I'm tossing up if I should get one. I've got an iPad, but the kindle fire looks exciting. Do you know if I can preorder on amazon for delivery to Australia?

I actually don't think they're international yet. I'm sure that announcement will come soon. :)

ordered 2 kindle touch with special offers for my 12 year old twins for Christmas. Reluctant readers both in the hopes this may inspire them a little more to pick up a book. I have the K3

I'm sure they'll love it. I've heard so many stories about kids reading more with Kindles. I know my little boy has.

Congrats, Leslie! Did you order it just now? Sounds like a great birthday present! :)

No, we ordered it the day it was announced and available. I was kinda hemming and hawing and looking at my virtual jar of pennies saved....when I got a phone call and my partner says..."Sooooo I just pre-ordered the Fire for you." Am I lucky or what?

According to Amazon my Touch 3G, ordered today, should arrive 11/30. If your thinking about ordering keep in mind they won't be shipping all of them out on the first day.

LOL!!! I know exactly what you mean! I've done that with ebooks for my kindle - meant to add it to my Amazon wish list and accidentally bought instead.
Oh my, those links make it SO tempting to order...

Yeah, that happens, also confusing the sample button and the buy button. Gotta keep a close eye on where that mouse is pointing.

Jennifer - that too, the sample and buy buttons, holy cow! I really have to pay attention to what I'm clicking LOL.Kaliki - The Fire Fever is catchy. Like you, I came here to read what others are thinking. With all the pre-orders, do you think they'll run out of KFs? It could become a KFC, a Kindle Fire Crisis ;) Sorry, I couldn't resist LOL.

YES! I've been looking for something KFC could mean. :) You nailed it, Lisa! I think people who order now will get shipping dates several days after the official release.

I see that Best Buy will be carrying them in their stores. I may just wait until the release date and actually go check it out and see what it is like before deciding if I want it.
I was excited to see my Fire shows up in my Manage Your Kindle page on Amazon! No serial number yet, but it is poised and ready! Woo Hoo!grr, I think my shipping estimate changed by a day to the 17th.
Well my daughter had informed me she wants the Fire for Christmas/Birthday present. I told her she needed to choose what she wanted for it and to give me the price because I am not going to buy something she doesn't want. Her father and I will split the cost. Now I will be able to see how the Fire really works before I decide to buy one.

That's always nice. I can't blame anyone for wanting to check one out before shelling out for one. Makes me wonder if they'll eventually end up in Target or Staples like the Kindles, so people can hold them and play around before buying.

stormhawk wrote: "I've already sent some content to mine!"How have you managed to do that stormhawk?
I bought a graphic novel for it, and through "Manage My Kindle" I've gone through my already purchased content and sent it to the Fire.

I think stormhawk deserves a medal for being so helpful around here!

All of you are quite welcome! I'm an old Kindle Hand at this point ... got in on the party with the original Kindle, and I think the best way to promote the device is to take the time to explain them and to help people with them as necessary. I could just say RTFM and be done with it, but how useful is that, really?
Oh, and I nearly forgot ... nine days and a wake-up!
Well Jennifer sent me a link to join this group (thank you Jennifer) and I'm afraid that I'll be one of those hitting that"submit order" button pretty soon. Dang it! I want to wait and see what everyone else honestly thinks of the Kindle Fire when they get it, and I'm going to try and hold on...but I don't know. :) Plus I'm trying to earn enough Swagbucks to get it free. A couple more months and I can do that! But if anyone would like to help me work towards that goal, I'd appreciate it! You can earn your own swagbucks for anything you like. I use it for Kindle books etc. If you do, please use my link so I get credit. http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/Aerorider
I do have a couple questions I want to find out more about. That is the mobile hotspot someone mentioned. I would be using this tablet for traveling on vacation etc. and sometimes I'm just not near a wifi spot, so using a mobile hotspot would be nice to connect. I don't even have a phone that I can do that with, that will be my next purchase with a different carrier also. But I need to know how all that works and if it works good when not near a wifi spot. I have wireless in my home now, so that's not a problem. I'm SO excited!
I am going to be watching closely for this info too, Lora. It turns out it will be a while before my upgrade status for my current carrier allows me to get a phone that serves as a mobile hot spot so I will be watching closely and waiting too. My phone has the wifi hotspot capability, but I'm not sure I would run down the battery on two devices to do stuff I could do on the phone alone.
stormhawk: agreed, I was thinking about a mobile wifi hotspot could be nice when you wanted to grab a quick book, or to see a web page that just won't display on your phone, etc. - one of our co-workers has that type of phone and lets people use it on their iPad's occasionally. stormhawk wrote: "My phone has the wifi hotspot capability, but I'm not sure I would run down the battery on two devices to do stuff I could do on the phone alone."

Just in case of "emergency" lol! But I don't even know how those hotspot things work. Is it a pay as you go thing, or do you have to pay a monthly access thing like a data package?
Jennifer wrote: "Makes me wonder if they'll eventually end up in Target or Staples like the Kindles, so people can hold them and play around before buying."
According to this article, they will be in Staples and Best Buy, but there's no specific date yet when they will be available: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/f...
I'm hoping to get to look at and play around with one before I decide whether I want one or not.

Well the Fire is suppose to be in Staples in November according to the article. I was just in Staples last week and it wasn't there but it wasn't November yet either. :) Thanks for that article....I think I'll go touch and feel it too before I make my decision.
Does anyone think there will be a 10 inch Fire? I think that would be nicer as a tablet rather than a 7 inch.
Lora: The WiFi hotspot, if embedded in the phone functionality (such as some Android models), allows you to use your phone's existing data plan, so with those you are already paying the data package price for the phone. That is what I am interested in doing. You may also get a separate device that is a mobile hotspot that has its own service plan and 'phone number', and definitely an extra charge for those. I actually bought one last fall for my dd but she ended up not using it so I returned it. It wasn't cheap per month, but could replace your home wireless and be mobile too.
this is an article from June so any prices referenced are out of date....

a more recent article on WiFi tethering from your smart phone note there is an extra charge for this service too, and I imagine it would be the battery drain that stormhawk mentioned as well (at least for my Blackberry.) :)http://www.computerworld.com/s/articl...
Ann wrote: "Lora: The WiFi hotspot, if embedded in the phone functionality (such as some Android models), allows you to use your phone's existing data plan, so with those you are already paying the data packag..."That would be exactly what I would be looking for also. Thank you for the article on wifi tethering. Since I know nothing about this techy stuff, I'm sure it will be VERY informative for me. Thank you!
