Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 62 comments Just realized that the .epub and .prc files that a formatter prepared for me have my name wrong in the metadata! It showed up when I loaded the files in Calibre. Does anyone know how I can fix this, with Calibre or other free-or-cheap software?

Tim Taylor (timctaylor) | 35 comments Hi
The .prc file can be corrected with MobiPocket Creator (owned by Amazon). Go to the Amazon KDP page where it is offered for download. Note that if you upload the .prc to Amazon through KDP, then the metadata will be overwritten by the details you enter as part of the KDP process (but you'd want to fix the .prc if that's what you give to reviewers).

For the .epub, load the free tool 'Sigil'. Load up the book, edit the file called 'content.opf' ALl your metadata is in there (in the tags that start such as

If you're not a coder, Sigil might look a bit frightening at first. It really isn't. Just take a backup first before you edit. Change the text that isn't right and save. You don't need to understand how the code works.

M.A. Demers | 62 comments Karen: do as Tim suggests or contact your formatter and tell them to fix their mistake. After all, you paid them to do it right in the first place.

Christine Rice (christine_rice) | 33 comments In Calibre, there is the ability to edit the metadata of a book file. Click on the title of your book and then click the "edit metadata" button at the top left of the toolbar. There you will be able to change your name and other information. Let us know if you resolve the issue or if you need any other help.
