B. Throwsnaill (bthrowsnaill) | 208 comments Feels weird to hold a paperback after reading on my Kindle for several books. At this point the experiences of reading on both "formats" seem fairly interchangable. I did notice some variation in the typesetting and offset on the printed pages. Not sure if that's sensitivity borne of the uniformity of the Kindle experience or not... It still amazes me that I've taken to the Kindle like I have after years of conditioning to read physical books.

There's still something to be said about reclining in your favorite chair with a paperback (or hardcover) in your hand.

I still have tons of paperbacks, but I find it so much easier to read them on my iPad (I'm a night reader). The last hardcover I read was the special illustrated edition of Angels & Demons. It was really good. Every time the author talked about a piece of art, or made a reference to something, they'd show a picture of it. Very helpful for us less-knowledgable art enthusiasts. :)

I have my moments with both. Nothing beats the Kindle for when I am holding my daughter trying to get her to sleep or on the elliptical (the ability to change font size while I'm bouncing around is amazing).

Paperbacks still hold a place in my heart though. I love collecting books and especially now that I can get a lot of new books with personalized signatures from the authors. No ebook will ever get that beat.

B. Throwsnaill (bthrowsnaill) | 208 comments I hear you guys. Sometimes I look at my bookshelves and wonder what I could do with that space. But it's nice to pull out an old book and re-discover it.

Steve Thomas | 198 comments I've bought a nook about a year ago, and I absolutely prefer ebooks now. It's just the little things. Look angle changing, weight distribution, every book has its own form factor, no clock, bookmarks...

Physical books are a hassle.

P.J. Johns (PJJohns) | 93 comments I'm still ambling along with paperbacks at the moment. Should be getting a kindle for christmas, especially now the new ones are being released (well, we're only getting the basic model sans keyboard in the UK, but that's ok, as I quite like that one).

I tend to read in bed, and as much as I love print copies, they tend to hurt my fingers after holding them for a while. And the less said about hardbacks the better - the number of times I've had it slip out of my grasp whilst it's on my chest, for it to hit me in the face ...

B. Throwsnaill (bthrowsnaill) | 208 comments I'm a night reader too, and I do prefer the form factor and ergonomics of the kindle when reading in bed.

Brandy Camel | 66 comments Since I've started doing a lot of reading on the treadmills, and the treadmills at my complex have touchscreens behind the book holder (poorly designed, seriously), the screens can freak out and shut down the whole machine if I have a normal sized book set on them.

Reading digitally has become almost a necessity, as tapping on the touchscreen of my droid doesn't seem to set off the more sensitive touchscreen it sits on. Turning a page in a book precariously balanced on the too-small-for-anything-that-isn't-a-magazine holder, on the other hand...

Not sure if going back to 24 hour fitness will be better or worse for this. >>

P.J.

My wife was going to get me a kindle tablet for Christmas and take my current one, but the battery life is only 8 hours! I would have to charge it every 2 days. My kindle now lasts 2 or 3 weeks and I dont have to worry about it giving out on longer trips.
