Nichola connor I have to agree with everyone and say this is one of my all time favorite classics, I recently reread it and loved it as much as i did when i was at school. wonderful characters with different views in times when things were difficult. This is one of those books that will be read for years to come.

Lisa Orchard This book is very good! I consider it one of my favorite books of all time! :)

D.l. Irick although i wholly believe that a book can be both terribly good and terribly boring (for instance, reading anything written by immanuel kant), i wouldn't exactly characterize lee's book as "boring" -- what i would say is that harper lee's book is slow. the events in the novel move at an easy pace; which seems entirely appropriate given the fact that much of the book takes place over summer (if i recall correctly).
my advice would be to take time with the book. if it seems a little dull just keep reading. it'll pay off once you've finished.

message 354: by Eric (new) - rated it 5 stars

Eric The book is amazing; the story starts off quiet, but it is unsettling, unforgiving, unforgettable.

message 355: by Robert (new)

Robert Santello Oh my god! Will everyone stop with this book. This is easily one of the most overrated books of the last 50+ years. Foolishly stereotypical characters who are not believable. I have read many classic works including "Tale of Two Cities" , "The Great Gatsby", "Ulysses", "The Grapes of Wrath", etc... This book is nothing in comparison. Boring!

message 356: by D.B. (new) - rated it 4 stars

D.B. Woodling I haven't read all the reviews, but I think ones such as Steve Sckenda's would resonate well with Harper Lee (so touching how he compares Atticus to the father he'd recently lost). While many writers write for the possibility of fame or monetary gain, great ones write to evoke and stimulate the human condition: strength, fragility, compassion, and conscience. And for those who, in doing so, may have found themselves with nothing left to give as seems the case with the late-Ernest Hemingway, the bell does, indeed, toll.

message 357: by Will (new) - rated it 5 stars

Will Once Robert - the funny thing about reviewing books is that the reviewer often tells the world far more about themselves than they do about the book.

Compare and contrast: "It is boring" versus "I was bored by it."

message 358: by Amy (new)

Amy flowers boring? no, but a tad slow at times? i would say so. this may just be because this book was torn apart and analysed at every point which turned it slower, and perhaps if it wasn't then i would have enjoyed it more.

Jonathan I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think when any book becomes a household name and its popular relevance spans generations, there are bound to be some people whose expectations aren't met. (This applies to me and a number of "classics" - chiefly The Great Gatsby.)

Siddharth Rai I cannot agree more with Citra, i read it because of the rave reviews i read almost everywhere. all the time i was into the book, i was wondering when will i find the book interesting. i think i totally wasted my time. i really failed to appreciate what was so good about this book. there was hardly a strong story in this book. a maths book would have had been more interesting

message 361: by Will (new) - rated it 5 stars

Will Once "i really failed to appreciate what was so good about this book"

Yes, I think I agree with that.

message 362: by Aspen (new) - rated it 3 stars

Aspen Gillman I'm afraid I'm part of the minority that finds this book rather overrated. I dislike the voice the story is recounted in (sorry, Scout), and I generally find the book dry to the point of boredom.

message 363: by Hannah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hannah I enjoyed it. Once i got passed the first few chapters (getting into the writing style) i actually really enjoyed this book - enough to read To set a Watchman anyway - which sadly wasn't as good.

message 364: by Emma (new) - rated it 4 stars

Emma I read this book this year in school and it was a pretty good book. Not my all-time favorite but it was a quick read.

message 365: by Charlotte (last edited Jun 26, 2017 02:49PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Charlotte Maybe some would call the beggining boring, but not me. It is necessary to understand the town, the characters, the plot. Amazing book-every breathing soul should read it.

message 366: by Paula (new) - rated it 5 stars

Paula Briggs Brilliant.

message 367: by Jamie (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jamie Dawson I loved this book! I've already reread it once and plan to more. Not everyone loves it though. My twin sister thought it was boring.

message 368: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn Galland Could be one of the best novels ever written. I was amazed at her ability to see such difficult and tragic issues through a child's perspective. It's warm, intense, funny, rip you up dramatic and full of humanity. Atticus will forever be my dream man...and I'll never read the prequel. I'm upset she darkened him. I love this novel. In my story Manasota Madness, I have a small town feel that I find so full of great characters and intermingled lives that I love. This book does that in a wonderful way.

Matthew I think that this is an absolutely brilliant book, and certainly not boring. All of the things people have said about how it inspires racism is absolutely rubbish. There is a reason we all have to read it at school, and that is because it instils good values (Atticus Finch was rated best hero in a movie).

All in all, this book is succinct, interesting and undeniably important. A must read.

message 370: by Jim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jim Busse It is a must-read. A classic.

message 371: by Sarah (new) - added it

Sarah This book was super boring to me. I had to drag myself through the whole thing. But I know lots of people love it. To me it just really sucked.

Abhishek Uniyal Loved this book.... probably one of the best book in the whole world.

its really good

message 374: by Will (new) - rated it 4 stars

Will Brown This book is the cream of the crop when it comes to later-than-modern novels and paints a chilling image of the deep south in the 1930's and I would highly recommend that anyone who encounters this review please read it, if you already have not. Have a great day!

message 375: by Marwan (new) - added it

Marwan Asmar Its an excellent book, so well written

shaona ♡ I picked it up in the library when I was in Yr 7 despite it being recommended for Yr 11s. I sat down one day and devoured each beautiful word and I suppose this is all down to personal opinion but I absolutely love this book and I would recommend this to everyone. I suppose reading it in a classroom at a slow pace can make it seem like its dragging on so I would advice reading this in your own time xx

shaona ♡ Citra wrote: "I think TKAM is also overrated. >_<

lol."

What? Ok lol I don't agree but now I'm curious...Why???

message 378: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne Williams This is considered a modern classic and rightly so. When you study a book at school and still love it 40 years later, it must be doing something right...

message 379: by Olivia (new) - rated it 5 stars

Olivia Oh my goodness. Good, yes. Boring, depends. The subject matter is extremely relevant no matter the era. Might take two readings to pick up on all the nuances and the intensity. Taking place in the south as the story does, I think the slowness is a general tone of living. But the intensity of living seen through the eyes of children tells a much different story.

Kathleen Because she read this book my friend went on to become a lawyer. Loved the book, loved the movie!

Gianna Pandiscio-Ferrero Saying it is good or boring depends on what books you like to read. I thought it was good but, very slow. This book really depends on what you like.

Erin Delaney wrote: "Ok, so is this book good? I heard it is, but I've also head it's the most boring book on the planet...Can someone shed some light on this book for me please?"

This book is so beautiful. It is one of those books that is truly a classic. The language of the book is fantastic and the characters are wonderful as well. As for many others, this book was a high school read for me and it was unforgettable. It was one of the few books I read in high school that I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend.

Troubles Valli Matter of preference. I was told i had to like it, and i actually thought it was passable. No big deal at all. One of those books you have to say you liked. None of that nonsense for me thank you.

Well said. When people ask me who my role models were in life, I answer "Atticus Finch". The father I wished I'd had. The character traits I've tried to emulate. The courage I can only hope to show. My very favorite book, and character in all the books I've read.

message 396: by Steve (new) - rated it 5 stars

Steve Zell Wow! Hard to believe anyone thinks To Kill a Mockingbird is boring...but everyone is different. This IS my all-time favorite book. It's about normal kids growing up in a world that seems idyllic on the surface, but has a very, very dark current running underneath. That theme had a huge impact on me as a kid when I first read it, and has colored much of what I've done artistically since.
