Caley Ann (Katie) (caleyann) Hi there!

I'm a compulsive and unapologetic reader from the Southwest US (Santa Fe, NM). Too many fav genres and authors to mention. Also love movies, music, running, and Argentine tango. Two cats and a husband round out the family unit. I look forward to reading the discussions!

message 107: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hi there. I'm Becky... I'm 26ish, live in northeastern PA, and am a book addict. I'm willing to read just about anything and everything, but I have a special love for apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction, classics, horror and YA. Stephen King is my favorite author. I like kittens. I'm currently listening to 30 Seconds to Mars.

K, I think that's enough random information for today. Nice to meet you all, and thanks for inviting me Emilee!

message 108: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 11 comments Haha, thanks Emilee,

So yeah.. I'm Sharon, 18, book junkie!
I enjoy just about everything and some of my favorites are The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Price of Salt, Kushiel's Dart, and The Count of Monte Cristo.

I'm currently working my way through It's All Right Now and The Second Sex.

Becky - what's your favorite Steven King book? I love his Firestarter and Shawshank Redemption

message 109: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Sharon, that's a difficult question. I can't narrow it down to just one, so here is my list:

The Stand
The Shining
The Talisman
The Dark Tower series (but especially The Drawing of the Three and Wolves of the Calla)
The Green Mile

I'm currently listening to the audiobook of Duma Key. It's really good!

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) Hello my name is Susan and I absolutely love to read. It's my one passion and obsession. I'm looking forward to finding out about new authors and books.

I run a bookclub at the local library. We are in our 9th year, with about 12 regular members. I would like to suggest to all of you our all time favorite book - Pope Joan. I also enjoyed reading the long book And Ladies of the Club. It's well worth the length.

Thanks for letting me become a new member.

Susan C

Sharon | 11 comments Becky - Yeah, it is... haha. The Green Mile is good. Actually, I've enjoyed the majority of his work... except Tommyknockers. That one just was not at all what I expected.

And hello Susan! Long books are so great.

They definitely are some of my favorites. IT by Stephen King was my favorite until I became a huge reader as an adult. I'd still put it down as one of my all time favorites though!

Dotty (dottyw) | 4 comments Hi, I am Dotty. Reading is my passion! And I can spend hours looking through book stores and libraries but sometimes need help deciding on what to read next. I have other passions: family, knitting, beading, knitting. Did I say knitting. My favorite thing to do is to knit while I read.

Right now, my favorite books are Life of Pi and A Thousand Splendid Suns but this is a ever changing list of favorites.

Beth A. (bethalm) Dotty,

How do you knit and read at the same time? I'm a relatively new knitter, and I've tried with no success.

message 131: by Dotty (new)

Dotty (dottyw) | 4 comments I prop the book up on the table and have a knitting project that does not require me to do more than just knit. I've been knitting for so long that my fingers just knit by themselves without my looking at them.

If you cannot knit yet without looking, just keep on knitting and one day you will be able to do it too.

I am a small town midwestern born and raised gal and recently married and relocated to an even smaller village in the mideast (Egypt)
I am a nurse by profession but currently a Music and English teacher, and local oddity.

Currently the books that are really occupying my attention are sciencetific journals, non-fiction books or foodie books (books about food or how it's grown, history ect)
but I will read anything I can get my hands on.

I read and knit too. If you find it tolerable try reading a pdf or online book, I find that the easiest way to knit and read.

message 135: by Dotty (new)

Dotty (dottyw) | 4 comments I am looking for an online book source. Can you point me in the right direction? Thank you.

Ya I go to gigapedia.net for fiction and magazines, but there are a lot of journals and text books too. You have to have an account with them to download but it's free

http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/20-best-...
has a list of websites but most of teh books are tech, I don't use it as often.

Goodreads has links to classical books to read online

Have you read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver? It's about spending (as a family) a whole year only eating things grown or butchered within I think a 100 mile radious.

That is on my to-read list. I read omnivores dilema in which he adresses that issue. It's interesting how much my own food philosophy has changed since I moved to this small village (I kill and clean my own chicken and fish, and buy the local farm produce)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) I'm a stay at home wife, due to a chronic illness. My husband is very compassionate and understanding about my limitations. We'll be married 15yrs this summer. Life really does go by fast.

I have no children but a wonderful dog.

I run a bookclub at my local library, where I used to work. We are in our 8th year and have about 14 regular members.

We recently moved into our new house that we built (it took only......5yrs) but I have my own office, with built in book shelves. They are almost overflowing.

I love to read either suspence or action filled suspence novels, no romance. The best part of being in the bookclub is that I have read books outside of my "box or comfort zone". Some of our favorites were And Ladies of the Club, The Counte of Monte Cristo (not abridged) and Pope Joan.

I'm always looking for a new author or book to read, so please feel free to make suggestions.

Susan C
