Hi Lauren! Actually English is foreign language for me. I've learned it in school. They start to teach English here on third grade of elementary school.

The Finnish education is clearly superior to the British one. We only start learning another language at eleven, which is definitely too young. Anyway, welcome to the group, I forgot to say :D

Thank you so much! :)

message 404: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Hi all, I have been on Good Reads for awhile, but have been lurking on this site for a few days. I love the idea of the Austin Autumn as it will give me a chance to read some books by her that I haven't read yet.

Anyway, I obviously loved to read and discuss books. I am 28 and I work as an English teacher. I am teaching American Lit this year, which I am quite excited about.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

I am Anita I have been apart of the Goodreads site for awhile. I love to read !

Heather Thomas (breezee) | 2 comments Hello all! I'm Heather. I joined goodreads a long while ago, I am just now getting into it. I try to read as much as I can and I love adding books to my library. I love the way they look, the way they smell, the way they fill up space...of course I also love reading them, but that should go without saying.

message 407: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Vicki :) I'd love to be an English teacher- I'm sure you have oodles of books to recommend.

Anita, hi! Welcome to the group.

Hi Heather :) If you love books, you'll fit in perfectly here. I hope you have lots to recommend.

message 408: by barutiel (new)

barutiel Hello everyone !! :D
I have just joined this great group :) I don't know what to right about myself except from some ordinary things.... I like reading, writing, I like singing but I don't have too many fans, I like my hamster, although he don't enjoy my company, I like green tea, coffee with milk, talking with my friends, build castles on sand, taking weird photos, pizza with olives, pierogi with cheese, packing my backpag before a journey, traveling, sending postcards, returns, sunrises and sunsets, frogs, cats, dogs, collecting earings...
My name is Danusia and I am 23 years old (if my birth certificate is telling the true)
It's great to meet you all :D

message 409: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharon2020) Just joined as I ran across this group and would love to read some Austen this fall. It has been years and years so they will all be fresh and new for me.

Name is Sharon, 53, Texas.

message 410: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk I was pointed toward this group on the group page, I thought it looked interesting and decided to hop on in. I have been participating in a couple special interest groups and one general interest one, Book Haven, already. They're nice people over there, but more into recent vampire novels than I!

I read voraciously, and while my favorite genres are mystery and science fiction, I don't limit myself to those. The only books I don't really get along well with are romance novels. I've tried, and I just can't do it.

message 411: by [deleted user] (new)

Danusia, Sharon & stormhawk - hi! Welcome, welcome :D

Hi, Windfall, and welcome. Yeah, the two don't go so well together in theory... Anyway, I'm sure you'll find it worryingly addictive in no time. :)

Nancy | 4 comments Hi! Thank you for the open welcome to join your group. I am Nancy from Western South Dakota. I love the four seasons, esp Fall and a great snowfall. I love anything with nature! I love the sun,the lake and the beach. walks in the woods. being out in the crispness of Fall, or a soft snowfall. the beauty of a sunset. I like to grow flowers, camp, to sit by a good fire, and I especially like to read. I belong to a monthly book club which i enjoy very much. And I follow the selections of other book clubs or discussion groups. I'm always looking for a great enthusiastic recommendation for a book. And love to ask people, 'what the best last book you've read?" or "What's one of your all time favorites?" A friend in my book club turned me on to Good Reads in March and I've enjoyed it so much. And what a gift to introduce other friends. My Friends. Friends of Friends. and the vast network of 'friends' out there! Its like a great 'coffee break' to sit down and see what others are reading and saying. I've been keeping my eye open for a discussion group here, and last night when I read about your group, I jumped at the chance. I read a wide variety of genres, and especially enjoy the joy of shared reading and lively discussions with friends. Last but certainly not least, I like sports, almost any kind, especially soccer and most especially football. I am passionate about NFL football, my all-time favorite player, and the Vikings! Yea Farve! Go Vikings!

I don't have a lot of money so I buy ebooks from booksonboard.com because their prices are much better than the bookstores in case anyone was looking for better prices.

Judy Desetti (jdesetti) I see the last post was 10 months ago. Is this group still going? I am 54, live in Kansas, and am a school librarian. I read LOTS of children's books, YA, and a little adult fiction and nonfiction. I am hoping to find titles for my adult book group that are fun, relatively fast reads, and make for great discussions. My group meets once a month. Trying to get my reading group interested in goodreads but they are not that into social networking yet.

Will read some of the other posts to see what you read. I saw that you have a book a month which is about what I read in adult fiction, a book a month. For children's literature I read about a book a week, obviously more if it is for children under 4th grade.

message 421: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Judy. Actually, the last post was 2 days ago - mine! We read a range of stuff, but I generally just join in if it's something I want to read. Anyway, welcome.

Where in KS are you located? Igrew up in Fredonia, married in Wichita, Divorced in Marion, Graduated from Emporia State University in 1980. Are you near any of these. Have relatives all over the western half of the state. What would be a good read for my 3rd grade granddaughter? Most everyone here reads about the same type adult fiction/non-fiction that I do. That's why I like it. Stop by anytime.

I've just started a PhD and books are a welcome relief from the masses of academic reading I do on a daily basis!

I like to read all sorts really...although Jane Austen is definately a favourite of mine - I'm loving the Austen Autumn you are doing at the moment and have just dug out my copy of Emma to read this month!

Ankita Anand (anki_anand) Hi everyone. My name is Ankita and I'm in love with books. (I'm new to the site though) My favorite genre is fantasy. I'm currently reading The Golem's Eye by Jonathan Stroud.

Looking forward to discussing great books.:D

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) Hi everyone!

I am Kat and live in Alabama. I have two boys (20 and 18). I have loved to read since I was little, read everything that I could get my hands on. My favorite book is still "To Kill a Mockingbird" after reading it in middle school.

I read just about all genres, even thought Im not a fan of chick-lit or romance. I am in grad school right now working on my doctorate, so my "fun" reading has declined over the last 4 months, but I have a month off so I plan on catching up!!

Marian Thomas (marianlthomas) | 2 comments I reside in Atlanta with my husband of ten years and our spoiled but playful dog whom I like to at times refer to as "big-boned". He turns his nose up at anything that has "senior" or "Weight-Control" on the bag.

I enjoy reading books like "Drowning Ruth", writing and blogging and one day getting back into the art of drawing.

Hello! My name is Samantha and I live in Jacksonville, Arkansas. I have three children, all boys, and their ages are 4, 8, and 14. We also have two dogs and two cats.

I enjoy books in a lot of different genres, although I probably don't read much mystery or thrillers. I have never participated in book club so I am looking forward to the experience.

Nancy (Colorado) My name is Nancy and today is January 2, 2010. I just joined the group! I am a mom living in Colorado and am also a third grade teacher who loves to read good literature for adults and children. I belong to a school book group, too. I like the books that have been read so far, love getting new ideas for books, and think Goodreads is a great outlet to get/share book info! Happy New Year!

Teresa (teresail) | 8 comments Hi Nancy, Welcome!! I've been a part of this group for a few months now and love the book discussions, ideas and friendly people. I hope you enjoy it too! I belong to a school book group also, although we are moms who met when our children were in 3rd grade - now they are in high school and college! We still meet once a month for lunch and a book discussion. Happy New Year to you too!

Teresa (teresail) | 8 comments Oh, Nancy, I wanted to ask what your favorite book club read was in 2009? We had a good year, not too many stinkers - we really enjoyed Loving Frank (rollicking discussion for this one!), The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (one of my favorites), Firefly Lane, Rebecca and The Glass Castle. We are going to read The Sweet Life in Paris by David Lebovitz, Emma by Jane Austen and The Help by Kathryn Stockett for the first 3 months of 2010. So many good books!

We read many of the same books that you have listed here. Loving Frank and Guernsey of late. Since the summer we have read The Book Thief, Edgar Sawtelle, The Christmas Box and Tortilla Curtain (the author was here in October). Last, April we read Three Cups of tea and the author was here in September. I was able to go and see Greg Mortensen at CSU. I am a teacher so it it hard to get too much reading done during the school year.

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) Nancy, my son just finished reading the whole Diary of a Wimpy Kid series which he loved. Right now he's reading the Wiley and Grampa books, which he's also enjoying. Another favorite is Mr. Popper's Penguins and together we're reading The Phantom Tollbooth, which is a lot of fun for both of us. Do you know of any books that are like The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books? He was talking about reading those over again so I think he'd really like to find something similar.
