Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Lmao!

I'd love to have a dog. Or a cat. Or both.

Oh please do let me know how you get on with the binos Janet. I might get Dave a pair, depending on if we have a bird watching window in Baku.

Dave's quite the twitcher. Not much variety in the birds here. Uganda was brilliant for twitching. Hopefully Baku will be as it's right on the Caspian Sea.

I tried them out at Leighton Moss when we were camping the other week. I borrowed a pair for a day - they hire them out up there.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh cool.there's a birdwatching place near Biggleswade, I believe. We were thinking of going last time we visited dave's parents but the weather was too lousy.

So we went to a stupid garden centre instead. Which made no sense as his parents no longer have a garden.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Head quarters of the rspb. In sandy. Beautiful. I will take you there next time you are in town.

message 256: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh is it the headquarters? Awesome! Thank you Simon, I'd love that.

I just hope we have time to get to Biggleswade when we're home. Probably will if we have to go to London to sort visas.

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Can I come to the rspb place please? My Dad and I love watching the birds (something that the rest of the family find very funny!!)

I'll have to put some of my bird photos on for you sometime.

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Is there a specific area to promote a book I have on amazon?

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments We have a 'meet the authors' area. You can promote your book there. Please read the guidelines at the top of the thread first though.

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...

You can also add a newly released book to our 'New releases' section if it meets the guidelines and you follow the posting rules.

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments I'm still waiting for my order to arrive :( Both were estimated for Saturday and were dispatched on Friday. Even paid 2-day shipping on one item.

Gah.

It's now 9 days since the first order was placed.

Anyone had any issues with Amazon deliveries lately? I usually find them very good. But two (not one) orders being late in a row is unusual.

message 264: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I got my binoculars yesterday - delivery expected between today & next Monday, so pleased about that.
& the binoculars work very well - I could see the flag on the next-door town's town hall from my house on the hill :)

PS hope they went through the store OK

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Hi Janet, yes thank-you, we got your order. It added up to exactly the price of a pint of old thumper. I took that as a message.....

message 266: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments If you spent the group money on beer, you'll be getting a whole different sort of old thumper, my dear. ;)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Heard back from Amazon (they even rang back though I emailed them!) - they are currently experiencing delays due to the UK postal service. Both my orders will run about a week late - in case anyone has ordered over the last week or so!

message 268: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 575 comments I think Amazon are telling you porkies DM,i just asked my husband, what's a matter with the uk postal service? and he looked at me like i was mad.

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments *shrugs* That's what they said!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll cry if my kindle doesn't make it here soon :o(

message 271: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments My Father ordered something on Monday and it got here today. Actually before it was due :O

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Maybe Royal Mail only has a problem in certain areas at the moment...

message 273: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Maybe they don't like you?

message 274: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Am waiting for two parcels from the beginning of last week too :(

message 275: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I hope my kindle arrives today like Elle's dad's :o( It's due on Monday.

message 276: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments A friend told me they had localised problems due to flooding, maybe its that?

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Prepare for the worst, Jud. It might be a (kindle) touch late ;)

message 278: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments *sobs*

(I like what you did there)

message 279: by Vic (new)

Vic Heaney (vic_heaney) | 689 comments D.M. Andrews (GoodReads Author) wrote: "Maybe Royal Mail only has a problem in certain areas at the moment..."

I live in France. When I receive any communications from a UK Government department - pensions, tax, et cetera - it is always posted in a continental European country. So it seems the UK government does not trust the Post Office.

message 280: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Or maybe they just outsource foreign communications?

message 281: by Vic (new)

Vic Heaney (vic_heaney) | 689 comments Louise-Lesley (Elle) wrote: "Or maybe they just outsource foreign communications?"

But why would they, instead of supporting the Post Office, which has been on its uppers until recently?

message 282: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Well it's all about saving money so maybe they use an office somewhere else because it's cheaper.

Cutting costs is much more important than support really.

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Still no delivery :( Looks like Amazon will have to re-send it all.

message 284: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Mine arrived today and I only ordered it last Monday

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Great, Jud - though normally they are quicker than a whole week.

message 286: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Local weather delayed our post a lot although with the flooding during the week in rural areas I shan't complain

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments I do not live in a rural area. And we never have floods here because it's high ground. Get some big puddles on the side of the roads sometimes - maybe a Royal Mail driver got a bit adventurous ;)

I agree, but I don't think all the people who have been campaigning to save their post offices do.

Was it via RM or was it via Yodel? Yodel are the most bollocks delivery service out there!

Being a postcard collector I give RM good business, I do, however, think these recent price hikes are freaking ridiculous and it has drastically reduced how much I use them!

If only we had a private mail service.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I found a huge bag of first and second class stamps that I bought when we came here seven years agos.

Chuffed I am.

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT

My Kindle Touch arrived today! It was a re-order and took just 2 days ;)

Goodness knows where the original order went!

There's no instruction booklet with it - not that I read them (being a man), but it would have been nice to have it if not for any other reason than a sense of security :)

message 294: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments It's probably on the kindle like it is with the rest of them.

message 295: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Oh and YAY!

message 296: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Yay! Darren, yep the manual is on the Kindle itself I think :-)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Excellent, I'll make a note to avoid reading it and bungle through like a true man :)

message 298: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments No, don't bother reading the instructions, Darren.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the group. Your questions and the answers may help lots of groupites!

message 299: by Elle (last edited Jun 27, 2012 05:06AM) (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Amount of bad reviews the Kindle has for not including an instruction manual. I want to slap people who can't figure out it's on the thing.

One review even mentioned not knowing how to turn it on and get into it, but surely people must have some sort of common sense?!

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments So far I've worked out how to recharge the LED light on the cover. Seems to be taking a long time to go green...

There probably should be some kind of physical note, at least, if only to say what to do if the Kindle seems dead..
