New to Combining Quotes, Similarity Question

That's always a terribly difficult decision, why I usually let both stand.Although, I do have to say that the second does not seem too much different from the first; it's not like with some quotes where the leaving or adding of a sentence can alter the whole meaning.
The person(s) who entered these quotes each liked the one they chose; why force one or the other to conform to another' opinion of what is appropriate for the sake of combining two small quotes? It's not like they are using a huge amount of disk space. And it would inevitably piss off whichever person's quote is altered. It always does.
Anything for a quiet life.
This is similar to a question I have. I wanted to add a quote, just two sentences long, but found it's already present as part of a longer one. Is it acceptable to add a semi-duplicate, or not?

Okay, here's the existing quote:“The fact that we are now crusaders needn't blind us to the fact that for a very long time we have been, as Badger would say, echidnas. I can think of a hundred ways already in which the war has "brought us to our senses." But it oughtn't to need a war to make a nation paint its kerbstones white, carry rear-lamps on its bicycles, and give all its slum children a holiday in the country. And it oughtn't to need a war to make us talk to each other in buses, and invent our own amusements in the evenings, and live simply, and eat sparingly, and recover the use of our legs, and get up early enough to see the sun rise. However, it has needed one: which is about the severest criticism our civilization could have.”
And this is the portion I wanted to add:
"It oughtn't to need a war to make us talk to each other in buses, and invent our own amusements in the evenings, and live simply, and eat sparingly, and recover the use of our legs, and get up early enough to see the sun rise. Slightly different; one is very abbreviated, the other two are longer.http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/55820...

Uh....is this allowed? http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/66771...
I'm thinking that should be merged into
http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/96691...
I was wanting to merge these, but I would like to make sure since dealing with quotes are new to me. I wanted to make sure these should be edited (author initials mostly) and merged. And once merged the people who 'liked' them will still have them in their quotes.http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/70188...

Just wanting to make sure. How would you combine them though? If I try to correct author spelling it says that quotes already there. But the only options in the edit (for me) are delete or for the change log. Does this need a super?
If you correct the author and get that message, I add another full stop to make it different then save.Go to the Quotes page link is an example

at the top right hand side of the page is All Quotes, Add Quotes, Combine quotes

"You would edit the author of the newly added quotes and slightly change the text by adding a few spaces to make it different.
Then you combine the quotes, after they all have the same author, on the "J.R.R. Tolkien > Quotes > Combine" page. Triple-check everything. You don't want to do anything wrong on the Tolkien page. If you don't want to do the combines just post here.
You would only need a super to edit the official quote, not the spurious extras.
Edit: this is the official one line version

This is the only quote (like this one) that's there now. Can someone do a quick look-see and make sure I didn't mess it up. Please!Got It! Thanks everyone!

Since I've just started editing quotes, I wanted another opinion before I did it.
The quotes in question are these (the italics being the differences):
Quote 1
I wept bitterly, surrendering momentarily to my fear and heartbroken confusion, but slowly I began to quiet a bit, as Jamie stroked my neck and back, offering me the comfort of his broad, warm chest. My sobs lessened and I began to calm myself, leaning tiredly into the curve of his shoulder. No wonder he was so good with horses, I thought blearily, feeling his fingers rubbing gently behind my ears, listening to the soothing, incomprehensible speech. If I were a horse, I'd let him ride me anywhere.
Quote 2
No wonder he was so good with horses, I thought blearily, feeling his fingers rubbing gently behind my ears, listening to the soothing, incomprehensible speech. If I were a horse, I’d let him ride me anywhere.
Is the addition of another sentence or two enough to make it different enough to keep both quotes? Or should they be combined?
