Tanaka Ken | 8 comments I sent in my book to Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, and LIbrary Journal. Publishers Weekly was kind enough to review it for me. They gave me a very nice review, but I'm just not sure how to put it to use.

I started my own publishing imprint and had a small run printed in China. I don't have a distributor and have been handling everything myself and mostly selling my book at http://www.everybodydiesbook.com on Amazon and wholesale to local stores or stores that find my book online.

So far I have listed the review on Amazon, and have sent a copy of the review along with the book to a few Newspapers and publishers.

Does anybody else have experience as a small press trying to make the most of a good review. What would you do in this situation?

Thanks so much for your time,
Ken

Larry Moniz (larrymoniz) | 181 comments As I've suggested as one of the many tips in my EPPIE Award Finalist book, use it to promote yourself to other print and broadcast media outlets.

Lin Pardey | 14 comments haven't read Larry's book, from the comments he has made on this forum, I think he would have good and logical ideas. But definitely think you should buy Dan Poynters Self Publishing manual immediately, read it, use it, but remember Dan has more energy than three people put together.

It is the book we used when we took over our titles from W.W. Norton 10 years ago.

Tanaka Ken | 8 comments Thanks, Lin. I just got a copy. I only have the energy of 2 people and one small rabbit, but maybe I will still be able to make use of the book.

Veronica Noechel (everonicanoechel) Where do you recommend buying the book? Is there one outlet that gives you a higher percentage of the take or does it matter? :)

Tanaka Ken | 8 comments Hi, Ratgirl. Thanks for your interest in my book. Http://www.everybodydiesbook.com is my site where I sell books directly, and they are all signed....so I love it when people buy from my site. It's also available on Amazon, which can also be great if people who buy it take the time to review it.
Yours,
Ken

Tanaka, thank you for the kind words.

Ratgirl, my book "Self-Promotion for Authors" is available as a trade paperback on both Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The Nook version is available on Barnes and Noble's website. I pulled my Kindle offerings until I know more about how this cozy deal with Kindle and OverDrive will work. I'm not interested in selling to libraries unless Kindle works out a better royalty schedule and stops giving away author rights. As a distributor, not a publisher, Amazon has NO right to negotiate a deal with OverDrive that appears to circumvent our rights as authors. At least, that's my opinion on the situation. I've queried both OverDrive and Amazon about how their deal will work and am still waiting for a response.
