Hi,Can some buddy share the experience of Kindle Fire "Text to Speech" feature. I am planning to buy one.
So my question is... when Amazon.co.uk contacts you regarding a discrepancy in your address(es), what exactly do you tell them? Lilyan, you've mentioned a few times that a quick message to Amazon will sort this problem out but what exactly do we tell them in response to the differences in the account addresses? I've been meaning to buy a Kindle but have decided to download the android app for it first and changed my address last night to my girlfriend's address in London and this morning I got a message from Amazon asking me to verify my address in the form of a government-issued ID, passport and all that... so what exactly do I respond with? I feel like this whole kindle business thing is a bit too over the top, especially considering the fact that this is ultimately regarding books consumers want to purchase... like the lengths we all have to go to is mental.
Thanks in advance!
Since both you and Lilyan used a UK address and have both experienced the issue of Amazon contacting you about verification, it seems like UK addresses are the problem. When I created my Amazon account, I used a US address and have been using it for over a year now with no issues whatsoever. I can't tell you how to reply to them but I can suggest a couple of things:1. Create a new Amazon account with a US address.
2. Do not country hop, this will make you look suspicious.
Oh, I didn't have that problem. I have an actual UK address, but somehow kindle knows I'm not in the UK currently (wireless?) so every once in a while the kindle store gets blocked which is when I send them an email and they fix it. ^_^

The purpose of Kindle is to read a E-book. Currently Kindle is not available in UAE. But there are other options to read an E-Book.

I had someone send me an amazon gift card so I can use that to purchase and all went fine. However, hours later, I got an e-mail from "kai" asking me the same thing - to verify my residency and all that... so I responded (as per your recommendation) and told them that I'm currently here but changing my address to the one here would restrict me to access the kindle store. i also informed them that the kindle is being sold here despite the fact that we're unable to make use of the store. I told him I'd be happy to change my address provided he gives me a solution. Hopefully he will reply?
Isn't anybody reading this thread from beginning to end? :-)I think I provided a solution some posts earlier. :/)
This whole Kindle thing really blows here. Almost primitive, them expecting us to read DTBs in this day. Though friends in Singapore tell me it's the same for the there. They had to buy the paperback version of my book.
Regards
And on a positive note...Hubby bought me a Paper White? Kindle. I've got some great sample chapters on board as well as some books that I'm looking forward to reading. PDFs for maps and travel guides are a bonus :)
It's like a 'MaGiC bOoK'. I fear that it's one of those things that once you go there... You can't go back!!!
BTW, I have a bunch of free books on my dropbox if anyone's interested send me your dropbox email addresses

Hi guysI have a question about Kindle. As books are very expensive in UAE I am planning to buy a kindle but I have no idea whether books are cheaper in Kindle store or not. Can you help me out? Or give me a way to check the prices without having a Kindle!
Hope to hear a response very soon.
Thankssss
Books are a lot cheaper on kindle. Just go to amazon.com and then choose kindle store from the search button.Quick question, where do you live? As kindle is not available in most middle east countries.
I live in UAE.When I check amazon it's in USD so I don't know how much will it be if I want to set up an AED account.
There is a website called smashwords.com you can buy ebooks from there, as well as get some for free. Most books there are from indie authors.
Yes you can. Plenty of people in the U.A.E., including myself, have a kindle and use it. There are many ways around the blocked kindle content in the U.A.E. You can buy the kindle through a US or UK account. Basically your kindle will think you live somewhere else. OR you can do it using a VPN, Scroll up if you want to know more details, many people have discussed how they do it.
That is great to know, because I have two ebooks in Kindle, and most people can't buy my novels in the region. The Gardener of Baghdad (Historical Romance)
The Clout Of Gen (Suspense)

Followed this thread for all three pages (well OK, I skimmed through)
Here's one way to get what you want, assuming of course as someone mentioned above: the UAE is not your homebase. I.e your just an expat who want to read.
1) Get your kindle device from any of the shops
2) get a physical (or shop 'n ship Aramex type US or UK shipping address)
3) register the kindle to that address
4) Always ...always buy Amazon Gift cards. These can be bought freely even with a UAE credit card. Gift cards are just a redeem code that you can email to yourself. Find them on Amazon store itself.
5) Apply the gift coupon amount to your account.
6) Buy your book by applying funds from your account.
7) Always do the above exercise from a PC/ MAC not from your kindle device
8) You need a VPN. I will advise you, VPN's are not legally allowed to be used as they circumvent the ISP proxy and you are breaking the law. So figure out this one on your own.
The reason for using a VPN is so that you can "access" the buy buttons on the US / UK store.
All the best.
If you manage to get through, let me know by reading Memories With Maya (available for now only on kindle)
