Me: Yes. Valence shell electron pair repulsion. I get that theory, but the rest of the question I don't understand.

Me; it's basically asking which groups will repel each other more. So like, of you look at the structures (you won't ever have to know these unless you take AP Chem) you'll see that the structures of molecules is based on the lone pairs because they don't "want" to be anywhere near anything else. The reason why, for instance, water is depicted as having the two hydrogen atoms around the bottom of the oxygen atom instead of on either side is because the O atom has a lone pair at the top which repels the two H atoms. You can think of lone pairs as wanting to be alone forever and always and then bond pairs as preferring not to be around other electrons but can kind of tolerate each other.
