Right now we are reading aloud The Sisters Grimm (Volume 1)...Although there are many humor genre books out there..I am not sure that anything can touch the Wimpy Kid books right now. Poppy by Avi is another wonderful book that I LOVE to read aloud. Sounds as if your son is enjoying reading and that is GREAT!
Hi all, I just found this group as I saved my review of "The White Tiger" and thought I'd join and see if I could, as the title suggests, find some of the best books to read.I'm taking a break from the literary world for the moment and reading a James Patterson, pseudo made for TV, thriller.
Hello to all.
Ian
Hi, my name is Faythe. I write under the name F. Haywood Glenn. I have written several short stories and one novel (The Vance Legacy). I joined your group because I find that you list some of the books that I find interesting and some I plan to read in the near future.
Welcome Ian and Faythe! We're so glad you joined our group. Jump right in on our conversations. I think you'll find lots of good books and plenty of nice people here.
Ok, a little about me. I am Nita Mason, 4th year medical student in Florida. Married, no kids, a chocolate lab. LOVE to read....all genres. I had to give up leisurely reading for a good 3 years (textbooks only! yuck) and I have a lot of making up to do.... :)
Hi Nita! Welcome to the group. I agree with you about the textbook reading. That's the first thing I thought of when I graduated from college: more time for reading just for fun! I'm sure you'll find out about lots of good books in this group.
Welcome Ian, Faythe ans Nita. Hey, Faythe is my sister and (although we live in separate cities) we enjoy reading similar literature. GR has been a perfect fit for our discussions and selections.
Nice to be welcomed into a new group here on Goodreads. I set up a profile & then wondered "where everybody was," I seem to recall about a year and a half ago! Then I wrote somebody who finally told me about joining a group.Mysteries. I love a good mystery suspense, even a thriller. Anything culturally oriented I simply adore & that includes travel as part of a plot!
Of course, Goodreads has gotten me to expand my reading "reperatoire" by alot!
Book suggestion: May I recommended Rising Sun by Michael Crichton for my Feb 2010 book suggestion. Where do we make a book recommendation?
Teresa
Welcome, Fenixbird, to the group! Please make your suggestion for the February group read under the Monthly Reads section. Look for the "February 2010" thread and post your recommendation there. Be sure to include the title and the author.
Hello everyone. My name is Ashley and I am 24 years old. I reside in Walnut Creek ,California with family , 3 cats, 2 dachshunds, and a parakeet. I am a total bookaholic, I LOVE TO READ. My favorite genre is young adult fiction. Some of my favorite authors include: Jodi Picoult, Julie Anne Peters, Alex Sanchez, JK Rowling, Lauren Myracle, PC & Kristin Cast, etc.
Hello Ashley. Welcome to the group. I, too, have a fondness for YA fiction. You should check out the group Wild Things: YA Grown Up here on GR. I belong to it and it's a lot of fun.
Hi I'm Sara... I'm interested in all sorts of fiction, but especially drawn to historical fiction. I have 3 lofty goals: Reading the Pulitzer and Booker winning novels...and the 1001 books you must read before you die. But I'm currently reading The Help and Water for Elephants (neither one on the lists!).I'm a physician, and like Nita I love putting down my boring medical books and escaping!
Hi. I'm Karen. I am a mom/writer/editor and just recently released my first novel as an e-book on amazon, but, don't worry, I promise not to spam you. I am, first and foremost, a lover of fiction. I was an English major in college, so I tend toward classic and general lit, not much for genre fiction, except for the Harry Potter series, which I loved. Some of my favorite authors are Joyce Carol Oates, Jane Austen and Nick Hornby. I look forward to many interesting conversations. :)
Hi, my name is Jean and I LOVE to read. So much, my daughter bought me a Kindle for Mother's Day so I can read wherever I am. I was reading 3-5 books a week but since taking up knitting, I am reading much less. I am looking forward to finding some new authors and finding new directions in my reading. I currently read just fiction, but would like to find some interesting non-fiction finds, mainly biograhpies.
Hello all! I'm Renée and I'm an academic librarian. :) I live in the Midwest of the U.S.A., I have two dogs (Shelties), and I'm an artist and a musician.I like a variety of books, but I seem to gravitate to books that have some mystery, adventure, or psychological depth to them. I'm not a big fan of YA literature and I don't like romance/love stories.
I also love reading memoirs/biographies and American history books (especially Civil War era and Presidential history).
My favorite books are Moby Dick, Jane Eyre, Poisonwood Bible, The Road, The Book Thief, Silas Marner, Siddhartha, Lord of the Rings...just to name a few. :D
Hi! I'm Heather and I love to read...Although I'll admit its been awhile since I've actually sat down and read anything ...the past 4 years have been kind of dark for me. But I'm getting back on track and realized that I still love to read! And this site and the other group I'm in are awesome and now I don't have to worry about what to read next! hehe I love looking at other people's lists to see what they have read or will read...so I'll never run out of ideas!I'm married to a wonderful hubby; although we are having our first major down/agrument but we're good now :). I'm also going to school, going to major in pyschology and maybe minor in social work or publishing/english. Still haven't decided. :)
Hey guys! My name is Simon and I currently reside in Honolulu, Hawaii. I'm a computer enthusiast. I spend a lot of time working with computers and networking in general. Hence, I read a lot of computer and technology books. However, I also spend a lot of time reading all kinds of different literature books. I'm down to read all the different kinds of books out there and isn't really bias towards a particular subject. The reason I joined this website is due to how I'm pretty much the only person in my network of friends who enjoys reading! Yes, sad indeed but that's how it is. Therefore, I'm turning over to the Internet and joined GoodReads. This seems like a nice place to discuss books and whatnot so hopefully I'll meet a lot of people in here with the same interest as me! Hope to see you guys around!
