So a number of folks have asked where I find the calendar items we read int he show, or where a good calendar is. I cobble it from a bunch of different sources, which I;ve mentioned on the show. Today I realised I could actually make my show notes creation easier if I just kept the calendar as an HTML file.

Then I thought, "Well Tom if you're making it an HTML file why not publish it?"

So I did.

Presenting the brand new Sword and Laser Book Release calendar

Nevan | 143 comments I was hoping that your Anglophilic sympathies might have caused you to set the calendar in DD/MM/YY format!

Heathen. Everyone knows that YYYY/MM/DD is the only acceptable format.

Ben | 116 comments DD MMM YYYY forever!

Ben wrote: "DD MMM YYYY forever!"

The hell do you live that has three digit months? :P

message 6: by Ben (new)

Ben | 116 comments Three letter months. E.g. 03 Oct 2011. It has the advantage of not being confusable across borders.

That's just what an alien would say.

message 8: by Poly (new)

Poly (xenphilos) UNIX time all the way.

Well, until 2038, at least.

Anne Schüßler (anneschuessler) | 847 comments That's great, thanks. I'm okay with the date format, although I must agree with Ben. My favorite is the DD MMM YYYY format, because it is the less confusing.

Oh and uh, I won't get a virus from using this calendar will I?

I will change the date format to follow Middle Earth standards.

I get that people are used to what they're used to and that's fine and we don't expect them to change.
But objectively the mm/dd/yy (or mm/dd/yyyy) format is indefensible. It's not in order of specificity. It's insane.

I work in Ireland but have to fill out a lot of forms, reports, etc for North America. The constant switching back and forth between date formats costs me gallons of tip-ex (although you Americans probably call it white-out or something :p)

What's paper?

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

The stuff in roll format in the bathroom. Unless you've upgraded to the three seashells.

message 17: by Boots (new)

Boots (rubberboots) | 499 comments Apparently being from Canada I can use whatever date format I want.

Mordorean.

Ha ha Nevan. Numenorean of course.

message 21: by Boots (new)

Boots (rubberboots) | 499 comments Oh I thought you wrote 'Middle East standards' originally and I was thinking, really? Middle East?

And now I know I'm an idiot.

And will it be written in Elven script?

LOL... do those come with an instruction manual?

If you find one you should forward it to Sylvester Stallone.

message 25: by Ben (new)

Ben | 116 comments Um, this is Sword and Laser, Tom. You should obviously read all of the Tolkien back story stuff put out by Christopher Tolkien to figure out how many years it is since the destruction of the Two Trees (since Middle Earth is supposed to be an ancient forgotten age of the real world). Then you need to render the resulting date in Stardate. You would do it Tom, if you really cared.

message 26: by Sean (new)

Sean O'Hara (seanohara) | 2365 comments If you do a Google image search for "3 sea shells" you'll find an illustrated guide to using them. I'd post a link, but it's too NSFW.
