Locket deleted user wrote: "I googled 'Minho' and the only thing that came up was a Chinese rapper. haha and his name was Choi Minho."

Choi Minho is KOREAN not Chinese. Minho is a Korean name

message 107: by need_the_bean (new)

need_the_bean Actually, I was just reading the myth of King Minos, Theseus, and the Minotaur. King Minos is in charge of the labyrinth that holds the Minotaur. This makes sense in relation to Minho of The Maze Runner because Minho is the only one that truly knows the in's and out's (or at least before Thomas found the exit) of the Maze.

message 108: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Downey I KNOW WHO MIHNO IS NAMED AFTER!
In Greek mythology, Minos is a king of Crete, son of Zeus and Europa. Every nine years, he made King Aegeus pick seven young boys and seven young girls to be sent to Daedalus' creation, the labyrinth, to be eaten by the Minotaur.

Does that not sound a little too connected to just be a coincidence?!

Just a guess but i think its the closest we will get!

Jessica Downey ^if not that then look at this!

message 110: by Ajda (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ajda minho (as james has said probably more than once) is named after a scientist in the future, because as we all know this happens many years forward in time and there will be many scientists to come and james just thought it would be more interesting.

message 111: by Hasnain (new)

Hasnain Abbas Minho might b the minnow fish

message 112: by Rewas (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rewas Thomas as in Thomas Edison and Newt as in Isaac Newton.

message 113: by David (new)

message 114: by Taetae (last edited Jul 23, 2015 04:16PM) (new)

Taetae lol is it really that hard for u guys to figure out tf the kind of name Minho is? Minho is just a normal korean name-- no historical background or story whatsoever. I just think the author wanted to be more creative and realistic by giving him a non-american name unlike the rest of them. when i found out his name was minho, i automatically thought of lee minho or like choi minho XD. Im just quietly fangirling in the theater cuz them korean boys thoooo. He fine.

message 115: by Keira (new)

Ben: Benjamin Franklin
Chuck: Charles Darwin
Jeff: Thomas Jefferson
Frypan/Siggy: Sigmund Freud

Ajda do people even read previous posts, because we've all heard all of this before.

message 117: by Max (new)

Max D. Ok, I think I got it for Teresa Agnes. Mother Teresa's first birth-name was Agnes. So, that makes it Teresa-Agnes, like when a wife adopts her husband's name and keeps her own also, like Mary Scott-Smith. Instead, it's the first name, with Teresa-Agnes.

message 118: by Max (new)

Max D. As for Minho, Zart, and Winston (maybe Winston Churchill? He was smart), I have no idea.

message 119: by Edie (new)

Edie minho would not be minos...no h and i highly doubt they would choose the guy who chose to give up everything for gold...however, that is the closest figure of history to minho

message 120: by Edie (new)

Edie People always ask me who Minho was named after. Well, I purposely did that: because the story is set pretty far in the future, I wanted to have at least one or two names that we don’t know, so it’s someone who doesn’t exist yet.

apparently in interview

message 121: by Agnes (new) - added it

Agnes Pingkan Minho is from king Minos I guess. Minho is a south korean name, and i dont think there is any famous South Korean scientist called Minho.

Frypan is a nickname. his real name is Siggy and he is named after Sigmund Feud. Also, James Dashner explained that he want a few names that might be from the future. one of the names he metioned was Minho, but you made a good guess.

message 123: by Jeffery (new)

Jeffery I think Minho is Ho Chi Minh

message 124: by vaishu (new)

vaishu I think Beth could be Elizabeth Blackwell

message 125: by CJ (new)

CJ Faustinorio I was Watching a interview about Ki Hong Lee, the actor of Minho. He said that James Dashner's neice has a husband who is Korean, that's why he put it in the book. Ki Hong Lee said he was very fortunate because he is also Korean and his character he was playing is Korean, so it can maybe be that.

message 126: by Jeffery (new)

Jeffery MINHO IS MY BAE
I SEE HIM EVERY DAY
YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY

message 127: by Jen Nguyen (last edited Dec 26, 2016 04:37AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jen Nguyen Thomas: Thomas Edison
Newt: Isaac Newton
Minho: I read somewhere he is named after the man who will discover the cure for cancer in the future. Afterall this is a dystopian book so even we don't know yet. James Dashner chose this name after his niece's husband.
Teresa: Mother Teresa
Gally: Galileo Gaillei
Alby: Alby Einstein
Zart: Mozart
Chuck: Charles Darwin (A common nickname for Charles is Chuck)
Winston: Winston Churchill
Frypan: Apparently his real name is Siggy so he is named after Sigmund Frued
