Look, it's hardly gory. The most blood we see is while Peeta's dying, and he doesn't really DIE. Most of the other deaths are just a Katniss-arrow through the head. Or the neck. Or the heart.

Maybe Glimmer was a little disturbing, but you know...it's not, like, REALLY, REALLY bad.

Twilight's worse. That book is about BITING PEOPLE and BLOOD. (and sex) It's so much worse than The Hunger Games.

Magz Redbird (magzredbird) | 8 comments Oh.. these people are just too dramatic...making a scene.
The way the killings were explained are not even too detailed..not too violent compared to other books.
Now the "sexually explicit" part just proves that these people are either disgustingly stupid or just mental.
They DID NOT read the books..I can't find anything so sexual there. LOL

message 103: by Eva (last edited Feb 21, 2012 07:39PM) (new)

Eva To be fair, there is passing mention of girls selling their bodies to that creep in district 12 in exchange for food. That isn't exactly 5th grade material.

message 104: by [deleted user] (new)

And then there's Finnick...just Finnick. And then Finnick's, shall we say, occupation.

message 105: by Eva (new)

Eva Also, when Finnick "tells all", I remember this sort of passing mention of pedophilia (I don't have the book in front of me so don't quote me on it).

message 106: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah...I'm not saying the second two are fifth grade approved, but the first one is at least on the border. It shouldn't be banned. I know fifth graders that read Vampire Academy.

message 107: by Megan (new)

Megan Mitchell (meganmitchell) Sexually explicit? The closest I find to that is one of my favorite scenes:
"Finnick? Maybe some pants?"
"Why? Do you find THIS distracting?" and then
"Don't expect us to be too impressed. We just saw Finnick Odair in his underwear."

And I guess there's mention of the whole "selling bodies", but that's removed, a littler kid wouldn't get it, and it's what happens. Not like what's in Tw*l*ght "happens", but as in, that's how the world is sometimes. Heck, I referenced something similar VERY loosely in something I'm writing, and I'm 13.

i want a t-shirt like that!!!!

message 110: by Rue~alwaysa1directioner~ (last edited Mar 11, 2012 09:26PM) (new)

Rue~alwaysa1directioner~ (Ruealwaysa1directioner) Since when is THG sexually explicit!!??? There were barely more than 10 kisses in the whole book and no one did IT! (except for the part about Finnick but Suzzie did NOT describe it!). And if you don't like violence, then DON'T F***ING READ IT.
Moreover, if THG is banned, Twilight should be burned to ashes!!!

message 111: by [deleted user] (new)

Half of YA literature should be banned if THG is on sexually explicit grounds.

message 112: by Eva (new)

Eva Rue~alwaysa1directioner~ wrote: "And if you don't like violence, then DON'T F***ING READ IT. "

I love how in America, violence is supposed to PG to PG-13, but sex? Sex is R, all the way.

Jeez, some parents don't want their children to read books about blowing children up and stabbing them thru the freaking torso? That really surprises me.

And no, I'm not for banning ANY books (yes, any). But the idea that somehow if the Hunger Games had explicit sex scenes in it, it would be worthy of banning is preposterous.

message 113: by [deleted user] (new)

Are you KIDDING me? My (very, very rooted) parents completely blow American restrictions on sex out of the water. They would completely ban those scenes in movies. I don't think they know I know what "the birds and the bees" are.

It's annoying.

Eva Snickerdoodle wrote: "Are you KIDDING me? My (very, very rooted) parents completely blow American restrictions on sex out of the water. They would completely ban those scenes in movies. I don't think they know I know wh..."

That must be. I apologize for generalizing. It happens.

message 115: by [deleted user] (new)

It's all right. Sorry for the capitalization. That's just for emphasis - I was too lazy to italicize :)

message 116: by SpreadYourWings (new)

SpreadYourWings R the hunger games any good? i wanna read them but..........................

message 117: by [deleted user] (new)

YES!

But don't take my word; I'm a crazy screaming obsessed person. Ask someone a little less biased.

Rue~alwaysa1directioner~ (Ruealwaysa1directioner) You like completely should! I mean, come. On! Even my brother likes it and he's only 8!!! (but he likes gale, which sucks, but he's only on the first book!)

message 119: by Ela (last edited Mar 25, 2012 02:40PM) (new)

Ela Hunger games are definately amazing everyone I know who has read them has loved them.
They are NOT sexually explicit.

message 120: by David (new)

David Dawson | 4 comments They do know when they put something on the banned books list it just gets people to want to read it more, just to see what the fuss is about?

message 121: by [deleted user] (new)

True.

message 122: by Ela (new)

Ela Yep and people love to feel like they are breaking rules and rebelling, so actually they probably did them a favour :)

message 123: by [deleted user] (new)

It does not have ANY sex at all!!!!! What the heck are they thinking? Sure, it's very disturbing. But it's not like they really go into it all that much. I mean, it might have slight sexual content in the third book, but other than that!

Plus, what's before that, Harry Potter? Ooooh magic. That's dangerous. LOL

I have to disagree on younger kids not understanding. I was 9 when I read it and I got everything mentioned.

message 125: by [deleted user] (new)

No. Keep the Hunger Games - It should not be banned. It actually kind of teachs people things - How to be a leader. The book deserves to be stayed, it is an amazing book and everyone loves it. DON'T BAN THG.

message 126: by [deleted user] (new)

No one's banning THG at this point. The movie, soundtrack, and book all hit #1 at once.

message 127: by Eve (new)

Eve (allanasolo) | 11 comments if the critics hate it, it must be amazing.

message 128: by Gabbijayy (new)

Gabbijayy | 1 comments how immature do you guys think teenagers are i read it when i was 13 and i loved it i think this is completely selfish beyond compare taking away such an amazing book because of one sides belief. these people aren't our parents

message 129: by Juli (new)

Juli | 7 comments What the heck? If this book is number five on the banned books list, then Twilight is probably like number one or two. THG trilogy is not sexual. The violence *might* be a little much, but that's just the nature of the books...

message 130: by SpreadYourWings (new)

SpreadYourWings WHAT???!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!! i found the books not even that violent... sure it told about violence but SC didnt describe to the point where you were vomiting it was that PERFECT descripion that made you want to keep reading... THE HG ARE AMAZING AND THOSE CRITICS PROABLY HAVENT EVEN READ THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 131: by [deleted user] (new)

sexually what? because she kissed peeta or because they end up having kids that is so dumb. look at all the other teen books out there that are overly sexual but not the hunger games

message 132: by Hana (new)

Hana (dystopianqueen) | 4 comments i think the sc reason is because of the instance w finnick in mockingjay..... This book os okay for older teens and mature young teens, like myself. The book for the most part is a great teacher, imho.

message 133: by FallingAngels (new)

FallingAngels | 5 comments How does it have sexual content!?! It so doesn't! Hey I just realized something! Suzanne Collins and Seneca Crane have the same intials! Do you think it's a coincidence?

message 134: by Andy (new)

Andy (andyjg13) If THG was any of those things, then all Stephen King & Anne Rice books would be on that list, too.

message 135: by [deleted user] (new)

if they think thats sexually explicit they should readStory of a Girl

message 136: by (Ambz) ~|*The Angelic Vampire*|~ (last edited Aug 30, 2012 12:06PM) (new)

(Ambz) ~|*The Angelic Vampire*|~ (AmbzTheAngelicVampire) | 102 comments Okay, I understand why this might be a bit violent. Some children might have a hard time because they think that in the future, the Games might really be realistic. But sexually explicit? No. There was a few kissing scenes, but no. There was nothing sexually explicit. Nothing compared to book that I've seen in my school library. Parents can't just complain to the school boards because their kid can't sleep after reading the book. If the child really didn't like the book, then he/she'd would have put the book down and moved on. They don't read the whole book then complain to their parents. Yes, it was a little violent and at times, scary for younger children. But you don't go and demand that this book be removed and banned just because your child can't sleep at night. It's not like that will remove it from the child's mind. I'm not trying to be rude, but this really ticks me off.And then there's the fact that many school actually force their students to read the book for a project or whatever.

message 137: by [deleted user] (new)

Ya!!! I so agree!! I was watching a review thingy on tv the other day and this lady was like, "Although children around the world are lining up to see the famed Hunger Games, you might want to think twice about allowing your kiddos into the theater," and she talked all about how even though people from like 8-15 think that they can handle the 'extreme violence and post-apocalyptic experience' we can't... it was so stupid!!!! I mean, it might be a little too much for some 6-year-old, but a lot of parents took kids that little to the new Batman movie, and I bet thats a lot scarier than the HG!!

message 138: by Annie (new)

Annie Sharyl wrote: "It was NOT sexually explicit."

I know! How are they saying that?

Rachael | 3 comments Ella wrote: "Here are some things I found from a blog:

Perhaps the supposed explicit content in the books refers to the implication in Mockingjay that Finnick and other winners of the games were basically prostituted. I remember reading that and being taken aback. Even so, I don't think preventing readers access to books is a wise choice.

If Twilight worked for you (as it did for me) why ill on your affection for it? It takes moxie to admit you like something. Especially when the tide of public opinion has turned against it.

message 141: by Bob (new)

Bob That's just crazy but then remember back in the day they burned Beatles albums.
