Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I've often wondered how people get started with computers and the Internet. With me, it was my desire to learn word-processing which motivated me to buy a laptop back in 1995. I had no online connection yet. I simply practiced word-processing.

Then our sons gave us a modem as a gift. We didn't know what it was. So we left it in the box for weeks. :) Finally they helped us to get online.

I remember that my first problem with web pages was scrolling. I wasn't used to the concept and didn't like the idea that I couldn't see an entire page at once. Finally I got over that little hurdle and, step by agonizing step (g), I familiarized myself with the many aspects of computers and online activities.

Without the help of my husband, Ed, and our sons, I would never have survived all the frustrations of getting to know how to function with a computer.

How did you learn all about computers and getting online? -Joy
