Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments why does that last cover look so different than the one Ive been seeing?

Anywho I started reading the first book in this series I find the Idea very interesting although the characters dont have alot of depth and growth to me in this first book and you already know exactly what they will due and say before they do so.Plus these books are two long to have the steady slowish pace that they have.

Overall I like the books though they arn't my fav.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I really like this series. They are sweet. I love all the mythology and the adventures that the characters have in India.

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments I read the first one a while ago when I won it on goodreads, but I don't know if I'll continue to read them. I found the characters really flat, and the story boring. I've seen wonderful reviews on the book though and it has a high rating here, so I'm definitely in the minority. I honestly don't understand the draw at all, but I guess this is just one of those books that a lot of people love and I dislike.
Some of the things they said about Indian culture bothered me. I don't remember specifics but as I was reading I remember thinking how some of the things discussed are more of a religious review, and not "Indian." I'm Sikh, and the major religion is Hindu so I felt like some of the things were based on Hinduism but was generalized to all of India. I know that shouldn't have bothered me, because this is fiction after all and the author is allowed to generalize and doesn't have to have all the right facts . . .I guess this book series is just not for me. :)

I think part of the problem is that we sometimes generalize something with an entire ethnicity or country. Especially when we dont know any better I know I hear it all the time being African-American aka Black. The Author has never been to India or experinced the culture so most of it was from things she researched herself from secondary sources. If she had gotten to do some primary research and see different parts of the culture there it might have been better.

I love to read YA and Fantasy/Paranormal and I often find that when a Black character shows up they are stero-typed and then dismissed. So I know how you feel.

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments Oh, I wasn't sure how she did her research, that makes sense. & I'm glad you do! LOL, I'm usually one of those people who find it weird when others complain about fictional books not having all the facts right, because it is FICTIONAL, but I found myself a bit peeved whenever something came up like that in Tiger's Curse. Oh, double standards.

Ya, she probably read a bunch about Hinduism, but you just get the basics, and not all of the details and assumed it was normal for almost everyone.

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments yes thats a normal type of assumption I thought that all of African was wild life and dirt roads because thats what we are shown here in America. Turns out they have cities and everything and education in alot of places. Universities.
