I've met people who can manipulate you in such a way that you find yourself going out of your way to make them happy, but they are never satisfied. When you meet people like that, you realize that they are sucking you dry emotionally and you have to walk away from them. You aren't doing them or yourself any favors to let them walk all over you.
Personally, I like shape changer stories better. I love to feel alive, and being in love with hiking and camping, I have a connection to the earth. So I identify with those who have a dual nature with animals.
