Sarah | 26 comments I do not think so. It is not Twilight's fault that Harry Potter was not quite ready.

message 2: by Dansie (new)

Dansie Hokanson no, it is because daniel radcliffe had some health issues that prevented him from filming, and since you can't have a harry potter movie without harry potter, they bumped it to next summer

message 3: by Renee (new)

Renee (lalalachey) | 6 comments Harry Potter is finished. The reason twilight bumped it out is because Twilight didnt want competition from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince! It is Twilight's fault, but I am so happy that it is! I love Harry Potter, but i'm really excited to see Twilight!

nina (ladeeda) | 21 comments Whaaat?
DansieLynn that's not true.
Harry Potter is already finished. The release date has just been pushed back.
Ofcourse Twilight is not to blame! Twilight just moved their release date to November when HP moved theirs to June... So how could it have been?

message 5: by Amira (new)

Amira (liightningbolt) | 18 comments Summit Ent. were extremely smart in their move of Twilight and that unfortuantely is the cold, hard truth. I'm excited to see both!

message 6: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarabeth120) | 2 comments Warner Brothers pushed Harry Potter back because they thought that it would do better if it was released during the summer.

Here's a link to an article about the push back: http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/0...

If that's not enough just go to google and look it up, several articles about the push back will show up.

Twilight had NOTHING to do with the push back of Harry Potter, no matter what any of the obsessive fangirls say... Harry Potter did not get "scared" of Twilight.

message 11: by Aneri (new)

Aneri | 186 comments I think.. that message the director gave was a fake..although it was a good reason, they probably bumped it up because they didn't want to lose money for the competition between either Dark Night and Harry Potter or Twilight and Harry Potter. If the case what that Dark Night had competition, then the director bumped it up and then Twilight was replaced. If the situation was cuz of Twilight, than they probably didn't want to lose money. Is that all they think of?

message 12: by Prajit (new)

Prajit (pram) | 167 comments yes... they make movies for money

message 13: by Sarah (last edited Oct 26, 2008 09:21AM) (new)

Sarah (sarabeth120) | 2 comments Harry Potter was never moved because of The Dark Knight... Well, it was, in a sense... Warner Brothers saw how well The Dark Knight did in a summer release and thought that Harry Potter would do better in the same time slot as the Dark Knight.

message 14: by Gunjari (new)

Gunjari (irajnug) | 732 comments hmm... curiouser and curiouser...

message 15: by Amira (new)

Amira (liightningbolt) | 18 comments I think the statement is true. The Dark Knight made enough, MORE than enough, revenue for WB. in 2008. There was no reason to 'waste' another big blockbuster in the same year. These people are clever, they're greedy bastards but, they are most definitely not stupid. Financially, it was a great move. It just makes me so mad that they didn't consider the fans in this decision at all.

message 16: by Prajit (new)

Prajit (pram) | 167 comments its about the money... fans will come and see it next year no matter what

message 17: by Aneri (new)

Aneri | 186 comments Going back to my post, I just want to say that the sad truth is that Harry Potter was scared of Either/or Dark Night and Twilight. But thats not because Harry Potter isn't a better book, its just that the producers and directors are money-hungry and want to make millions. This does NOT make harry potter the BOOK any less amazing than that stupid twilight. Its MORE amazing.. (ps sorrry to the twilight fans..jk)Its just harry potter the movie.. the books are still VERY close to my heart ;)

message 18: by Amira (new)

Amira (liightningbolt) | 18 comments I agree, Aneri. And yes, fans will still flock to cinemas all over the world. Although, I may boycott the opening weekend. Just for me, myself and I. It won't make a difference but yeah...=]

message 19: by Stephanie S. (new)

Stephanie S. It is not Twilight's fault.

The president of Warner Brothers, Alan Horn, explained the change in release date by saying that because of the writers' strikes, some of their movies set to come out next year will be delayed.

Because of this, they needed something to make them money in '09, so, knowing how much money it would help them make, they moved Half-Blood Prince to 2009.

Twilight switched to the November 21st release date after Half-Blood Prince's time slot had been given up. Twilight switched because Half-Blood Prince did, not the other way around.

message 20: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachel-g) yeah i think its just because they wanted more $$$....pretty annoying. twilight could have waited that extra month although i am quite excited :)
and yeah from that EW article, it looks like that july spot was just a better opportunity(unfortunately. i am sorry for all you overly-obsessive hp fans)

message 21: by Gunjari (new)

Gunjari (irajnug) | 732 comments well, i'm sad that hp is moving but i'm glad that twilight is closer!!! i hope that doesn't make me a traitor... :(

Prajit (pram) | 167 comments i hate twillight

message 23: by Shlesha (new)

Shlesha | 1 comments I hate Twilight. I don't care if it is not it's fault, i'm still blaming it.

message 24: by Michele (new)

Michele | 20 comments I haven't read Twilight but much of the media hype is saying that Twilight is going to exceed HP.

For those that have read both do you feel like Twilight is better?

message 25: by Pandy, "It unscrews the other way." (new)

Pandy | 1575 comments Mod
I havn't read Twilight, but I hate it from what I've heard. I know that's pretty unfair, but I don't care. IMO Twilight will never exceed Harry Potter. I don't think the books have sold even 5% of what Harry Potter has. I've also read about Twilight being the next Harry Potter, but most of what I read also says it won't be close. As much as I hate to admit it, Harry Potter was not moved because of Twilight. Twilight moved because Harry Potter did. Like everyone has said, Warner Brothers wants to make more money from a summer release. I also think that although they said it was completely on schedule, the film might have needed a little work. The test screening was in September. Test screen reviews said all the special effects weren't finshed and music was not in some places.

message 26: by Gail (new)

Gail | 28 comments I read both and I feel that although Twilight appeals to teenage girls, Harry Potter is more universal and appeals to both sexes and all ages. Twilight will be popular, but will never be a classic like HP. I reread HP a lot, but will probably not reread Twilight series. I don't feel it appeals to adults as much, no underlying themes, word studies, etc.that we can relate to. To me Twilight was just ok, not wow

message 27: by Robin (new)

Robin (tggr514) | 21 comments HP#6's move to July was ALL about money for WB. They didn't give a hoot about the fans, they are just a huge greedy company in our abismal economy.

I decided to read the twilight series after seeing a preview for the movie. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and immediately obsessed. I read all 4 books in 3 weeks. And, I saw the movie last Friday and the hype and the quality of the movie were equal to the 1st HP movie on opening night. It was AWESOME. I'm seeing it again this week.

There is a T-shirt on Cafepress that I want to get. It says "There is plenty of room in this world for Vampires AND Wizards!"

I love them both!

message 28: by Julia (new)

Julia (sunnyj11) | 44 comments i really like them both. if you read them then you will really see what all of the hype is about. i did some research and i found out that harry potter sold 400 million copys worldwide for all 7 books. twilight sold 17 million copys of all 4 books. if you divide 400 into 7 books then you get 57.1428571 that means for each harry potter book they sold 57.1428571 copys for one book. Twilight sold 4.25 copys for one book. all in all the world still likes harry potter better.

SLIM SHADY Gontier (heroesfreak) | 47 comments HECK YES!!! I SO THINK ITS TWILIGHTS FAULT FOR BUMPING HARRY POTTER TILL NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!

message 30: by Jéssica (new)

Jéssica (jessicamuller) I don't think so. And I really love them both. I don't care if the world likes HP or Twiligth better... It's not a competition, both J.K and Stephanie Meyer are extremelly talented women.

message 31: by Lynny (new)

Lynny (lynnyo4) | 78 comments I LOVE TWILIGHT! no it is NOT because they needed more time! Twilight just saw an open date and they were ready so they took it!!! no one's fault!

message 32: by Gunjari (new)

Gunjari (irajnug) | 732 comments i saw the movie twilight - okay i guess. liked the book more.
now that i've seen twilight, i can't can't CAN'T wait for hp!!! wahh warner bros wah... :(((

message 33: by Rai (new)

Rai | 3 comments Further to Jenna's comment, I also read online that the Harry Potter movie release date was pushed back because it didn't test well enough with audiences, so I think they are tinkering with it, trying to make it the best it can be...

message 34: by Prajit (new)

Prajit (pram) | 167 comments wait a sec... this is random but Muse had songs in twilight? cuz they're mah fav band

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 246 comments Sorry to revive a dead topic, but I just thought I'd share my opinions on this. I don't think that it's Twilight's fault, but the whole time that I was watching it, all I could this was "This should've been Harry Potter...This should've been Harry Potter...". I didn't read Twilight until less than a month before the Harry Potter movie came out becuase I didn't want to hold a grudge against it.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

I thought it was stupid that Twilight bumped HP back, I personally thought the Twilight movie was horrible. As soon as I finished watching the movie I thought that I could have have just seen a good HP movie instead of wasting my money on the Twilight movie, so I was sad to wait almost another year to see HP. Don't get me wrong I really liked the Twilight books, but not nearly as much as Harry Potter. I am hoping the New Moon will actually have good acting in it.
