might suck though. and i guess im judging based on the series as a whole. but so far, divergent is looking POSITIVE :)
I read a lot of good comments about both books (Divergent and the hunger games 1) before i read them, and i had great expectations for them... I loved divergent, it was awesome. And the hunger games (the first book) it didn't fulfill my expectations, it was good but i didn't love it..Now here i'm just talking about this 2 books, because i can't compare one whole series to a single book. When i finish reading both series, then i could give a final statement, not yet.
daydreamer wrote: "UMMMM......divergent was the best for me, but ony by a bit :)"based on the first book alone, hunger games. but divergent definitely, if i compare it to the whole hunger games series. the series to me got lost and boring in the middle of the second book even though i finished it anyway. i hope divergent isnt a let-down too!

I had a desire to read or watch Harry Potter. An never shall I.
BUt that is a mute point.
I realy loved hunger games and Divergent but if i was to pick my Fave hands down Hunger Games
Kimmie wrote: "hunger games....but it can still change once all of the divergent books are out...."I agree, we can't officially decide until Veronica Roth has had a chance to impress us with more of her books.
HUNGER GAMES all the way. There was more action in THG and while the plot was being developed in Divergent, it dragged on for quite a bit. Too long in my opnion. Also, Tris who was raised Abnegation seemed to change all too quickly to Dauntless under the most conflicting circumstances. Not all that believable. Don't get me wrong though, Divergent was an entertaining read and kept me turning the pages.
How can i decide??? These are literally my two favorite books! I love the main characters, Katniss and Tris, from both! I love Peeta, Gale, and Tobias! I loved/hated (however you want to phrase that) how screwed over their societies were. The plot in both were both exciting too! I can't make a choice until I read the rest of the Divergent series. But based on what i have read, for now, I like Divergent better, for the sole reason Tris made all the decisions I was rooting for, and reminds me of myself (except that i would not object to piercings or dying my hair haha although maybe since she go those tattoos she doesn't feel that way anymore.) I loved Katniss too but somethings she did i couldn't/wouldn't do. But until I read more i cant make a great decision.
well guess what? i have a profile picture (goodreads) is hunger games, and my backround picture is divergent (the factions) ya i totally can't chose!
The Hunger Games, of course! The world of Divergent had so many questions to be answered and it wasn't realistic to me:/
I have to say the hunger games...it was just soo amazing but divergent is really really good too, just not AS good
Hunger Games, hands down. DIvergent is all boom and no brain. It was entertaining, but that's as far as it goes. It lacks depth. I didn't care about any of the characters that died in Divergent, but I was bawling at Rue's death, and it takes a lot to make me cry. Katniss would never choose anyone over Prim or her mum, but Tris didn' give two cents thought over her parents' death. And the "love" between Four and Tris feels forced. And the thing Divergent suffers from is lack of descrption. I'm not talking about the action scenes--those were very well-written. I mean sensory detail was lacking. A lot. And the world building makes no sense, it's not realistic. What about the rest of America? Huh?
Katori wrote: "Aimee wrote: "The Hunger Games, of course! The world of Divergent had so many questions to be answered and it wasn't realistic to me:/"True, but what exactly is realistic about The Hunger Games?"
It's not realistic because it's not explained whereas in HG it is. In Divergent, you expect me to believe that the rest of the world doesn't exist outside of Chicago? Even if America is set in the future, they wouldn't allow a city to be isolated like that.
Totally The Hunger Games. Divergent was awesome for a different reason, but it still didn't match up to The Hunger Games.
no, No, NO! Divergent is a different story yet so similar to the Hunger Games. I'm not convinced there would be Divergent if there wasn't the Hunger Games. I really did enjoy the book but Hunger Games is noches ahead of everything Divergent was.
I'm not here to argue about who is better. But I totally think Tris and Katniss are exactly alike, and I hated both characters XD
I have to say that judging just between the Hunger Games and Divergent, the Hunger Games definitely wins, but when you add in the rest of the Hunger Games series it's a little hazier. As much as I love the Hunger Games, Mockingjay didn't really do anything for me. And I love Divergent, but it was a bit predictable, and in the end I felt like Diana Roth was copying the Hunger Games a little bit. It felt like she felt the need to add the war and to add political tension just to be like the Hunger Games. That's just my opinion, though, and I really did enjoy both books.
Erica wrote: "Hunger Games, hands down. DIvergent is all boom and no brain. It was entertaining, but that's as far as it goes. It lacks depth. I didn't care about any of the characters that died in Divergent, bu..."I completely agree.
I was a bit exhausted by The Hunger Games by the end. Divergent was a bit more enjoyable for me... maybe it was the lack of hiding and killing constantly and the love triangle... I don't know I'd pick Divergent.
The Hunger Games, of course. I disliked Tris a lot in the second book, Insurgent. I also don't get the point of Amity, Abnegation and Candor, they're quite useless compared to Dauntless and Erudite. In The Hunger Games, every District has a purpose, and Katniss didn't cry over someone she killed. In Divergent (book 1) Al and Will were my favorite characters... and then... oh man. What happened to them basically ruined my rising love for book one, though I gave it four stars, I was still really sad. Divergent is like I am Number Four/The Power of Six, since, you know, FOUR and SIX. I hate Four (in the Lorien Legacies!) and am super Team Sam. Plus, I just love Peeta and I feel absolutely neutral for Four (in Divergent).
I really liked the first book of both series. I think that like others mentioned we have to wait and see where Veronica Roth takes the story in the last book. It's got to be better than Mockingjay's ending though!!http://bibliophilesisters.wordpress.com/
the love triangle between katniss and gale and peeta isn't the best, but its not predictable. in divergent, the relationships are so predictable, will and christina's. tris and tobias'. also the part where four gets drugged and tries to strangle tris is too much like peeta getting hijacked
Kailey wrote: "Divergent hands down. I love Hunger Games but I connected more with the characters in Divergent and enjoyed the lack of a love triangle. I feel like Divergent moved me much more and got me thinking..."
at least with the love triangle it wasnt predictable.
at least with the love triangle it wasnt predictable.
hunger games is better written, i can see the scene perfectly, divergent throws information at me when i finally think i got it. plus i like peeta more than tobias, peeta risks his life for katniss even when she doesnt have feelings for him, or at least doesnt know it. tobias is just.... idk
"divergent, i like it's plot more than hunger games."Plot? Training for 440+ pages and tacking on a "war" does not count as plot.

Realistic? Actually think about it. There's a MAJOR plot flaw. Okay, so everyone has to take the test and THEN they are allowed to choose despite their results. What's the point of the test. And more so, this makes EVERYONE Divergent. Say what? People aren't defined by one trait? Who would have thought.

I love The Hunger Games. I tried to read Divergent but couldn't get into it. Is it good? I'm thinking about trying to read it again
