M | 11617 comments “I don’t overthink,”
laughed Gladys. “Who would turn down
a drink that’s gratis?”

message 6852: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Strayer | 338 comments Thank God I'm pretty:
The occasional free drink
I never asked for.

(Emilie Autumn lyrics that fit the form)

Lee (lee-lette) | 1840 comments Sometimes i'm awfully worried.
Is it only the oldies that
notice me?
Oh well, at least i'm no longer thirsty.

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments To have become old
is to be unseen by youth
and see only the young.

message 6855: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Is the sideman’s steel
now gravely strung? Not for Neil,
who is always Young!

Julie Grenness | 137 comments From Julie (via Mattel)

Plastic Barbie, so
Fantastic, so why does she

Eww. She was tickled.

her portfolio of plump,
high-risk investments.

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments RotFL!

message 6863: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments (This is out of order, but I’m going to post it anyway. It a reply to 8299. I wrote it on the way to the gas station.)

Her voice was like salve,
her drawled, sultry locution
the essence of verve.

She smiled. “Do I have
a normal distribution?
Examine my curve!”

message 6864: by Julie (new)

Julie Grenness | 137 comments From Julie:

Curvaceous, so round,
Call her cuddly from now on!
Good hearted woman!

Awesomme! I'm glad you posted it.

message 6871: by Connie (new)

Connie D. | 656 comments Her assets misused
his poor accounting left her
a zero balance.

message 6872: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments (I’ve tried to follow the zero balance.)

Her tanned youth misspent,
her prospects flagged; her once firm,
perky assets sagged.

Along came Dorland,
a beer-swelled hero, who left
her balance zero.

message 6873: by Julie (new)

Julie Grenness | 137 comments From Julie:

Zero heroes! Ha!
She woke up smiling, Oh those
Happy memories!

message 6874: by Julie (new)

Julie Grenness | 137 comments From Julie, no apologias to old Jerry Lee, his old Louisiana home, oh those happy memories!

message 6875: by Nicky (new)

Nicky (soundgirl) | 1388 comments Hi, I've been reading back through what I've been missing - so clever and very funny - you guys crack me up - it's probably a good job I didn't read them while I was in pain!

message 6876: by M (last edited Apr 09, 2015 04:30AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments From swamp cypress dreams,
a creole tune, she awoke,
old, sad with desire,

from trills years distant,
a rose moon, her murmured name,
a cabin’s hearth fire.

message 6877: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Stunning!

message 6878: by Ajay (new)

Ajay (ajay_n) | 1138 comments Beautiful, M!

message 6879: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments The lips that murmured
once her name, with a passion
to redden the moon;

lie cold and silent
as desire's flame, from her world
extinguished too soon.

message 6880: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments (Thank you, Ryan and Ajay! It’s a revision of one I was trying to tone down, in which she awakes “wild with desire,” and the last line of which was “his great balls of fire.”)

message 6881: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Goodness gracious!

message 6882: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments You’ve got the rhyme and meter down perfect in 8320!

message 6884: by M (last edited Apr 09, 2015 08:40AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments Sailor Higgs was dense.
Not a particle had he--
not a shred--of sense.

That he rose in rank
ruffled some wigs. None gladly
suffered Boatswain Higgs.

message 6885: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Meanwhile, back at 8320: “. . . with a passion / to redden the moon . . .” I think these are great lines!

Connie D. | 656 comments M wrote: "(Thank you, Ryan and Ajay! It’s a revision of one I was trying to tone down, in which she awakes “wild with desire,” and the last line of which was “his great balls of fire.”)"

I'd kinda like to see the original. ; >

message 6887: by M (last edited Apr 09, 2015 09:39AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments Connie, it was something like this. I wrote it as a take-off on Julie’s mention of Jerry Lee Lewis.

From swamp cypress dreams,
a jaunty tune, she wakened,
and seethed with desire,

from chords years distant,
a gorged moon, her murmured name,
his great balls of fire.

message 6888: by Julie (new)

Julie Grenness | 137 comments Lovely, M. From Julie.

"That'll be the day,
Fireboy!" she sighed to the moon...
"By the way, what was

Your name? I am what
I am, not what you all want
me to be!!!" Bells ring.

message 6889: by M (last edited Apr 09, 2015 11:39AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments So much for Fireboy . . .

Nice one, Julie!

message 6890: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Nice one, Julie :)

message 6891: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments The years left Fireboy
a drunken wreck--muttering,
popping Prilosec.

message 6892: by Ryan (last edited Apr 09, 2015 03:31PM) (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Too many years spent
downing liquor changed Fireboy
to Old Man Flicker.

Rachel Strayer | 338 comments He was a grease fire
Unquenchable by water
Blistering my skin

message 6896: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments She was an ocean
Cool water soothing the fire
That raged in my soul

message 6897: by [deleted user] (new)

He consumed me with
desire and left me alone
to mend my burnt soul

message 6898: by Julie (new)

Julie Grenness | 137 comments From Julie:(Overthinking is my day job!)

Burning, blazing, now
Overthinking, haunted red eyes,
Mirrors of regret.

message 6899: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments (Wow, Ryan, Rachel, Leslie, and Julie! Hmm, let’s see. How to follow Julie’s?)

For her, no roses,
no candles, could extinguish
how the past tasted.

message 6900: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Some pasts sweet, others
bitter, strangely hers tastes of
banana fritter.
