Sounds like a cool challenge and I think it would be a great yearly challenge

message 52: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) CM I like this idea. looking at all the nominees I felt like I wasn't making a fair vote not having read all the nominees.

Maybe it could be in levels, Read one from 5 categories, or 10 categories or all 22.

Any other challenges y'all would like next year? I'm trying to think for more A-Z challenges but I can't. I'm going to try and do more Quarterly/Semi-Annual and Theme/Other challenges. Right now i'm working on a theme challenge for next month. It will be more winter theme and not just Christmas cause I know some people don't do Christmas. So if you have any ideas just hop over to the theme challenge thread and comment.

Sorry, I can't remember any gifts I've received when I was younger.

message 66: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Most memorable was probably a bike. My parents wrapped books and paperclips in a big box, for my sister and I. I shook and shook trying to figure out what toy it was. There was a note inside that said go look in the garage where our fully assembled bikes were waiting.

I remember being quite excited to get my first Cabbage Patch Doll too.

Ok I need some help I want to make a challenge using flower meanings. It. It would be for 3 months or a little longer. I just need help coming up with the things you need to read

message 71: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Ok, do you have the flowers you want to use picked out already? I went to http://www.flowermeaning.org/ and they have pages of flowers and I could come up with things for most of them, but if you are going for a smaller list, I don't want to do them all. Let me know what flowers or how many flowers and I will do some research for suggestions.

Alstroemeria- This flower is generally linked to symbol of friendship. Read a book where the H/H has a close friend involved in the story.

Chrysanthemum: These flowers got their origin from the Chinese gardens for over 2,000 years. Today, the chrysanthemum is acknowledged as a symbol representing sun. Chrysanthemums represent essence of fidelity. Read a book set in China, or where the h/h practices some sort of sun worship or where the h/h is already in a committed relationship.

Red Rose- Roses represents the never ending feeling of love and passion. Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, presented a rose to Eros, the god of love. Read a romance book, or a book with Greek mythology, or a red book.

message 72: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) I used this for a "buddy read" and my review of a book, but you're welcome to it:

The primrose, usually the first flower of spring (from the Latin prima), represents enduring love. In the Language of Flowers, it means “I can't live without you.” It tells your significant other, “I am yours forever.”

message 75: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean I have an idea for a challenge. The challenge would be to spell out your name. You can use your first name, middle name, last name or nickname in any order or any name your choose. To fill in the letters of your name you can use book titles and author's first or last names. The challenge can last from 6 months or a year. Lemme know what you think.

Would you like time limits, no time limit,or make your own time limit?

message 83: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) ❥☪LIZZ NEILL☪❥ wrote: "Would you like time limits, no time limit,or make your own time limit?"

Just my own personal thoughts here, everyones reading habits are different.

1. I like time limits. It actually makes it a "challenge" to know I have to get it done.
2. I personally don't like monthly spell-it out challenges. That makes it hard to mesh it with other challenges I am doing for the month. I prefer 3-6 month length for spell it out's. But for a 3-6 month challenge you need a few words to spell out.
3. Not alot of other groups (that I belong to) use character names. They use Title, Author or series, I like character in there too. It makes it just a bit easier to make it fit with other challenges. So I vote for character names being allowed.

message 84: by Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos), Group Creator (new)

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 3564 comments Mod
@Dawn I like using character names too

1.I wouldn't make it a month challenge cause it is hard to fit books in there at you are using for other month challenges.
2.I might do some with time limits and some without

@♥♡ Marieah ♡♥ doing a junk food theme based on seasons, holidays would work. But it will really work around the holidays.

@Cindy I really like that idea. Would you want it to be a year or 6 months?

Thanks Lizz! ☺

I think we could accomplish the challenge in 6 months, but if we add in a few more topics we could make it a year challenge.

Topics: Favorite Author, Occupation, Likes and Dislikes, etc.. there is so much we can add to this.
