Lisarenee | 7659 comments Questions for Chapter 42 (The King's Prize) - Chapter 45 (The Blind Girl)

129) We now know Stannis has Asha and the group is not faring so well with the cold weather. I found it interesting that Asha's father told her to yield if she couldn't win. Seems like most say to fight to the finish. I think for a woman, however, it depends on who you're surrendering to. Could be a fate worse than death.

130) Seems like Melisandre has a very loyal following. What will she do if Stannis dies? Will her loyalty lie with Aegon?

131) Alyson Mormont (the She-Bear) is an interesting character. So they murdered woman (Alyson's sister Dacey is an example) too at the Red Wedding. I didn't know that. Are you surprised?

132) What do you make of them wanting to make a sacrifice of someone?

133) Why does Stannis wish to save Arya?

134) Daario was quite persistent that she marry him. Cut her off cold when she went through with the wedding. Interesting. Could this lead to a future conflict?

135) Quenten has finally made it to Dany. I liked the Frog prince reference. Do you think Dany should have taken his proposal more serious?

136) Sounds like the life of Royalty is not all it's cracked up to be. Seems a lot of unhappy matches are made.

137) Is Queen Selyse Stannis' wife? I couldn't find her in the back?

138) What do you make of all the comments about the giant? Will he play a vital role later?

139) From the information we learn in Jon's chapter it looks like Cersei made a bad move. He said crowns change heads when they don't repay their debt to the Bank of Braavos. Interesting...

140) Was Jon smart to go into debt? Did he have a better choice?

141) So the girl on the dying horse was not Arya. What do you make of this? What the heck is GRRM plotting now?

142) Finally we find out more about Arya. Looks like she ended up with her sight back at the end.

143) Seems like she mind melded with the cat to see who was talking. Interesting development. Could this be what they were waiting for her to do when they took away her sight? After hearing what they were teaching her do you feel better about the loss of sight?

144) All those wildlings who went to Hardhome becoming slaves. How awful. Why did the woods witch send them there?

145) Why did the "kindly man" beat Arya? Didn't seem like he did a whole lot of damage, but I just didn't get it.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Lisa Kay Answers Lisarenee’s Questions for Chapter 42 (The King's Prize) - Chapter 45 (The Blind Girl)

Could be. Expecially in GRRM’s world. What is the deal with Ser Justin’s suit? I thought Asha was married to Erik Anvilbreaker – precisely because her Uncle Euron didn’t want her to align with any supporters.

130) Seems like Melisandre has a very loyal following. What will she do if Stannis dies? Will her loyalty lie with Aegon?
Good question. I’m guessing Aegon?

131) Alyson Mormont (the She-Bear) is an interesting character. So they murdered woman (Alyson's sister Dacey is an example) too at the Red Wedding. I didn't know that. Are you surprised?
I didn’t know that either. The Red Wedding was a snafubar all around. Too many people were sideline casualties.

132) What do you make of them wanting to make a sacrifice of someone?
Shows the dark side of the North. Just who do they want to sacrifice?

133) Why does Stannis wish to save Arya?
Because he believes in the rights of inheritance?

134) Daario was quite persistent that she marry him. Cut her off cold when she went through with the wedding. Interesting. Could this lead to a future conflict?
Oh yeah! Big time, I think.

135) Quenten has finally made it to Dany. I liked the Frog prince reference. Do you think Dany should have taken his proposal more serious?
Yes, I do. However, the wedding was imminent; she really didn’t have time to contemplate the offer.

136) Sounds like the life of Royalty is not all it's cracked up to be. Seems a lot of unhappy matches are made.
Very true. I couldn’t believe Dany went through with the wedding!! I’m shocked.

137) Is Queen Selyse Stannis' wife? I couldn't find her in the back?
From Wiki Ice:
Selyse Florent is the wife of Lord Stannis Baratheon. She became his queen after Stannis claimed the Iron Throne. Selyse is a fervent worshiper of R'hllor and a supporter of Melisandre. Within the ranks of those who follow Lord Stannis who believe in R'hllor are named Queen's Men after Selyse.
138) What do you make of all the comments about the giant? Will he play a vital role later?
Maybe. It could have just been to show the prejudice of Stannis’ people. Alys Karstark,is a pissant with hairy ears.

139) From the information we learn in Jon's chapter it looks like Cersei made a bad move. He said crowns change heads when they don't repay their debt to the Bank of Braavos. Interesting...
Very! Don’t get on the bad side of the people with the money!

140) Was Jon smart to go into debt? Did he have a better choice?
I think Jon Snow didn’t have much choice but to treaty with Tycho Naheris, the Braavosi banker; I think it was a smart move. He needed the three ships and the ability to get through the winter.

141) So the girl on the dying horse was not Arya. What do you make of this? What the heck is GRRM plotting now?
Beats the poo out of me. I got lost with all Alys Karstark’s family too – her uncles, her betrothed, and who is the rightful heir. Geez. I didn’t even go to Wiki Ice to try and figure it out. Maybe another day. All I know, is Jon Snow may get in trouble for helping her out; she is not really the Night Watch’s business and she carries info that will be of help to Stannis…

142) Finally we find out more about Arya. Looks like she ended up with her sight back at the end.
Yay! An Arya chapter! Thought I really didn't like her that much in it. Where is her compassion?

143) Seems like she mind melded with the cat to see who was talking. Interesting development. Could this be what they were waiting for her to do when they took away her sight? After hearing what they were teaching her do you feel better about the loss of sight?
I don’t know if they know anything about it. Isn’t she keeping it a secret from the “kindly man?” Was she even consciously aware that she was warging?

144) All those wildlings who went to Hardhome becoming slaves. How awful. Why did the woods witch send them there?
Don’t know. Oh, wait. Just saw this on Wiki Ice. Do you want to know? (view spoiler)

Yes, Lisarenee, it is hard to listen to this story sometimes... especially when I don't have an appendix. I get a little sick of going to Wiki Ice, as I ran across a spoiler I didn't want...spoiled, LOL. I got lost in a trace and had to re-listen to somethings... and I really didn't want to re-listen to anything that has to do with Reek/Theon!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapter 46 (A Ghost in Winterfell) – Chapter 50 (Daenerys)

146) Who was the dead guy frozen in the snow? (I don’t want to re-listen to this chapter… ) Should we know? Was it really a drunkard’s accident? Were there any clues as to his identity? What about Yellow Dick’s death? Geez, it is not like they are not all a bunch of murderers.

147) Theon is contemplating suicide again. Will he try?

148) Theon thought he saw a flash of fear in Roose Bolton’s eyes? If he is growing worried they must all be in dire straits?

149) Was the godswood scene spooky? I think that was really Bran, right?

150) What was all that drumming? Who is Abel's washerwomen, really? Why are all these chapters ending in cliffhangers.

151) Jorah Mormont is a broken man after hearing of Dany’s marriage. Is that why Tyrion “spared” his life – if that is what he did – and had the Yunkish lord, Yezzan, purchase him?

152) Sweet is a hermaphrodite? GRRM puts everything and the kitchen sink in this one. What is the strange disease Yezzan is dying from?

153) What was Tyrion’s strategy with the cyvasse game against Brown Ben Plumm?

154) I can’t believe I’m excited about a Jamie chapter. But it is the only one in the book, right? Unless his story continues under an assumed name like some of the other chapters.

155) Looks like Jaime turned into quite a diplomat. I’m sorry, but the names Bracken and Blackwood were too similar for me. I couldn’t keep the daughter of Blackwood as a hostage and the reasoning straight. Can someone help me?

156) Is Brienne of Tarth setting Jaime up? We’ve seen so many characters become failures in this book and the last, yet here is Jaime, growing, maturing, learning. Does this mean imminent death in GRRM’s world?

157) What did you think of the wedding between Alys Karstark and Sigorn, Magnar of Thenn (whose father died at Castle Black). And the new House of Thenn? ('Cause that’s what we needed, another House to keep track of. See, I really shouldn’t be posting these questions, LOL!)

158) Where are Bowen Marsh, Othell Yarwick and Chayle when they weren’t at the wedding? That doesn’t bode well, does it?

159) Selyse doesn’t want Satin, a former whore, accompany her to the feast. Prejudice much? A little foreshadowing here, right? Is Jon Snow paying attention?

160) I was surprised Milisandre told Jon Snow she always sees him in the flames, surrounded by skulls and daggers when he asks her about Stannis – yet she is talking about Axor Ahai reborn? Huh? Which way is she leaning here?

161) Poor Cregan Karstark (**note sarcasm here**) is between a rock and a hard place. What will he choose, taking the black or hanging by Stannis?

162) Whoa! They are having a slave market right outside the wedding? I don’t blame Dany for being pissed, but isn’t she a little late on the uptake? Am I the only one screaming inside over her marriage to Hizdahr? Is she blind?

163) Daario is one of the hostages?

164) Well, looks like Barristan only has thoughts of Dany in King’s Landing. Is he of any used to her now?

165) Has Dany learned her less from the sellsword, Brown Ben Plumm?

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1193 comments Questions for Chapter 42 (The King's Prize) - Chapter 45 (The Blind Girl)

True, it could be very bad for her. I think that Stannis is honorable in his hostage-taking, quite unlike Ramsay who promises mercy but kills them anyway. Many before Asha have yielded and been justly rewarded. I am not worried about Stannis harming her.

130) Seems like Melisandre has a very loyal following. What will she do if Stannis dies? Will her loyalty lie with Aegon? I get the feeling she would raise up Jon Snow as the King.

131) Alyson Mormont (the She-Bear) is an interesting character. So they murdered woman (Alyson's sister Dacey is an example) too at the Red Wedding. I didn't know that. Are you surprised? No, not surprising. That was a brutal event. They had no problem "killing" Catelyn.

132) What do you make of them wanting to make a sacrifice of someone? Superstitious and desperate.

133) Why does Stannis wish to save Arya? Maybe because Ned had been so loyal to his brother.

134) Daario was quite persistent that she marry him. Cut her off cold when she went through with the wedding. Interesting. Could this lead to a future conflict? I think he is bitter, but I have a hard time seeing him want to hurt Dany.

135) Quenten has finally made it to Dany. I liked the Frog prince reference. Do you think Dany should have taken his proposal more serious? I liked it too. This isn't the Dany I thought I knew. I thought she really should consider the proposal, at least. She thinks once she marries that Ghis guy then all her troubles are over. I fear that is not the case.

136) Sounds like the life of Royalty is not all it's cracked up to be. Seems a lot of unhappy matches are made. Oh, absolutely.

137) Is Queen Selyse Stannis' wife? I couldn't find her in the back? Yes, I checked the Appendix in book 2. She is there as his wife.

138) What do you make of all the comments about the giant? Will he play a vital role later? Do you mean Wun Wun or the one that Val is looking for? I think both could play a role, otherwise why spend so much time talking about them?

139) From the information we learn in Jon's chapter it looks like Cersei made a bad move. He said crowns change heads when they don't repay their debt to the Bank of Braavos. Interesting... I wonder if the bankers had a hand in taking her prisoner at the end of Book 4?

140) Was Jon smart to go into debt? Did he have a better choice? If the choice is debt or death, then debt it will have to be.

141) So the girl on the dying horse was not Arya. What do you make of this? What the heck is GRRM plotting now? Don't know, but it's frustrating.

142) Finally we find out more about Arya. Looks like she ended up with her sight back at the end. That's the impression I got, too.

143) Seems like she mind melded with the cat to see who was talking. Interesting development. Could this be what they were waiting for her to do when they took away her sight? After hearing what they were teaching her do you feel better about the loss of sight? A little, but I still don't like the entire Arya situation.

144) All those wildlings who went to Hardhome becoming slaves. How awful. Why did the woods witch send them there? Maybe she didn't know what would happen.

145) Why did the "kindly man" beat Arya? Didn't seem like he did a whole lot of damage, but I just didn't get it. He was teaching her, I guess.

I think it didn't really matter who the dead guy in the snow was. I think it was just to show a trend of people dying.

147) Theon is contemplating suicide again. Will he try?

I don't think he'll need to. I think his days are numbered.

148) Theon thought he saw a flash of fear in Roose Bolton’s eyes? If he is growing worried they must all be in dire straits?

I think they are worried. They don't know who's doing the killing and there are so many possibilities.

149) Was the godswood scene spooky? I think that was really Bran, right?

I think so too. Maybe we should have ear marked the passage where he became one with the tree. Maybe he can see the future too?

150) What was all that drumming? Who is Abel's washerwomen, really? Why are all these chapters ending in cliffhangers.

No idea, but I'm guessing they're assassins.

151) Jorah Mormont is a broken man after hearing of Dany’s marriage. Is that why Tyrion “spared” his life – if that is what he did – and had the Yunkish lord, Yezzan, purchase him?

I don't think so. He knew the man would die if he went with the other buyer so he decided to have pity on him. Tyrion tends to surprise us as does Jaime considering who their father was.

152) Sweet is a hermaphrodite? GRRM puts everything and the kitchen sink in this one. What is the strange disease Yezzan is dying from?

Remember Tyrion knew about his new owner when he stayed at the one guys house. Allyrio or something. They talked of someone owning a hermaphrodite and other curiosities. Tyrion knows exactly what he's in for.

153) What was Tyrion’s strategy with the cyvasse game against Brown Ben Plumm?

To win and gain the favor of his owner.

154) I can’t believe I’m excited about a Jamie chapter. But it is the only one in the book, right? Unless his story continues under an assumed name like some of the other chapters.

I'm wondering if he'll end up back with Cersei and that might be why there are no more Jaime chapters. Brienne is back?

155) Looks like Jaime turned into quite a diplomat. I’m sorry, but the names Bracken and Blackwood were too similar for me. I couldn’t keep the daughter of Blackwood as a hostage and the reasoning straight. Can someone help me?

Blackwood is the one with the 7 year old daughter that needs to abjure his alliance with the Tully's and Starks. He'd the one Jaime negotiates what will be sacrificed. Bracken is the guy who at some point switched sides asking for lands. It's his daughter that will need to be given to King's Landing.

156) Is Brienne of Tarth setting Jaime up? We’ve seen so many characters become failures in this book and the last, yet here is Jaime, growing, maturing, learning. Does this mean imminent death in GRRM’s world?

I think she is. Wasn't that what she was asked to do? Will she be able to carry it out?

157) What did you think of the wedding between Alys Karstark and Sigorn, Magnar of Thenn (whose father died at Castle Black). And the new House of Thenn? ('Cause that’s what we needed, another House to keep track of. See, I really shouldn’t be posting these questions, LOL!)

I was thinking WTH? Where did that come from.

158) Where are Bowen Marsh, Othell Yarwick and Chayle when they weren’t at the wedding? That doesn’t bode well, does it?

Definitely makes you wonder.

159) Selyse doesn’t want Satin, a former whore, accompany her to the feast. Prejudice much? A little foreshadowing here, right? Is Jon Snow paying attention?

Foreshadowing???? What are you thinking? She'll be prejudice against Jon because he's a bastard?

160) I was surprised Milisandre told Jon Snow she always sees him in the flames, surrounded by skulls and daggers when he asks her about Stannis – yet she is talking about Axor Ahai reborn? Huh? Which way is she leaning here?

Don't have a clue.

161) Poor Cregan Karstark (**note sarcasm here**) is between a rock and a hard place. What will he choose, taking the black or hanging by Stannis?

Don't know.

162) Whoa! They are having a slave market right outside the wedding? I don’t blame Dany for being pissed, but isn’t she a little late on the uptake? Am I the only one screaming inside over her marriage to Hizdahr? Is she blind?

I think she was tired of all the pressure put on her. She's really young. I was trying to calculate her age now. Is she fifteen or sixteen?

163) Daario is one of the hostages?

I don't think so.

164) Well, looks like Barristan only has thoughts of Dany in King’s Landing. Is he of any used to her now?

Time will tell or rather GRRM will.

165) Has Dany learned her less from the sellsword, Brown Ben Plumm?

Probably not.

#129 – I think Stannis is honorable up to a point. He is not going to kill prisoners in “mass” – but look what he did to Rattleshirt/Mance when he was a prisoner.

#130 – Yeah, but wait. She’s wishy-washy, I think.

#131 – Good point!

#133 – I think he wants to use her entitlement to Winterfell. He might treat her kinder, but she would still be a political pawn.

#134 – Oh, I have no problem with that. He may be taking it out on others right now, but he could turn on her.

#135 – I agree. She should have thought about the proposal more.

#139 – I think you might be right about the bankers plotting against Cersei.

#142 – She did? You both think this… hmmmm. Okay, I’ll go with it.

#143 – I don’t like what is happening with Arya either.

#146 & 148 – Okay. GTK. Seems like there have a murderer amongst the murderers. Like a haunted castle.

#147 – Really? You think Theon’s days are number? I think GRRM is enjoying his lot in life too much.

#149 – Yes! I would have liked to re-listen to the part where Bran was “one” with the tree.

#151 – At least Tyrion still has a spark of compassion.

#152 – Vaguely. LOL!

#155 – Brienne has a chapter?

#155 – Thanks!

#156 – I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I hope she can’t carry it out. Talk about being pulled apart by two oaths.

#157 – LOL! Good, glad I wasn’t the only one saying “WTH?”

#159 – Prejudice b/c JS is a bastard – certainly. But I was thinking of Satin. And not just Queen Selyse, but everyone else who is not a wilding. Maybe “foreshadowing” is the wrong word to use here, but Jon Snow lived with the wildings and got to know them. Others are much, much less tolerant of them – prejudice. I think that his not seeing this and understanding this and trying to work on a way to “be a bridge” between the two cultures is going to be his downfall.

#160 – LMAO! Me either! I don’t know which way Milisandre is leaning.

#162 – I’m not sure of her age now. Maybe Dany is 15?

#164 – LOL!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Lisa Kay’s Finishes up Questions for Chapters 51 & 52

Okay, these are going to be short and sweet.

166) Now Little Walder has been murdered?!? Man-oh-man! If I was any one of them, I would seriously get the hell out of there! For more than one reason; the killer is freaking everyone out. The Freys and Manderlys are at each other’s throats (which doesn’t bother me a bit). Comments?

167) Now we know Abel’s plans. Why the chapter name change? Is Reek gone for good? Oh, I forgot; I’m reading a GRRM book. You can’t count on anyone really being gone. Well, Reek may be gone for now, but I don’t know that Theon will ever be the same. Jeyne certainly won’t. Comments?

168) Wow! How cool was (view spoiler)

169) Back track questions: Why did Hizdahr want Dany to eat the honeyed locusts? Were they poisoned? What about dwarves? They were Tyrion & Penney, right? Good thing Dany didn’t want them eaten by lions!

I think it was just some random guard...no one important. Serial killers afoot?

147) Theon is contemplating suicide again. Will he try? I think if it came down to that or being flayed by Ramsay, he would choose to kill himself.

148) Theon thought he saw a flash of fear in Roose Bolton’s eyes? If he is growing worried they must all be in dire straits? True.

149) Was the godswood scene spooky? I think that was really Bran, right? Yes, I think so too!

150) What was all that drumming? Who is Abel's washerwomen, really? Why are all these chapters ending in cliffhangers. I thought the drumming was Stannis's troops on the move. I think the chapters ending in cliffhangers are designed to make us keep reading. I must admit that I have been liking the book better lately.

151) Jorah Mormont is a broken man after hearing of Dany’s marriage. Is that why Tyrion “spared” his life – if that is what he did – and had the Yunkish lord, Yezzan, purchase him? Again, I think this speaks to Tyrion's true character. He is a good person deep down inside (despite being a murderer HA!). Also, He may believe that Jorah can still help him, somehow.

152) Sweet is a hermaphrodite? GRRM puts everything and the kitchen sink in this one. What is the strange disease Yezzan is dying from? I wonder if it's some sort of cancer.

153) What was Tyrion’s strategy with the cyvasse game against Brown Ben Plumm? Prove his usefulness to his new master?

154) I can’t believe I’m excited about a Jamie chapter. But it is the only one in the book, right? Unless his story continues under an assumed name like some of the other chapters. Oh my gosh, I was too! I was so happy to see Jaime again (weird though that may be).

155) Looks like Jaime turned into quite a diplomat. I’m sorry, but the names Bracken and Blackwood were too similar for me. I couldn’t keep the daughter of Blackwood as a hostage and the reasoning straight. Can someone help me? I would research this if I had more time. Unfortunately I don't right now. I'm not too sure if this is important to the story.

156) Is Brienne of Tarth setting Jaime up? We’ve seen so many characters become failures in this book and the last, yet here is Jaime, growing, maturing, learning. Does this mean imminent death in GRRM’s world? Where in the heck did she come from? When we last saw her she was being hanged. You may be right about a trap (set by Catelyn)

157) What did you think of the wedding between Alys Karstark and Sigorn, Magnar of Thenn (whose father died at Castle Black). And the new House of Thenn? ('Cause that’s what we needed, another House to keep track of. See, I really shouldn’t be posting these questions, LOL!) You crack me up! I am trying to just go with the flow and not let it bother me if I don't follow what's going on. I did think it's interesting that we've had 3 weddings in this book so far ("Arya", Alys, Dany). I wonder if there's a significance?

158) Where are Bowen Marsh, Othell Yarwick and Chayle when they weren’t at the wedding? That doesn’t bode well, does it? Nope.

159) Selyse doesn’t want Satin, a former whore, accompany her to the feast. Prejudice much? A little foreshadowing here, right? Is Jon Snow paying attention? I think he is.

160) I was surprised Milisandre told Jon Snow she always sees him in the flames, surrounded by skulls and daggers when he asks her about Stannis – yet she is talking about Axor Ahai reborn? Huh? Which way is she leaning here? I think Jon Snow is Axor Ahai reborn, not Stannis.

161) Poor Cregan Karstark (**note sarcasm here**) is between a rock and a hard place. What will he choose, taking the black or hanging by Stannis? Guess he will have to take the black.

162) Whoa! They are having a slave market right outside the wedding? I don’t blame Dany for being pissed, but isn’t she a little late on the uptake? Am I the only one screaming inside over her marriage to Hizdahr? Is she blind? Yes, for a while I thought Dany was getting wiser but now she's acting like a dumb teenager. I can't believe she married that guy. She is way too trusting. Doesn't make sense at all.

163) Daario is one of the hostages? ???

164) Well, looks like Barristan only has thoughts of Dany in King’s Landing. Is he of any used to her now? Yes, I think he can still help her.

165) Has Dany learned her less from the sellsword, Brown Ben Plumm? Doubtful.

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1193 comments Lisa Kay’s Finishes up Questions for Chapters 51 & 52

Okay, these are going to be short and sweet.

168) Now Little Walder has been murdered?!? Man-oh-man! If I was any one of them, I would seriously get the hell out of there! For more than one reason; the killer is freaking everyone out. The Freys and Manderlys are at each other’s throats (which doesn’t bother me a bit). Comments?
A house divided cannot stand, so I think they are going to be their own undoing. Who needs Stannis?

167) Now we know Abel’s plans. Why the chapter name change? Is Reek gone for good? Oh, I forgot; I’m reading a GRRM book. You can’t count on anyone really be gone. Well, Reek may be gone for now, but I don’t know that Theon will ever be the same. Jeyne certainly won’t. Comments? I thought this was a tense chapter. I was so hoping they would escape. When Holly got shot I had visions of Theon and Jayned getting flayed together in the dungeon **shudder**. I hope, hope, hope they escape!!!

168) Wow! How cool was (view spoiler)[ that scene with Drogon and Dany?! Think she’ll return to Meereen? Think she’ll be back to the old Dany now? Or maybe the new and improved Dany. Yes, extremely cool. I have been happy that the book has gotten more exciting (albeit gross). Loved seeing Dany fly on her Dragon! I kept expecting Tyrion to pop up and help with Drogon. I hope he finds out how Dany saved him and Penny from certain death.

169) Back track questions: Why did Hizdahr want Dany to eat the honeyed locusts? Were they poisoned? What about dwarves? They were Tyrion & Penney, right? Good thing Dany didn’t want them eaten by lions! I did think they were poisoned because Belwas kept puking

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1193 comments Just a comment here.
I think this series would be just fine without the paranormal aspects (wargs, wights, Melisandre's sorcery).
I do like the dragons, though.

This series has some fascinating characters and interesting plots.

Sometimes I feel the paranormal events get in the way of plot and characterization. Just my opinion!

#149 – Ditto! It was Bran.

#150 – The drumming could be Stannis… but he is three days away. (It was three, right?) Yeah, the book is a little better… not as much repetition, but still way to sadistic for me.

#151 – LOL! I hear you. I like Tyrion too; not so much in this book, but then most all my fav characters are off in this book.

#154 – Mind Meld. ☺

#155 – Don’t bother researching… I think I’m clearer on it now (plus, I went to Wiki Ice eventually…)

#156 – Yes, Brienne was being hanged, but she yelled out some word (that has YET to be revealed). So, we know she’s safe… but is she going to betray Jaime?

#157 – LOL! I’m glad I made you laugh. ☺ I hadn’t thought about the weddings… good point. I don’t think GRRM likes weddings.

#160 – Me too! (So that must mean he isn’t, LOL!)

#161 – If Cregan Karstark is smart, he will take the Black! I don’t know if that is good for the Night’s Watch or not, though.

#162 – I’m still upset she really married him! And slept with him! WTF?

#164 –I hope Barristan still has some ability to help her. He seemed a little lost politically… and he really only has eyes on Kings Landing.

#166 (Sorry, got the number mixed up when I moved the question around!)
“A house divided…” Very true! Maybe it is a plot from someone outside who infiltrated the castle?

#167 – Yes, a very tense chapter!

#168 – Loved that part; almost made reading all of AFFC and most of this one worthwhile.

#169 – Oh, yeah! I think you are right.

#149 - At some point (don't know when!) I want to go back to Bran's chapter where he's watching out of the weirwood to see if he sees Theon.
#150 - Good point about Stannis being far away, not to mention snowbound (or is that what we are supposed to think??)
#156 - Whatever happens with Brienne, it better happen in the next 300 pages or else we won't find out until 2014 (at the rate GRRM writes)!!
#157 - Maybe GRRM just wants us to have white knuckles during all the wedding scenes.
#160 - I still like to think that Jon Snow is actually the child of Rhaegar and Lyanne (is that right? Ned's sister?)

Oh, oh, oh.....Melisandre says Azor Ahai will be reborn at Dragonstone. Do you recall in Chapter 49 when Jon mentions that Stannis was not born at Dragonstone but at Storm's End? Where was Jon Snow born? If it was Dragonstone then this is VERY interesting!

#162 - Dany has become quite the *ahem* busy one.

#149 - Really. I can see why people do re-reads of this series. It would make it interesting to see the hidden clues when you know what's going on! LOL!

#156 - I think we are going to be waiting for 2014 or later!

#158 - Yes, Lyanna was Rhaegar's love interest and Ned's sister.

I just checked Wiki Ice on Jon Snow and his birthplace is unknown! Never noticed that before. Very interesting.

170) Tormund seems, if not happy, then alright with the compromise/treaty with Jon Snow. Will he be a problem in the future? Or will all the trouble come from the Night’s Watch?

171) WTH! How serious was Jon Snow about bedding Val? And she was all in white (like Ghost) and with him?

172) Whoa! Val’s lack of sympathy toward Shireen because of her having Greyscale was a big surprise. (And the wildings kill their children even if they survive it!) Seems like “intolerance” isn’t only one-sided. Will Commander Snow ever get these two very different cultures to blend?

173) Uh, oh! Bowen Marsh used the “T” word! (view spoiler) Is Jon Snow’s feigned desertion going to come back to haunt him?

174) Cersei! Wow, I knew we were going to get her POV chapter, but to tell the truth, I forgot all about it. Anywayz… no Jaime to the rescue (he has his own problems), but thank goodness for her decent and forgiving Uncle Kevan! I almost feel sorry for her, but man-oh-man did she make a mess; think he can clean it up? Comments on Cersei’s confession and her half-truths/half-lies?

175) We learn that Princess Myrcella has lost an ear. (And Cersei is still blaming Tyrion!) Do you think that is the extent of Myrcella’s injuries?

176) Mace Tyrell is coming into a lot of power; just what he wanted. Will it be enough to gain his daughter’s, Queen Margaery’s, freedom?

177) And what was that cryptic message for Lord Qyburn that “the time has come” now that there is a vacancy in the Kingsguard??

178) Ser Barristan Selmy is another person with a mess to clean up -- and the Unsullied aren't cooperating. Did he have any other choice but to meet with Shavepate/Skahaz mo Kandaq? Is Shavepate telling him the truth about Hizdahr being behind the plot to kill Dany? Will Grey Worm, Commander of Daenery’s Unsullied, agree to work with Ser Barristan?

179) Boy, I’ve been so lost in this series that when I “get one” - I’m ecstatic. I just knew Moqorro was going to survive the shipwreck of the Selaesori Qhoran headed for Qarth (with Tyrion & Jorah Mormont on board). Now I just need to know if he caused the storm and shipwreck. I mean, why get on the ship if he could see into the flames? With this in mind, was Victarion Greyjoy wise to kill his maester and throw his body overboard for “favorable winds”? I don’t get the impression this dude (Victarion) is very smart.

170) Tormund seems, if not happy, then alright with the compromise/treaty with Jon Snow. Will he be a problem in the future? Or will all the trouble come from the Night’s Watch?
I think the Night's Watch will have the most trouble with taking care of those they have always fought with.

171) WTH! How serious was Jon Snow about bedding Val? And she was all in white (like Ghost) and with him? I don't think he would, given his position now.

172) Whoa! Val’s lack of sympathy toward Shireen because of her having Greyscale was a big surprise. (And the wildings kill their children even if they survive it!) Seems like “intolerance” isn’t only one-sided. Will Commander Snow ever get these two very different cultures to blend? Yes, that was surprising and sad, too. Jon has his work cut out for him.

173) Uh, oh! Bowen Marsh used the “T” word! (view spoiler)[Treason! Is Jon Snow’s feigned desertion going to come back to haunt him? Probably.

Guess Cersei should have confessed a lot sooner. What is she going to do with Qyburn? Can he change faces like the man who killed for Arya (can't remember his name)?

175) We learn that Princess Myrcella has lost an ear. (And Cersei is still blaming Tyrion!) Do you think that is the extent of Myrcella’s injuries? Her face is scarred too.

176) Mace Tyrell is coming into a lot of power; just what he wanted. Will it be enough to gain his daughter’s, Queen Margaery’s, freedom? Maybe.

177) And what was that cryptic message for Lord Qyburn that “the time has come” now that there is a vacancy in the Kingsguard?? I don't know...can he change faces like the Braavosi man who killed for Arya, become one of the Kingsguard, and be Cersei's champion?

178) Ser Barristan Selmy is another person with a mess to clean up -- and the Unsullied aren't cooperating. Did he have any other choice but to meet with Shavepate/Skahaz mo Kandaq? Is Shavepate telling him the truth about Hizdahr being behind the plot to kill Dany? Will Grey Worm, Commander of Daenery’s Unsullied, agree to work with Ser Barristan? I have never trusted Hizdahr, so I do think that Shavepate is telling the truth. Grey Worm may work with Selmy based on the fact that Dany trusted him so much.

179) Boy, I’ve been so lost in this series that when I “get one” - I’m ecstatic. You understood this much better than I did. Why would he cause the shipwreck when the odds of surviving were so stacked against him? Then again, if he actually has powers, then I guess that would make more sense. I think Victarion is on a fool's mission if he thinks Dany is going to marry him.

#171 – So, it was just a verbal “quickie”?

#174 – Are you talking of Arya’s “dance” instructor, Syrio? Or Jaqen H'ghar -- the assumed identity of a Faceless Man of Braavos. Who, by the way, I always suspected as being the same person, but what do I know? LOL! I’m probably miles off on this one.

#175 – That is the impression I got from AffC, but Kevan didn’t say that, did he? Well, the info was probably not accurate – in keeping with Westeros gossip.

#177 – Oh, this time I think you do mean Jaqen H'ghar. But, no, I don’t think Lord Qyburn has the balls for that… he is just a mad, sadistic, scientist. He’s not a fighter; he only likes to torture people when they are chained up and can't fight back.

#178 – I loathe Hizdahr, so I agree with you… but GRRM likes to twist things around so...

#179 – I got suspicious when Tyrion found Moqorro out on deck chanting/ranting in the storm. Also, I figure he has to be pretty powerful if he could survive the shipwreck of what? Ten to fourteen days? (Can’t remember the number.)

I don't know.

171) WTH! How serious was Jon Snow about bedding Val? And she was all in white (like Ghost) and with him?

I think he's not opposed to it, but he'll keep a cap on his desires.

I read this differently. What if she's right. What if the greyscale is just dormant? What would happen if it became active again? Doesn't seem likely...but what if?

173) Uh, oh! Bowen Marsh used the “T” word! (view spoiler) Is Jon Snow’s feigned desertion going to come back to haunt him?

Probably.

Cersei is not going to have fun.

175) We learn that Princess Myrcella has lost an ear. (And Cersei is still blaming Tyrion!) Do you think that is the extent of Myrcella’s injuries?

Nope. I think she's got more injuries than just a lost ear. Didn't they say she had a facial scar that went deep and wouldn't be able to be properly fixed?

176) Mace Tyrell is coming into a lot of power; just what he wanted. Will it be enough to gain his daughter’s, Queen Margaery’s, freedom?

Don't know.

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Questions for Chapter 57 (Tyrion) - Chapter 60 (The Spurned Suitor)

180) Do you think Tyrion was smart to escape while the escaping was good? Do you think anyone will get sick? I'm guessing Penny because I can't see how she'd be useful to the story anymore.

181) Do you think it was wise to go to Brown Ben Plumm?

182) Do you think maybe the reason Tyrion has saved Jorah's butt is because he's been in Jorah's shoes? A fool over a woman?

182) So it was Penny and Tyrion in the pit. Surprised Tyrion kept Penny clueless as to what was going on?

183) What do you make of Jon's dream?

184) What do you make of the crow saying "King" then "Jon" then "Snow"??? Could this imply something about the future? Could he and Dany be destined for a future alliance?

185) That was a lot of wildings. If Jon didn't let them cross the wall they'd have died. How will they be able to sustain all those people???

186) "But we never found the true horn, not for all our digging."The horn Joramun IS going to the the one they found in book 2 that didn't work. I just know it! But where is it???

187) Looks like Wilding evacuation at Hardhome isn't going well. Wonder if any of them will make it out of there.

188) Wow! Hizdar zo Loraq sure is scrubbing the place of any remnant of Dany. I say he's guilty as sin of attempting to kill Dany. Why else wouldn't he eat the locust. Does anyone really see him as saying, "Oh there soooooo good you really need to try one. Oh, me? Well, I'm on a diet. Need to keep in shape for you sugar plum." *grin*

189) Sir Barristan seems to be moving cautiously. Could that end up costing him a chance of getting out of town before the bad guys come?

190) King Hizdar just proved he's not ready to rule. He's no idea what he got himself into.

191) Will the dragons survive?

192) Is Prince Quentyn stupid or what? What the heck is he thinking making a deal with the Tattered King? Prediction: Quentyn + Stupidity = Death

180) Do you think Tyrion was smart to escape while the escaping was good? Do you think anyone will get sick? I'm guessing Penny because I can't see how she'd be useful to the story anymore.
Awwww, I kind of like Penny! I think she's a nice sidekick for Tyrion. At any rate, you are probably right. Tyrion was definitely smart to escape. Did you think it was a little too easy though?

181) Do you think it was wise to go to Brown Ben Plumm? He can be bought, and Tyrion may have access to money (although at this point I am not so sure given he is a fugitive)

182) Do you think maybe the reason Tyrion has saved Jorah's butt is because he's been in Jorah's shoes? A fool over a woman? That's an excellent thought. Another reason may be that they are both outcasts.

182) So it was Penny and Tyrion in the pit. Surprised Tyrion kept Penny clueless as to what was going on? Not really, he's protective of her.

(83) What do you make of Jon's dream? I think his subconscious was dealing with things that have happened in the past. He is only a teenager, a bastard, always treated badly by Catelyn...and now he's in this high position...there is likely some part of him that feels he doesn't deserve it.

184) What do you make of the crow saying "King" then "Jon" then "Snow"??? Could this imply something about the future? Could he and Dany be destined for a future alliance? I have been hoping for that since Book 1.

185) That was a lot of wildings. If Jon didn't let them cross the wall they'd have died. How will they be able to sustain all those people??? With loans from the Braavosi banks.

186) "But we never found the true horn, not for all our digging."The horn Joramun IS going to the the one they found in book 2 that didn't work. I just know it! But where is it??? Very interesting. The horn that Euron had called sea serpents, right? Could it also call giants?

187) Looks like Wilding evacuation at Hardhome isn't going well. Wonder if any of them will make it out of there. I am confused about this whole situation. The letter said the ships are only taking women and children. Are they slave ships??

Need to keep in shape for you sugar plum." *grin* Yep, he's a real piece of work. I still can't believe Dany trusted him. I thought that was out of character for her.

189) Sir Barristan seems to be moving cautiously. Could that end up costing him a chance of getting out of town before the bad guys come? He has been through so much, I get the feeling he may be one of the last ones standing.

190) King Hizdar just proved he's not ready to rule. He's no idea what he got himself into.

191) Will the dragons survive? Yes, I think they will.

192) Is Prince Quentyn stupid or what? What the heck is he thinking making a deal with the Tattered King? Prediction: Quentyn + Stupidity = Death Hmmmm, I actually thought Quentyn did a smart thing by enlisting the help of the Tattered Prince. I guess I'm not seeing all the dangers of this. I do think taking the dragon is a dumb idea, but I do think enlisting the Prince's forces would be beneficial for Dorne. On another note, are we supposed to know who the Tattered Prince is? Why do I keep thinking it is Bronn?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Lisa Kay’s Answers to Lisarenee’s Questions for Chapter 57 (Tyrion) - Chapter 60 (The Spurned Suitor)

180) Do you think Tyrion was smart to escape while the escaping was good? Do you think anyone will get sick? I'm guessing Penny because I can't see how she'd be useful to the story anymore.
Yup, definitely smart to get while the getting is good. Since I really like Penny, I think your guess about her is accurate; she is expendable in GRRM’s cruel world will probably get sick and die. She was used to provide some history, some “humbling” for Tyrion, and to resurrect Tyrion’s soft heart.

181) Do you think it was wise to go to Brown Ben Plumm?
Hmmmmm. I don’t know yet. Something has been up with him (BBP) in Tyrion’s quick thinking brain for a while, but I can’t figure it out Tyrion has planned. Didn’t Tyrion prefer to be bought by Brown Ben Plumm when Yezzan purchased him? Or was it the other way around? Lord, I don’t know.

182) Do you think maybe the reason Tyrion has saved Jorah's butt is because he's been in Jorah's shoes? A fool over a woman?
Ah! Good point! However, I think he wants Jorah’s muscle and fighting ability too.

182) So it was Penny and Tyrion in the pit. Surprised Tyrion kept Penny clueless as to what was going on?
It was them! ☺ Not really surprised; he thinks he is protecting her.

183) What do you make of Jon's dream?
Whoa! That was some dream. I actually listened to it twice. At first I thought maybe he had warged into dragon form and was fighting everyone ! Little bit of guilt there, or anger and distrust? Wishful think on my part (about the dragon). However, I do think he might be Azor Ahai; didn’t that dude have a red sword?

184) What do you make of the crow saying "King" then "Jon" then "Snow"??? Could this imply something about the future? Could he and Dany be destined for a future alliance?
I would LOVE that… so no. LOL! GRRM isn’t granting any of my wishes.

185) That was a lot of Wildings. If Jon didn't let them cross the wall they'd have died. How will they be able to sustain all those people???
It is a hell of a lot of Wildings! Hopefully, he will have enough from his loan.

186) "But we never found the true horn, not for all our digging." The horn Joramun IS going to the one they found in book 2 that didn't work. I just know it! But where is it???
I think you are right. Doesn’t Sam have it, then?

187) Looks like Wilding evacuation at Hardhome isn't going well. Wonder if any of them will make it out of there.
It is terrible! They have resorted to cannibalism. Eek! And, per the letter, there are "dead things in the water"! WTF does that mean? Are we going to have the equivalent of the Others – only by sea instead of land?

188) Wow! Hizdahr zo Loraq sure is scrubbing the place of any remnant of Dany. I say he's guilty as sin of attempting to kill Dany. Why else wouldn't he eat the locust? Does anyone really see him as saying, "Oh they’re soooooo good you really need to try one.” Oh, me? Well, I'm on a diet. Need to keep in shape for you sugar plum." *grin*
I don’t care if he is an aristocrat; he is scum. And weak and vain. LOL! Funny, Lisarenee! I agree with Ser Barristan (and you), I don’t think Quentyn poisoned the locust. As to who did? I strongly think you are probably right and Hizdahr zo Loraq did it.

189) Ser Barristan seems to be moving cautiously. Could that end up costing him a chance of getting out of town before the bad guys come?
Man-oh-man! I hope not; he has long been one of my favorite characters. I loved how he was looking at Hizdahr when Bloodbeard, commander of the Company of the Cat, rolled Groleo’s head (Dany’s admiral) at his feet. And Daario Naharis was taken as hostage and is now released. At least Bloodbeard didn’t deliver them via catapult as he wanted. Ser Barristan has his measure: this greedy bastard dude just wants a reason to sack Meereen.

190) King Hizdahr just proved he's not ready to rule. He's no idea what he got himself into.
Nope.

191) Will the dragons survive?
Good gravy beans! I hope so.

192) Is Prince Quentyn stupid or what? What the heck is he thinking making a deal with the Tattered King? Prediction: Quentyn + Stupidity = Death
Pretty stupid! A fact, for some reason, that surprises me; I expected more intelligence from him, but he started going downhill in my estimation way back when he agreed to defect from the Windblown. However, I didn’t expect him to be so stupid! Man-oh-man! He’s toast. Make that burnt toast.

#180 – Oh, I’m glad you like Penny too. ☺

#181 – I hadn’t thought about BBP being “bought.” How could I forget a Lannister and anything to do with gold? You are right though, how would he get access to it? Maybe he has a hidden stash.

#182 – Good point about them being both outcasts.

#184 – You have! ☺

#185 – Mind Meld!

#187 – I think the Slavers were the ships prior to these. (These are from Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, a castle manned by the Night's Watch.) Probably why Cotter Pyke is having such a hard time; that, and the loss of the storm wrecked ships.

#188 – TOTALLY out of character for Dany.

#189 – Let’s hope so! I ♥ Ser B.

#189 – I am suspicious as to who the Tattered Prince really is too. But Varys can’t be everyone, can he? LOL!

Wasn't me who said that. I've had it on hold/request at the library for awhile. Just came in last night.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapter 61 (The Griffen Reborn) – Chapter 62 (The Sacrifice)

193) Geez! All these battles – past, present, future – to keep track of. Thank goodness for Wiki Ice, which I freely admit I have referred to often for this one; maybe b/c I’m doing it in audiobook form and I don’t have an appendix. Anywayz… A lot of strategic information and war plans in this chapter. Quite a bit of brutality too. Jon Connington, former Hand of the King to Aerys II, comes across more brutal and unfeeling for me than I previously envisioned him. If this dude is “reborn,” then he is a hell of a lot meaner. Especially throwing the maester out of the tower window and not caring about all the deaths of the warriors or prisoners. What do you think? Is all fair in war?

194) Predition? From Wiki Ice:
Greyscale is a disease that can leave flesh stiff and dead and the skin cracked and flaking, mottled black and grey and stone-like to the touch.
Okay, Lisarenee, you got me thinking over your comment about the Greyscale, Val’s comments, and it possible being contagious. I saw this hypothesis on the internet: What if Jon Connington gives Greyscale to Aegon – who turns to “stone” and then can turn into a dragon?

195) We learn that Prince Dorne Martell married Princess Myrcella to his youngest son, Trystane. Think his son will one day be King?

196) Was Aegon Targaryen naming Ser Rolly Duckfield (AKA Duck/Rolly) Kingsguard as big a mistake as Jon Connington fears? As we’ve seen, loyalty is a pretty important factor.

197) Am I confused again? Isn’t The Vale – or Vale of Arryn – ruled by House Arryn (castle known as Eyrie) and therefore NOT neutral? (Espcially if Littlefinger rules the roost?) Why does Jon Connington dismiss it so lightly?

198) Is there a possibly Dany will marry Aegon?

199) I couldn’t really blame Aegon for wanting to be in the battle, and can see this boosting the morale of his men. You?

200) BTW, what was all that about Aegon’s eye color being paler than Rhaegar's?

201) Yikes! Asha Greyjoy is about to be sacrificed to R’hllor to stop the snow and the howling winds. And raped by the brutal sadist Sluggs! Yuck, what a chapter. The sacrifice was a little to descriptive for me. This isn’t a religion, it is a cult. Right?

202) Even if he only wants her lands, I don’t blame Asha for following Ser Justin Massey; then I checked him out on Wiki Ice and he is a Queen’s Man (as in Queen Selyse) and therefore a practitioner to the faith of R’hllor, so that can’t be good, can it? Geez, you don’t know who to trust in this book.

203) Just in the nick of time, Tycho Nestoris, (a representative of the Iron Bank of Braavos sent to the Wall to negotiate payment of the debt of the Iron Throne with Stannis) shows up with Theon Greyjoy – looking like an old man – and with Jeyne Poole in tow. Did this surprise you? Where are the others who helped in the escape?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I thought I'd try to knock out all five chapters, but ugh! They were terrible. Glad I'm not listening to this late at night; I'd have nightmares.

I don't know if I'll do the next three... sorry. I need a brake from Westeros. But at least these two are done. ☺
