To Kill a Mockingbird is my all-time favorite novel. Nothing else even comes close. On a scale of 1-5, I'd rate it a 10. Boring is ANYTHING written by James Fenimore Cooper.
I read this book two summers ago, so my memory may be a bit fuzzy, however it was a GREAT book. Not at all boring, far from it, actually. It was a page turner for me!
Actually I thought that the book was 'charming' rather than good. You have to remember it was written in the 1930's and I'm sure had it been written today, may have be done differently.
I'd say it's deep. Not in a cheesy way but in the sense that the reader has to process things mentioned in the book in order to really appreciate it, or at least that's how it worked for me. It's definitely not a fast paced novel, but it has a lot of information so it's not boring but rather thought provoking. Like many people here have stated, it gets better as you progress.
For me, after reading To Kill a Mockingbird, it has only ever grown in my appreciation. It's a book to ruminate about which usually results in liking it more than you did immediately after reading, which, in turn, only makes re-reading it that much better!
One of the all-time American classics . . . morally unambiguous, and on a personal level I would say I learned much about fatherhood from the lead character and his relationship with his children. This is one of those books that everybodyb except me read in school. I didn't read it until a couple of years ago, and reading it as an adult, found it exceptional.
I don't know how old you are, but you should read it in high school as part of required reading. Or, at least it was when I was in high school. So, if you want to wait and read it then, it might be your best to wait. If not, then read it on your own. I think I actually appreciated it more in high school because my teacher talked about all of the imagery, symbolism, and explained some things one might not notice or understand just reading on their own. It is a very good, touching, and moving book. If/when you read it, and you find something might be imagery or symbolic, I'm sure there are websites on the book which can explain some things for you. It is definitely worth reading.
I read it in 8th grade, and I wish I could say I loved it. I mean, I loved the characters, but I pretty much had no idea what the plot was.
After so many comments i wish to make it simpler for people. The book is boring in the starts, nothing interesting about the plot but half the book and you cant leave the book.and it has beautiful, touching end.
In my opinion, this was a pretty good book. But I can see how some people say it's boring. I love the first half of the book, but after that it did start to drag a little. But If you keep reading, it will get better. I had to read this for language arts, but I was planning on reading it anyways. I would give it 4 stars, because it is still a very good book.
I loved this book so much. The story totally swept me away, and the characters are so endearing. Also the plot is anything but boring, the descriptions are very exciting and vivid.
To kill a mockingbird is really really good. It is about two kids that are about 7 and 11. It is a classic which also means it has to be good. I read this book and I am in 7th grade. Most 7th graders get bored of classics but this was such a good book that I read the whole thing in 2 days.
I have read this book several times and will read several more. I find it to be a fantastic book with great characters.
I remember being required to read this book for my English class in middle school. I absolutely loved it. I haven't read it in a while, but that's only because I can't find a copy of it anywhere! The book is truly amazing and one of my ultimate favorites. If you're not sure about purchasing a copy, check your local library and check it out. :)
This is one of the best books ever written. It's a genuine classic. Just as potent today as when it was written. Definately a must read.
I was never able to ientify with it, making it boring until the last several chapters, but the book was good in its plot, message, exposition methods, and overall; however, I thought the middle section of the book coul've been trimmed down a bit, but other than the boring oarts, I liked it.
One of the most influential books of my formative years. Loved it, then had a huge crush on Gregory Peck my whole life from his role in the movie.
I love To Kill a Mockingbird; being British, and having picked the book up in my early teens, I read the book with no preconceptions. I've re-read it many times since, I think I could qualify for residency in Maycomb. For me, it is beautifully written, a book that blossoms as Scout becomes more self aware and begins to comprehend that adults are not infallible. Have you started reading it yet? :) I hope so.
I loved "To Kill a Mockingbird." I was amazed by the authenticity of the characters. Hated "Catcher in the Rye." Couldn't make it passed the first chapter.
Delaney wrote: "Ok, so is this book good? I heard it is, but I've also head it's the most boring book on the planet...Can someone shed some light on this book for me please?"Absolutely one of the best books I have ever read in my entire life.
Try watching the movie on DVD; you may want to come back to it later. Its a good book with a good story, but I can understand why its hard to get into the story. I watched the DVD and re-read the book several times. It is worth it.
Definitely a GREAT book that keeps you interested. This book can make you cry and laugh in the same page it's that good. I even had to read it in school and still enjoyed it! You will fall in love with every character for their little quirks. It is just the most amazing book ever :)
If you like to watch law stuff like in law and order, and like the setting in the 1940's (I think it is 1940's), you will love this book. Because I definitely did. It talks about family, doing what you feel is right and growing up in a place where the world is blind with racism. It teaches you a lot and I personally have read more than one time.
I thought this was going to be a boring book when I read it in the 10th grade because my English teacher assigned it to us; I hate it when they do that. The first couple of pages drew me into the book, it's not a bad read.
It's a good book. Classics are sometimes hard to read and even harder to appreciate but this one isn't. In this book, children's views of the world are contrasted with that of adults and how they are affected by the dominant thinking of their time.
No way is this boring. I have a hard time staying with a book if it doesn't grab me from the get-go. I like to read, but I can't just read anything. This book is not boring to me, I couldn't put it down. I think there is a misconception about the book because it was written awhile ago, so people might think it's one of those "old" timey type books, but it isn't.
One of the few books I remember reading in High School. I have since re-read it every decade or so. As 14yr old High School freshman living on the West Coast it opened me up to a world that I was totally unfamiliar with, the South. As a 20 something I saw incredible character devolpment. As a man who has just started a family in my thirties, i saw the closeness of siblings and hoped for that with my children. Discussing and re-reading it with my teenage daughter while she was assigned it High School reminded me of my first reading. Curious what she think about when she re-reads as a young women. I've only rated 170 books, only been a member for a month or so but this is one of 2 books that I have given 5 stars to
I was made to read this book and see the movie afterward while in school. We have to be particularly over analytical of it and I didn't really absorb it or let it absorb me because it was an assignment I had to do rather than something I chose to do. Nevertheless, I thought it was a decent book. Now that was around 10 years ago. I went back to this book and movie. The story is so much more. I understand it and relate to it much more. The story is set ages before me but still it's a very strong story. I really enjoyed it. It was an Ah-hah moment for me.
I would recommend this book but it has to be valued for what it's worth. The setting, the time period, the people, the details are very important it.
It's your average book. Not as mind-blowing as I expected, not as horrible as some other ones. Still, there are some funny parts in it.

Delaney wrote: "Ok, so is this book good? I heard it is, but I've also head it's the most boring book on the planet...Can someone shed some light on this book for me please?"I loved this book..in high school and now...Would definitely keep on hand as a classic..the movie is wonderful!

I loved it and can't imagine anyone thinking that this book was boring. I'd have to reread it to be sure, but I wonder if having some background understanding what the world was like during that time affects how one views the book?
