Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments Hidden Currents (Drake Sisters, #7) by Christine Feehan ... this is series, but I've only read this one book in the series...

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments can you tell I like witches?

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments and if you like any YA:

The Initiation (The Secret Circle, #1) by L.J. Smith The Captive (The Secret Circle, #2) by L.J. Smith The Power (The Secret Circle, #3) by L.J. Smith

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 608 comments I will second Alana's suggestion. A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness It's the first of a series and the only one out but a great read by itself and the ending is beautifully done. You know there will be more but this "chapter" of the story is finished. I've read the book and listened to the audio which is wonderful

The best book I have read this year. I'll happily read it again.

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 839 comments I will third A Discovery of Witches, an amazing book!

I have also heard a lot about these books but I haven't read them yet.
Prophecy of the Sisters (Prophecy of the Sisters, #1) by Michelle Zink Guardian of the Gate (Prophecy of the Sisters, #2) by Michelle Zink Circle of Fire (Prophecy of the Sisters, #3) by Michelle Zink

Nora Roberts actually has a great trilogy out about witches, I devoured the books.
Dance Upon the Air (Three Sisters Island Trilogy Series #1) by Nora Roberts Heaven and Earth (Three Sisters Island trilogy #2) by Nora Roberts Face the Fire (Three Sisters Island Trilogy Series #3) by Nora Roberts

also this is a great series!!
Opal Fire (Stacy Justice Mystery #1) by Barbra Annino Bloodstone (A Stacy Justice Mystery) by Barbra Annino

It is cute and mysterious and laugh out loud funny. A really good series you will love!

I absolutely loved the Mayfair Witches. There is such a rich history to the witches in that family too. Definitely worth the read.

message 17: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jenny1973) I read the Mayfair Witches YEARS ago! I might have to re read them but I think I am going to start reading A Discovery of Witches. I need a little break from the vamps :-) I did read the Secret Circle series by L.J. Smith too. Still young at heart :-) Thanks for all the recommendations..Keep them coming! :-)

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments Well... there are vamps in Discovery of Witches, too... but it's still very good

message 19: by Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (last edited Oct 12, 2011 12:27PM) (new)

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 608 comments There is a vampire in A Discovery of Witches (just so you know). More than one. The heroine is a witch and she is a really wonderful character - the last of a long line of witches. Her family are of course witches and their historical home is populated with ghosts of witches from the past. This book really goes into history, science, and pulls it together in a fascinating story that delves deeply into the history of witchcraft. It's a story to be savored for every detail. I should mention it is an amazing story of REAL love.

message 20: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Kolodziej (ejkolodziej) | 107 comments This is going FAR back, but I really loved the Alanna series by tamora pierce. It isn't witches exactly but LOTS of magic and such. It is set in medieval times so that depends on your taste.
I don't like to do this on forums like this but I did write the last witch series which does involve lots of magic plus vamps and weres and greek mythology set in modern era.
I have never read many good witch books. So many ways people can write the magical abilities and such of a witch. So I'll have to check out A discovery of Witches! You all make it sound so good!

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments Hahaha- I have that one on my TBR list- just because of the name alone. Gotta love reading about another Alana- even if she spells it slightly different

message 22: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Kolodziej (ejkolodziej) | 107 comments hehehe. It's a fab book! It's actually what inspired me to really start writing down my short stories and books. I think I was 12/13 at the time. There is even more magic when Diana or is it Diane. Been so long! Comes into the picture in the next four books after Alanna.

Absolutely agree PA> I think The Witching Hour in particular is Anne Rice's best novel.I'd really recommend the series, especially for readers who like an intense, multi-layered, evolving story.

Is the Sweep series YA? It looks good

message 30: by Ellen (new)

Ellen | 28 comments I read Bound by Blood (The Garner Witch #1) by P.A. Lupton and I absolutely love the new spin on witches and vampires. Witches are my first love, but I like vampires too and I loved how this book connected them.

message 31: by Susie (last edited Oct 14, 2011 06:37AM) (new)

Susie (sweets13) | 4 comments The Circle of Three series by Isobel Bird is really good. It is a YA series but it is about a group of friends getting involved in Wicca and what happens during their year and a day study of Wicca and they must decide if they want to become initiated witches. Good books, I have read them four times. There is a total of 15 books, usually around 230 pages each.

So Mote It Be (Circle of Three, #1) by Isobel Bird
Merry Meet (Circle of Three, #2) by Isobel Bird
Second Sight (Circle of Three, #3) by Isobel Bird

message 32: by Kate (new)

Kate (kshiv) | 96 comments I liked the Kelley Armstrong women of the other world series. The books shift main characters and several of the books are focused on witches. Even when the witch isn't the main character they are still in the other books. I really enjoyed almost all of the books. There were a couple I could take or leave but none that were terrible. I just finished Waking the Witch and it was good. The world Armstrong creates is believable. You don't have to read all the books but I love when you get to see the progression of the characters throughout the series.

I also second (or third) the Mayfair witches series by Anne Rice. These were the first PN books I read. I still love them. I made my husband take pictures of me outside of the First Street house when we went to new Orleans on out honeymoon. I look like a stalker.

Mlpmom (Book Reviewer) (mlpmombookreviewer) | 839 comments Under Witch Moon (Moon Shadow Series) by Maria E. Schneider
Is a really good book as well.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 407 comments Hey Kate, i might be going on a big holiday to the US next year (fingers crossed) and really want to go to N.O. Is the First Street house the house where Anne Rice used to live? I thought I read somewhere it was opened to the public now. Any recommendations on other good stuff to see for PNR lovers? thanks. what a great place for a honeymoon!!

I would LOVE to go see the house where Anne Rice lived. That's a great idea.

message 36: by Kate (new)

Kate (kshiv) | 96 comments Anne Rice did live in the house at First and Chestnut at one time but doesn't anymore. I was so excited to see if it was as beautiful as it was in my imagination in the the Mayfair witch series. It was really fun. We saw the house in the French Quarter where Louis and Lestat were and we went to Lafayette and St. Louis Cemetery. We ate at the Commander's Palace and went to the Ponchartrain Hotel. (didn't stay there, though $$$!) We did all kinds of fun Anne Rice stuff, kind it made own own tour. We havent's been back since Hurricane Katrina but I can't wait to visit again. It was so beautiful.

Its gotten really high reviews so hope you enjoy it!

Would-Be Witch (Southern Witch, #1) by Kimberly Frost Barely Bewitched (Southern Witch, #2) by Kimberly Frost Halfway Hexed (Southern Witch, #3) by Kimberly Frost
I just finished this series a little while ago and absolutely loved it. The authors blog says that there will be more in the series

Also the Enchanted Inc series was good. The female lead is not a witch but shes completely immune to magic. The main hero was different then most PNR in that he's not a bad boy type, but more a goodie goodie. Not usually the type I go for but I had a crush on him by the end. This was a really cute series.

Oh, and Kate -- totally jealous you went to all the locations!! I've always wanted to go to New Orleans. Maybe someday.

It really was fun. I was a total geek stalker. My husband humored me. I'm not sure he knew what he was getting into when he agreed on New Orleans for our honeymoon. I would love to go back but now we have these pesky children running around! It was soooo beautiful and the food was amazing. Ahh, memories.

I would kind of love for witches to be the next hottest thing in PNR. I think it's less explored than weres and vamps!
