Lee (lee-lette) | 1840 comments '1,2,3,4'
They seem to be getting more and more!
'7--12' she lost count
Now she's tossing and turning all about.

message 7252: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments She stopped counting sheep
at two o’clock, and by then
she had quite a flock!

message 7253: by Nadia (new)

Nadia | 690 comments The sheep came to life
They fought with all of their might
That night in her head.

message 7254: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments To appreciate
sheep fights fully is to watch
the fierce and woolly.

message 7255: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Baa-haha! Gold :)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Lol!

message 7258: by Nadia (new)

Nadia | 690 comments a blur of white fur
invades my imagination
bleats of agony

fill my sleepy head.
I beg them to stop fighting,
I have lost control.

message 7259: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments ! :-)

message 7260: by Julie (new)

Julie Grenness | 137 comments From Julie,

No, regained control!
Hit the bottle, reading my
Aristotle, sleep!

message 7261: by M (last edited Jul 11, 2015 06:51AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments Hot nights they uncorked
the wormed mescal, quoted Poe
and Aristotle,

smoked strong tobacco,
and sometimes Cal dressed up as
Quetzalcoatl.

message 7262: by Ryan (last edited Jul 12, 2015 04:41AM) (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments The bottle empty,
the worm arose, and dazzled
with some 'armless prose.

Before too long, Cal
started to squirm. Heading home,
said, "See you round, worm."

message 7263: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Excellent, Ryan!

message 7264: by M (last edited Jul 12, 2015 02:26PM) (new)

M | 11617 comments Cal found the house dark,
the mattress firm. Bookmarked, Poe’s
“The Conqueror Worm”

lay where he’d left it
by the bed. Its lines had spun
cobwebs in his head.

In sleep he wandered
moonlit streets and went into
a pizzeria

of worn-out counters,
torn seats, and waitresses who
looked like Ligeia.

message 7265: by Nadia (new)

Nadia | 690 comments Ligeia lives on
In the eyes of the waitress
The beauty in dark.

message 7266: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Thanks, M. Great continuations from you and Nadia :)

message 7267: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Her eyes were the blue
of ancient seas as she wrote,
“Thin crust, extra cheese.”

message 7268: by Ryan (last edited Jul 13, 2015 07:16AM) (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments His smile was soothing,
soft and balmy, as he asked,
"You want salami?"

message 7269: by Nadia (new)

Nadia | 690 comments A simple question
But his eyes told a story
a bit more complex

message 7270: by M (last edited Jul 13, 2015 12:47PM) (new)

M | 11617 comments From the night’s surreal
streetscape, there came to the door
a turbaned swami,

mustard stained, who knew
the old lore of bell peppers,
leeks, and salami.

The mist around him
wore neon hues as his gaze
swept the smoky room.

A juke box mumbled
groove-gutted blues. A girl held
a dustpan and broom.

message 7271: by [deleted user] (new)

Lovely, M! :) After all these time, I still find it difficult to follow your haiku :)

message 7272: by Nadia (new)

Nadia | 690 comments A girl sweeps again
A task never to be finished
Dirt is always found.

message 7273: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Thank you, Leslie (I think)! Nadia’s are more like real haiku. Hmm. How to follow it?

message 7274: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments To be bound by dirt
is as natural as breath
at its start and death.

message 7275: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments In dust did he rise,
then revel, until his wife
bought a Dirt Devil.

message 7276: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments He pondered. What could
move her to buy a vacuum?
What could be-Hoover?

message 7277: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments :-) Do puns that bad make you laugh or do they just suck?

message 7278: by Julie (new)

Julie Grenness | 137 comments From Julie:

Vacuum turned her to
Hausfrau, she forgot to suck
it up, Pudding Club!

message 7279: by Nadia (new)

Nadia | 690 comments Constant complaining
is not very attractive,
divorce soon to come.

message 7280: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Nothing complements
a meat course like signatures
on a fierce divorce.

message 7281: by Julie (new)

Julie Grenness | 137 comments From Julie:

Divorce family
Pizza, four corners, one for
each, one for Lisa.

message 7282: by M (last edited Jul 15, 2015 07:36AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments So like the lady
with the mystic smile, Lisa
lurked, sfumato style.

Pressed for specifics,
she demurred, deftly leaving
their take on her blurred.

message 7283: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments The reason Lisa
was a loner, was because
she was a Mona.

message 7284: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments It took me a moment to get that one. Now I’m laughing.

message 7285: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Sorry-lame joke :)

message 7286: by M (last edited Jul 16, 2015 07:37AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments In old, varnished oils,
a midday’s skies strangely light
a landscape’s boulders;

broken walls reflect
in her eyes as blue silk slides
from her pale shoulders.

message 7287: by Nicky (new)

Nicky (soundgirl) | 1388 comments The shift slipped from
pale shoulders to reveal
ample boulders.

message 7288: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Haha, love it!

message 7289: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments There was a mountain.
It was there to climb over,
Boulder to bolder.

message 7290: by Julie (new)

Julie Grenness | 137 comments From Julie:

She cast it all off,
Her over shoulder boulder
Holder, no older.

message 7291: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments No inhibitions,
Brazenly she shouldered
Nakedness and truth.

message 7292: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Blood moon above me,
hollow world bruising below;
contrails at sunset.

message 7293: by M (last edited Jul 17, 2015 05:37PM) (new)

M | 11617 comments No Leonardo
ever forgets contrails left
by Renaissance jets.

Mona slipped something
sleeveless on, boarded a plane,
and by noon was gone.

She left Lenny broke,
left no thanks, left him hungry.
He headed snackwards.

He doodled flying
machines and tanks, and started
writing things backwards.

message 7294: by Nicky (new)

Nicky (soundgirl) | 1388 comments M, I should know better than trying to drink tea and read your work!

message 7295: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Very nice, M!

message 7296: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Thank you!

message 7297: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments :-) Very clever and funny, M!

message 7298: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Thank you, Guy!

message 7299: by M (last edited Jul 18, 2015 04:57PM) (new)

M | 11617 comments Have I killed the thread? This one is intended to follow Nicky’s #8745:

Her ample boulders,
there to be kissed, drew many
a geologist.

message 7300: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments The watching throng cried,
'More, more, more!' They'd never seen
drawing boobs before.
