SOLVED. Man, daughter ascend mountain to get secret from monastery, murders, cruise ship [s]

I read a book about a man and his daughter. They went up a mountain to get a secret from a monastery to save it. There were murders and chases by an entity. It all culminated on a cruise ship, and was very scary but a real page turner. I think there are others in a series, but I can't remember the name of the book. Can any one help?

I've read it now and I agree with Dylan. All plot points match, although it's not his daughter, but his ward. Moving to Solved.
