((>.< Dude. You're character's not invincible. He has to react to at least some of the spells she shoots at him. Dancing feet doesn't count if it didn't slow him down at all. He said he was a worse dueller, and Atalanta's had more experience. Not saying to let Atalanta win, but at least have something happen to him. It's just good roleplaying etiquette. Like how the tree branch clipped Atalanta in the hand, how she got hit with his Body-Bind, Langlock, and Expelliarmus? He doesn't have to be a wimp, but just know that at least one of her spells was going to get through his defenses (again, Tarantallegra doesn't exactly count). Do you see what I'm getting at?]

[It's fine. Just for future reference, 'cause some people can get rather touchy about it.]

Atalanta, too, was showered with splinters. A branch the size of her leg smashed into her already-bruised left hand, stinging it pretty badly. She'd either have to go to the hospital wing or get Sam to heal her afterwards, as she wasn't sure what to do about swelling and bruising.
The pumpkin-head jinx flew at Atalanta, the menacing greenish-orange beam snaking towards her. Throwing up her sheild charm, she hoped it would hold. For once in the duel, luck was on her side. The jinx skimmed the side of her shield, firing straight up and hitting one of the ravens, still immobilized and floating in the air. With a squawk, the raven's head turned into a grinning pumpkin, and it tumbled out of the air, slamming into Atalanta's left shoulder. She felt her whole arm go numb. Could things get any worse?
Pondering for a split second, she shot back a Jelly-Legs jinx and a Bat-Bogey Hex in quick succession, hoping at least one of the two would hit their mark.

Atalanta felt her left foot sink into the ground, cursing as she saw the Bat-Bogey fly over Sam's head. It seemed that Sam's shot from the ground had missed, but the edge of the sinkhole had caught Atalanta's left foot. Not her lucky side today.
The earth was swirling around her ankle now, and no matter what she did, she couldn't pull them up. It seemed to act like a quicksand, sucking her faster the harder she pulled. She now leaned over at an odd angle, left arm still numb. Atalanta pointed her wand at the prone Sam, muttering a curse she'd picked up in her third year.
"Densaugeo!"

Atalanta giggled a bit at Sam's teeth, then laughed painfully as she was hit by the Tickling Charm. Her leg sunk deeper into the sinkhole, and she wondered what would happen if it continued sinking. Would she fold into it sideways because of the odd angle? Not a pretty thought. Atalanta laughed again, tickled somewhere near her kidneys. Looking over at Sam and his still-growing teeth, she laughed more genuinely.
"Look at ourselves!" she called, grinning despite her predicament. "I don't think I can get you anymore, nor you me. Call a truce? I can undo the Jelly-Legs if you get me out of this hole."

"ach shure shhhan," he said spittingly as the teeth grew. He pointed his wand at her and thought, Ascendio to get her out of the hole.

((Nice! :D))
Atalanta shook her muddy foot off and strode over to where Sam was lying on the clearing floor. "Stabilis," she muttered to help him to his feet. His teeth had grown down to his waist, though, and Atalanta whirled her wand in front of them wordlessly, having done so for many of her fellow Housemates before. When the teeth had reached normal size, she broke off the spell.

[Dude. I was just going to use "Tergeo". O.o]
Atalanta extended her right hand to Sam, saying, "Nice duel. You're good."

"Right back at ya," he shook her hand then saw the bruise. "I'll fix that up quick for you. Ferula "
A bandage appeared out of nowhere and wrapped around her hand.
[Back!]
Atalanta grinned, looking down at the bandage. "I'll need to remember that one," she said, admiring he neat handiwork.

"Ow, not my best idea," he admitted. He took two potions out of his bag and handed one to her, "It's girding potion. I always carry it just in case."
Atalanta shook the tiny bottle slightly. The liquid inside was obscured by the thick-tinted glass. "Umm, what exactly do I do with it?" she asked, mystified.

[Sorry, I've been a bit busy with NaNoWriMo]
Atalanta shrugged, hoping this wasn't a Ravenclaw's idea of a joke. As she downed the small vial, she could feel a warmth rush through her body, tingling down her left arm. With a sudden pinch of pain, she felt her bruised hand fix itself with the magic of the potion. It wasn't really unpleasant, but it did sting a bit.

"I'm not sure where else you might be hurt..." he trailed off as he began to look around her for any more serious injuries. He was good now.

Atalanta shook her head, flexing her arm and her finger muscles and was surprised to feel the pain fading. Her fingers looked whole again, not swollen and purply-red like they had been before. "Thanks again, Sam," she said, silently unwrapping the bandage to get a better look. It was almost perfectly healed.

"No problem, you are an expert dueler," he marvelled. "No one has ever come that close to beating me!"
[Parallel world, magic, elves, and illusions. Yours?]
"Nor anyone me," Atalanta said, cheeks glowing at the praise.

He smiled at that. "I wonder... do you suppose they have a dueling club?"
[Sounds neat! I'll check it out.]
Atalanta nodded. "I know some of the Head Boys and Girls were trying to get one started. I'm sure if we asked one of them, they could let us know. Gryffindor House is all abuzz with anticipation--Professor Victrine especially has hinted that one might be started soon."

((Could we actually have team duels? I think it would be interesting. Tough but interesting.))
[Neat idea. Sure, when we get the Club up, I can add that, too]
Atalanta grinned. "The Unbeatable Team of . . ." she trailed off, trying to think of an appropriate noun. Awesomeness was just too generic.

Atalanta laughed, too. "Brilliant, Sam," she said, making a sweeping movement with her wand to clear the area of all the debris.
"What'll we do now? I've still got half an hour of free period left."

Atalanta nodded, shrugging her bag back onto her healed shoulder. "We'd better head back, then," she said, turning once more to the lake. "It'll take a couple of minutes to get back to the castle, anyways, and I'd hate to be late for Defense Against the Dark Arts."

Atalanta grinned, walking along the pebbly shore towards the castle. "Really, you have the same? What are the odds?" She found herself unexpectedly ecstatic that Sam was in her next class. Having him around was almost like having her brother back, although she felt that this was a slightly different relationship. In the last year, she'd missed the companionship of Ravenclaws, with their wit and strange sense of humor.

"Who isn't, at times?" Atalanta asked, kicking a pebble as they madetheir way along the strand. Her hair whipped in the steady breeze around the lake, and she smiled as she looked back up at the castle. She loved this school.

The sun was approaching noon. Saturday. Kids were lining up for Hogsmeade. Daniel wasn't. He preferred the quiet campus when the vast majority of students were away. He sat on a rock, writing something on parchment. He pushed his glasses higher up his nose. Thankfully he wasn't completely blind, and needed them only sparingly.
Bruce watched enviously as the other students left for Hogsmeade. He would have gone, if he'd found his pouch of wizard money. Unfortunately for him, someone seemed to have stolen them.
Instead of going to have fun afternoon there, he was stuck outside with his cat. Ace was having loads of fun, chasing butterflies and nibbling grass. The fluffy tuxedo cat stalked a cricket, following it towards a Slytherin boy.
Bruce didn't care to stop him. Ace pounced, missing the bug but landing inches away from the boy's foot. "Mrrow," he trilled, rubbing against the boy's leg.

A glance down at the cat. Then over at its owner who was taking his sweet time following his pet. Daniel had his wand. A Knick-Back Jinx would suffice, if it would continue to pester him. "Go away," he muttered, and pulled his leg away.
The owner looked familiar. Perhaps he had a class with Daniel. He looked like he could be a seventh year.

"Heeere, cat. Heeere." Bruce's monotonous call implied just how helpful he was going to be. He was laughing on the inside as he saw the Slytherin move away from his cat, clearly annoyed.
Ace continued to meow, but louder this time. He was not happy being ignored. He followed Daniel and wove himself behind his leg, tail curled around his leg. Fur floated off of Ace and stuck to the boy's clothes.

An impatient sigh. Daniel pointed his wand down. "Flippendo!" he muttered, and he replaced his wand by his side. Brushing off the cat's hair (what a pain), he turned to the Gryffindor boy.
He wore a scowl. Idiot.

Atalanta ducked and blew the tree branch away with a swift "Confringo!" knocking it back towards Sam's left side. It clipped her left hand as it swung by, though, and a bruise had already started to form. Good thing her wand arm was her right.
