This is my review of a book I can thoroughly recommend. It's called Nick by S.J. Ingram and in light of Tim's comment that he hopes we will put up reviews ... NICK by S.J. Ingram
It's the eve before Christmas, the presents are all wrapped and sitting under that wonderful decorated tree. With a deep satisfied sigh you can now take to your bed until Christmas morning.
Then comes that knocking on the door in the dead of night. With the upmost trepedation you jump out of bed in a panic. Any visitor in the middle of the night usually harbours trouble. As you open the door there is a Police Officer standing there with fatal news of your loved ones.....
So it was for David and Janet Newson as they learn of the death of their beloved daughter Joanne. Travelling home in a taxi she is involved in a crash instigated by a drunk driver.
365 days later, David a teacher has finally wrapped up his class, sending them on their way for the two weeks break and is now preparing for the worst night of his life. A night of memories which Janet has never been able to come to terms with. His second daughter Alice has not had an easy time of it either, missing her sister terribly.
On the way home in a terrible snow storm David gets into a skid along the familiar country lanes of his usual route home and comes to a halt in a snow drift. Fortunately he is befriended by a man who appears with his car out of nowhere.
After ensuring David is unhurt he formally introduces himself as Nick and offers him a lift home.
His wife extremely relived to see him safely home, feels she needs to offer Nick some sort of hospitality until such time as the weather improves. In reality Janet wants to get rid of him as soon as possible to enable her continued mourning of Joanne... And yet she feels she has met this Nick before, but where escapes her.
Nick is going nowhere and makes himself comfortable in front of the welcoming log fire.
Here the story takes on a very clever twist as Nick takes Janet on a journey of rememberance, a journey in which she is allowed to see the events which sparked off that fatal evening a year ago. With maybe a chance to change fate, but who`s fate? And who IS Nick ?
This is a wonderful very modern type of Christmas Carol that leaves you with a warm glow inside. Here and there like me, or indeed any parent, you would be hard pushed not to shed a tear.

I've been thinking about a previous topic that was brought up. I for one have been thrilled to make so many wonderful writer contacts since July when I stepped on twitter. Before that I was completely unaware of all of the writer/reader internet support, blogs,goodreads etc. It has been exciting for me to participate in all of these things and grow in these areas, but it is really a bubble. The bigger portion of who buys books is outside of that bubble, the people who are not avid blog followers and tweeters. I believe we have all become adept within our bubble and have figured out how to create interest and sales within, but I think the vast majority of sales occur outside of it.The crucial question is how to reach outward. I wonder if there is a way to all band together somehow to do this.

Kellianne, you have just echoed the very comments I have been making everywhere for the past couple of months. Where can writers go affordably to get the word out to the outside world? How about everyone brainstorms some thoughts. I'm thinking internet outreach because it can reach the most people in a short period of time.
How about open bulletin boards anywhere on the net? How about the thousands of free classified ad sites? Are there open fan discussion threads for any of our genres (specifically threads that would be open to us mentioning our books...without getting abused for the effort)?

Hi Tim, and everyone else. I'm still reeling from a mistake I made yesterday. I went to the Top Reviewers forum and asked for a review...got spanked right off...me and another guy. Boy, I find the promoting end of being a small-pubbed author absolutely demoralizing. I try so hard to be polite about it---not to do it TOO much---and not to do it to my friends on the discussion threads. When I'm forced to go outside my comfort zone to beg for (valid) reviews I get smaked down every time. If you guys could come up with something that worked, and didn't get us all into trouble, I'm all ears. Nel

I thought about doing just that, but was warned by another author friend of mine that the biggies usually only take requests from publishers and mine doesn't do that.
I am content to continue collecting reviews from happy readers who actually PAID for my book and feel it was worth their investment and are looking forward for the next one to BUY.
I have mixed emotions when it comes to those who are dubbed the BIG reviewers since my readers give me honesty and that is what I am hoping for.
Good luck with your pursuit, but for me, I will continue to cherish the reader's reviews.(not that I'm implying you don't)

Teresa Geering is an enchantress, and Shasta Summer is the second of four enchanting fables published by Night Publishing. Here you'll meet a young girl named Summer who is magically transformed into a beautiful young woman named Shasta, her "eccentric" Aunt May, a fairy queen and her princesses, a magical village named Shasta (I want to go and live there), a young man named Merlin who is imprisoned in a black cat of the same name, love between Shasta and Merlin, time travel, murder, and a sinister presence named Erasmus, the main character in The Eye of Erasmus, the first book of this series (published in June 2010). Every page is enchanting and thoroughly enjoyable.
I find Teresa Geering's prose as fabulous and mesmerizing as is J. K. Rowling's: magical, well-told fables that can be read enjoyed by people of any age. I can't wait for the next to novels in this series to appear so her readers can enjoy them. I know I'm eagerly looking to them. Once you pick one of these books up, you won't put it down until you've read it again and again and again.

Book Review: Shasta Summer by Teresa Geering.
Are you ready for an enchanted adventure back through time? I was anticipating this wonderful book months before its release, because I knew in advance just how wonderfully well Author Teresa Geering writes, having had the delight of reading her debut novel "Shasta and Erasmus'(Eye of Erasmus)
This novel is part of a trilogy...and actually is a prequel to "Shasta and Erasmus". However you read them each story will transport you to a land of strangeness and magic, the characterizations so beautifully crafted by this author that you can see them dancing in your mind...You can hear the cat speak...You are laughter bound on meeting the darling Aunt May.
Erasmus and Shasta are bound through time. This is a love story that has no boundaries of centuries past or future. As adults we may need to learn to relax and accept all we read, before we can totally absorb all the book has to offer.
However if you bring to the book the willingness to suspend disbelief, you will be transported by the Author...it will perhaps remind you of the magic of childhood as you find yourself hearing the laughter within its pages.
This book has no age barrier; it is as pleasurable for the reader regardless of being fifteen or fifty.
The final part of this trilogy is still to come, and this reader is impatient.
If you want a joyous exploration, a journey through a world less harsh and cynical, then you can do no better than Shasta Summer.
Author Teresa Geering's works shall remain high on my list of must haves.

I review the works of other people as I read their books but, other than a few "friends" I've met online recently, I have yet to venture out asking outsiders for reviews.
I, too, prefer people to buy my book because the cover or description entices them. If they like what they read, they will buy another book.
Well, I've been away from the thread for a few days and can see that I missed a lot of activities. However, I had to make some sacrifices to do a few things needing to be done. I've added a few pages and created additional book reviews at eBook and Book Reviews.
I've also gotten a professionally-designed cover - appealing to men and women - and it's amazing. I fell in love with it at first sight. Mountainmama also created a video trailer for my book and I totally redesigned the look of the blog featuring my Freedom in Love series. Feel free to check it out here.

Just wondering. I have been up and down. As high as 19,000 something on Kindle and 39000 something in paperback. I have been dropping lately and continue to plug away, trying not to let the numbers beat me up but strive to build the reader base.
