Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments LMAO!

Well when I was googling for it, it seems like the issue I'm talking about was 2005:
http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm...

Below is a pic from Wiki, but the one from Nat'l Geo was actually in the extraction facility and it was just this mountain of white powder. (The junkie in me is still quite titilated about it.)

Shit! I can't get it to go up:

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Yeah, I couldn't get it. I edited and put in the link.

message 104: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 347 comments RA- it's bad enough that I have to box and carry all the books (K@ says that she won't complain about how many they are if she never has to carry one). I'm not even going to be attempting to bring periodicals. Nope those are going to be donated to some as-yet-undecided group.

message 105: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Ok, I bought one of those little coffee grinders and some Starbucks-brand whole bean coffee...and...GODDAMN is it good. Whoo...I may not sleep for weeks.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Yeah, don't drink that stuff after 3 p.m., if you want to get to sleep, RA.

message 107: by Richard (last edited Nov 19, 2008 03:34PM) (new)

Richard | 347 comments Sleep and sex are the most grossly overrated activities ever invented. Fortunately, they tend to overlap, saving time.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Says who, Richard?

message 109: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Oh, they don't overlap for you, Jackie?:)

message 110: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 19, 2008 03:46PM) (new)

Sleep and sex are grossly overrated?! What?! I don't get it. Maybe they're UNDERrated--until you're not getting enough of either. Then they're everything.

message 111: by Jackie "the Librarian" (last edited Nov 19, 2008 03:48PM) (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Wait, Richard had that in quotes, before. But, no, sleep is sleep, and nothing shall mess with my sleep. And vice versa. ;)

message 112: by Richard (new)

Richard | 347 comments Mess is mess, and nothing shall sleep with my mess?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Exactly!

message 114: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) You don't know sex? Don't you have children?

You people are INSANE! Sleep and sex are two of my very favorite activities of all time!

message 116: by RandomAnthony (last edited Nov 20, 2008 02:11AM) (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I don't like to do one and go straight to the other, though. I like some space between the activities.

I was known in college, by the way, for my ability to fall asleep anywhere...class, cars, parties...I've found that I've retained this skill throughout adulthood. It's valuable.

message 117: by shellyindallas (new)

shellyindallas Probably b/c you wake up before 5am.

message 118: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments You have a point, Shelly:)

message 119: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Sleep, sex, books, music. My four favorites. Not necessarily in that order.

Sleep after sex is heavenly.

I've fallen asleep during sex a couple of times. That wasn't so much fun.

message 120: by [deleted user] (new)

OK the question has to be asked, were you going solo?

message 121: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Haha, oh no, I never disappoint myself! (As I explained in the now deleted masturbation thread.) The few times that that happened was when I was still drinking and with the biker with whom I FAKED IT FOR TEN YEARS !!!!!

message 122: by [deleted user] (new)

If you fell asleep while faking it wouldn't the gig be up? Or does that have a lot to say about the biker?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Ten YEARS??? I hope he was at least a good cook then, Mindy.

message 124: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 2 comments Regular. milk and 2 sweet n lows.

message 125: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments That probably says everything one would need to know about the biker. There was NOTHING good about him, Jacks. I was just insane.

message 126: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 21 comments I prefer iced tea for my caffeine substance of choice, but when I do drink coffee it is regular with french vanilla creme.

message 127: by [deleted user] (new)

Iced tea is good, but drinking iced tea in winter in Wisconsin just doesn't cut it.

message 128: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Welcome to the board, Lisa....

I just had more coffee. I'm better now.

message 129: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments And welcome to Morgan, too...

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Do, tell!

message 131: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments She was a biker? (I'm trying to sing the song to myself, but I don't remember a motorcycle...)

message 132: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 21 comments Thanks RA, just thought I would jump right in
Jim I agree, cold weather and ice tea don't mix, but I am a southern girl transplanted a little too far north. The coldest days I give up the ice.

message 133: by Félix (last edited Nov 21, 2008 07:23AM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) I started buying coffee from a fair trade group. I found out that coffee growers most often get next to nothing for their hard work, while Charbucks makes a bundle off them. Fair trade ensures these people get a decent payment for their coffee. And it's good stuff, too! If anyone is interested, I can hook you up.

message 134: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Socialist!

message 135: by Richard (new)

Richard | 347 comments Banter on masturbating bikers interspersed with talk of tea. I think I feel a screenplay coming on.

message 136: by [deleted user] (new)

But what would it be titled? Sweet Tea Riders

message 137: by Félix (last edited Nov 21, 2008 07:25AM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) Zocialist! Yew call me a zocialist? Dirty name caller, yew. *huff*

message 138: by Richard (new)

Richard | 347 comments "Cuppa Spank"

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I heard a report on Fair Trade on NPR, and even that isn't all that fair. Just going from the farmer to the port, there can be seven middlemen, each taking a cut.
sigh

message 140: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It all depends on the organization that's doing the trading. All are not equally "fair" to be sure.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I don't know, Donald. I thought I heard that statistic on NPR, but I can't find it now. All I can find is something that does sound like Fair Trade is working:
The Campaign to Humanize the Coffee Trade

The chief executive officer of Starbucks, Orin Smith, says he supports the Fair Trade philosophy, partly because it feels like the humane thing to do. He's visited coffee country. He says he's seen that hardly any of the money that Starbucks pays for its beans ever trickles down the industry chain to the farmers.

"The hardest thing to see are the little kids," Smith says. "There's not a lot for them to look forward to. The people in these countries are challenged to feed themselves, to clothe their families, to give them any kind of an education. This is an incredibly marginal existence that these people live. And I think that anyone who sees that kind of a situation has to be really torn."

I think what I heard was part of a radio movie review on the documentary Black Gold, that is getting released in the U.S. this weekend.

message 142: by [deleted user] (new)

Off to buy Baileys, after a night of drinking, black coffee just isn't cutting it this morning.

I need some of that. I slept 13 hours last night and my black coffee is not pepping me up like it should.

message 144: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm pouring you a cup right now.

message 150: by Cyril (new)

Cyril I drink regular, with milk, and super sweet.

There was a documentary in France a few years ago that followed an American family (The French are apparently mesmerized by Americans). They (the French) were fascinated by the giant cup of coffee the the mother of the family carried around.
