How to hit #1 on Amazon...

I can put a Word Doc on my art program but I can't return it to Word. Also, since other sellers go on Amazon and undercut me with books I gave them free to review, or to the writers, I also offer it in Amazon Marketplace to undercut my undercutters. It's much less expensive there.

I just tagged your book Steph. Good luck

I am a new author with Goodreads. I have had two years experience with Kindle/Amazon.com. And right now, that is where all my sales come from. Amazon.com is the place you want to be if you are self publishing. But the sales are tricky. In the beginning, one of my books ranked in the top 100 several weeks. Two of those weeks were in the top 10. But that was in 'mystery books with an art history theme'. Amazon.com is all about readers doing searches. And since the number of books on the site is tremendous, the chance of your book coming up within the top 100 is rare. They have a tagging system that I have yet to figure out. Your have to have good sales to move up in the ranks to the top 100 in your category unless your category is very small. For example, mysteries is a huge category but only twenty sales can catapult you up there. I have found that title is the key to searching. If you have a word in your title that is a popular search word, you're in like Flynn. I have three books but only one has a popular search word. That word is Napoleon. Because of that, my sales for that book are ten times what the other two are. I don't know about reviews since I only have three and one wasn't good. But reviews only help if you can get the reader to your book in the first place. That's the key. But you definitely need to have your book on Amazon.com. That's where the sales are right now. And your royalty is 70 percent. No publisher can match that.
Hi all, I’ve been following Tag My Book on Amazon (TMBOA) and Todd since I joined Goodreads in Dec 2010, and am caught up on tagging April 2011 back to Oct 2010. Will get to the others shortly. Hopefully my book (Believing In Horses) will show up on TMBOA before long, but in the meantime, if any Goodreads friends are interested, please tag my book on Amazon - horses, young adult, military families. It's the story of a young girl in a military family who commits to saving uwanted horses. Link: http://www.amazon.com/Believing-Horse...
And my web site: http://www.believinginhorses.com
Thank you all, and it’s been great to see so many good books out there! - Valerie

Hi Claude, I don't really know yet, as my book has only been on Amazon for a few days now. But as I've gone through and tagged others, it seems to me that it would be helpful for the reasons pointed out in Todd's blog. I already had tags included in the Amazon listing before I asked people to tag for the same reasons I attach tags to my blog posts. Although I'm not on e-book yet, I'd think they'd be even more important there, kind of the difference between just browsing shelves or going to the section where you know you'll find the kinds of books you like to read. Can have success both ways, and if I were to have it my way, I'd prefer to have my book in both places -- for browsers, and for those who know what they are looking for. Long answer - sorry!
I sent the information about my books to the "Tag, You're It" website, and have been going through, tagging books that are on that site. I am going to go through and start tagging books that authors mention here. Such a great idea!
Hi Pat W., I just tried to reply, but I don't see it, so hopefully this is not the second time. Thank you for the tags and the kind words; I've tagged you, too. I noticed that you do not have a goodreads author profile, and since I just found out today that my member profile was not an author profile, I thought I'd share the information with you. Here's the link: http://www.goodreads.com/author/program. Good luck, and I liked your blog, also. - Valerie

Can someone link to an article that clearly explains tagging on Amazon and what it's good for? Also, any other links that you have to blog posts or articles about using Amazon to promote your book would be helpful too. Thanks!
How do you tag on Amazon.com? Do you go to your own book page and tag there or is there a special site you tag on? I'm confused about it.
I got Mark, Dave, Vered, Traci, Valerie, and old pal Lucien. Pat, I already had you tagged. These are Kindle editions. If you want to tage paper books, too, that would be great.

I am practicing on how to use this form of advertisement and just yesterday I registered and sent in this link to see how it works.
Hi all - I've been tagging as I get the emails, from both this site and TMBOA. (I caught up on the TMBOA site - wow, what a marathon!) I'm enjoying all these comments and questions people are asking, as I'm very new to all this and am learning so much. Thanks!!!Vered

Vered,Welcome aboard!
I read your author info on Amazon and the sample of your book - great voice and interesting premise/background for your novel.
Best of luck!
P.S. Is it/will it be available on kindle? I think there is a huge opportunity for your book there (especially since this sounds like YA paranormal - biggest market out there at the moment) and these sell well on kindle.
thanks Todd, for your welcome and encouragement (and for setting this system up)! Yes, it will be on Kindle in 2 - 3 weeks. Will let everyone know (another tag request...!)Vered
Todd - I've been tagging people on your blog, but I couldn't help but notice the page hasn't been updated since february? That means people in march and april aren't getting tagged...kinda unfair.

Hi Dora,
I had tagged your paperback edition, but I noticed your kindle edition didn't have tags yet, so I entered the same ones there to help you out :)

Alrighty, gang, I'm all caught up on tagging the books here & on Todd's blog. Hope it helps! :)Thanks so much for all the tags on my book, it's most appreciated!

Claude wrote: "Valerie, all the work you've done on tagging... have you seen an increase in your sales as of yet?"Claude,
Well, I'm a little confused by the question because my tagging other people's books probably wouldn't lead to an immediate increase in sales of my book. The way I saw it, I thought it was right to tag other people's books before asking them to tag mine. I can answer that I HAVE seen in increase in the number of tags, so the good people here at Goodreads and/or TMBOA are tagging, since I don't know who else is doing it. My publisher tracks the Amazon sales, they don't report to me daily, so I don't know if it's made a difference or not. Anyone else out there have data to answer Claude's question?

Ah-hah, I think I've figured out how this works. We're tagging people on this thread AND the website. ^^ Serves me right for not paying attention.Tagging definitely does work. When I invited people to my book launch (TODAY at http://www.uninvoked.com/ PLEASE stop by!) I asked them to tag as well and...Woohoo! Already #7 in one of my tags! ^^
I wanted to send out a big "thank you" to my Goodreads and TMBOA friends. Believing In Horses is now at NUMBER ONE for Military Families, and NUMBER FIFTEEN for Horse Books. Thank YOU for your tagging and support! I hope our tagging helps other reach their goals! And thank you, Todd, for starting this all. Todd Fonseca

Todd I added my book about 3 days ago and I have been tagging away but do not see my book "Destined To Live, Despite Me- any suggestions?
Question for all in 'tag my book'... Most of you are able to import a visual of your book onto the wordpress site Todd uses. How did you do that? Where do you find that visual link on Amazon.com and how do you get it to upload onto the 'tag my book' site? Thanks.
Claude wrote: "Question for all in 'tag my book'... Most of you are able to import a visual of your book onto the wordpress site Todd uses. How did you do that? Where do you find that visual link on Amazon.com..."Hi Claude,
Todd takes care of including the book cover in his tagging blog.

Todd wrote: "I just finished posting a book review for another tagging author. Check it out here!http://tagmybookonamazon.wordpress.co..."
Todd, I've been tagging for days and I notice that a lot of authors have never set up their tags on their book page. You have to tell them that's the first step. Otherwise, we have no tags to check.
Wow, what a fantastic idea this is--thanks so much for sharing. My YA novel, Gateway, will be up in a week or two and I've already begun tagging others' books.
Hi all,This looks really interesting. Hope I'm not too late, coming in 18 months after it started.
I'm wondering whether this seems to have made a difference for people.
Will have a think about what tags I'd like to use. In the meantime, will try to get a start on tagging others.

I haven't heard of amazon connect, only author central which is a happy little hub for your twitter, blog, bio, etc (are they one and they same). And thanks for the Shelfari and library things tip! Will be looking into those!
