Sandy Lender (fantasyauthorsandylender) | 35 comments I'm pleased that today my computer isn't crashing when I access Goodreads! I think the trick is to have only one web page open at a time if one of those pages is going to be Goodreads.
Anyway, I'd like to participate in tagging for folks and request tags from others, please.
My two novels are Choices Meant for Gods (http://tinyurl.com/CMFGamazon) and, the more recent, Choices Meant for Kings (http://tinyurl.com/CMFKamazon) and its kindle page (http://tinyurl.com/CMFKkindle). Anything you have time to tag on these pages is great but the ones I'm most interested in are:

fantasy; dragons; heroine; birthmark; medieval fantasy

Thank you for all your help! I appreciate it and understand fully the importance of reciprocating. Let me know what I can tag for you. I'm digging around in here to start tagging now.

Sandy Lender (fantasyauthorsandylender) | 35 comments Here's a question: How does the admin of the Wordpress tagging site (Todd) know that I'm participating if I don't typically log in as "me" each and every freaking time I click on book images/links in the "Tag You're It!" section?

And...if I go to Amazon and log in as if I'm about to purchase something or update images, etc., it merely kicks me out and asks for my password again when I go back to the Wordpress blog to click on the next book.

Does everyone actually re-log on each time they tag? That's insanity. I literally spent more than two hours tagging May and June this evening. I cannot imagine how much longer it would have taken if I had to log in for each book just to alert Amazon that it was me making the tag sugestions. I won't do that. Ya'll are just going to have to believe that it's me when you see a new number roll up on the tag. (Well...you folks in the July list can believe it in the morning. My tired little eyes want me to rest right now. :) )

Hard to know how they find it. I think the "amish" "childrens books" "books for boys" and "time travel" tags have been the most useful - these are the ones folks tell me they were "surfing" when they found my book...

All books: sfr, futuristic romance,

Todd,

A question about tagging. I always assumed that it was redundant to tag a colleague by their own name (unless they asked specifically)... but when a friend of mine said she couldn't find her own tag cloud, I took a look around.

It looks like it shows up on an author's page who has tagged for one by name.

Good grief. Tagging is getting nasty. One of the October bunch has got 4 tags for being a spammer.

Is there a Spammer community? Can we vote this sort of nastiness down?

Sandy Lender (fantasyauthorsandylender) | 35 comments Rowena wrote: "Is there a Spammer community? Can we vote this sort of nastiness down ."

Rowena,
I, too, saw the word "Spammer" on a few of the books in the earlier months (I'm in the process of catching up because I'm so new to the group). Because I click as many tags as I can for a book while I'm on the page (why not, right? I'm already on the page.), I noticed it and thought "this is not a positive word." Because it's not a positive word and I didn't really understand it, I didn't click it. Now I see the scoop and I'm horrified.

A) Why would people spend as much time as it takes for tagging to be negative and hateful? (Karma's gonna catch up to somebody there!) Truly...think of the HOURS it takes to sit down and tag our group...I'm only up to August 2009 and it's taken me HOURS of my time. But I'm doing it because it's important to my fellow authors in this group. Pay it forward, I say, and that's pretty freakin positive.
B) Does the "spammer" tag with a mere 4 to 10 clicks truly matter? If someone comes to Amazon looking for a book...what are the chances the average book reader/buyer will think, "I sure don't want to accidentally buy a book from a spammer, so I'll type that in as a search word and make sure it's one of my filters." 100% of the people I talk to about tagging have NO CLUE what it is until I explain it.

Having said all that, it would be nice to know how to delete that tag...

From Sandy Lender
"Some days, you just want the dragon to win."

message 1187: by Rowena (new)

Rowena (rowenacherry) | 334 comments Mod
Sigh. I don't know whether it can be completely deleted, but you can go to the spammer community, find the book in question, and uncheck a tag in response to the Amazon question "Does this book belong in this community?"

I think Amazon's filters prevent some of the more scurrilous epithets that a disaffected reader might want to throw at an author, thank goodness. But I'm not daring anyone....

Jerry Haigh (jerryhaigh) | 16 comments There is a lack of balance in this tagging thing.
I have tagged 23 books by members of this group in the last few days. In return I now have up to eight (8) tags for my most recent book The Trouble With Lions. Some of these were there before I joined.
My writing is in the creative non-fiction category and only one of the folks on the list writes in the genre. She has tagged my work on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk (thanks Victoria). What are the rest of you doing? A ratio of 3 tags out to one tag in is pretty unbalanced.

message 1192: by Jerry (new)

Jerry Haigh (jerryhaigh) | 16 comments Interesting R.
I agree that there are two levels of activity. I also wonder if some folks want their own books tagged at the expense of others. This might make some sense if they were writing in the same genre and wanted to out-do you, but none at all otherwise. As for the friends thing, you are right, but some don't want to, and others (many) do not like to use Amazon at all. Of course if they lack an Amazon account they cannot tag. They only need to buy one toothpick and they are in, but for some, that is not an option.

To Dr. and R.,
It takes a long while to get caught up on the tagging. I would say "be patient." I'm fairly new to the group as well and haven't seen much progress in the numbers. Did you add your book info to the Wordpress blog? What I'm doing is (slowly) getting through all the months there. It's taking forever, but I'm doing it. When I get to November, I'll get to your book and tag it. (I'm at August right now so not much longer to wait!)

The idea of reaching out to friends is a good one. I had a "Tagging Party" over the weekend as a facebook event. I only have 211 friends on facebook, but I invited all the relevant ones to this event, explained briefly what tagging is--where the tags are--what to do--etc., and sent the invitation out. I used my hardcover page and my kindle page as links on the event's page...etc. You probably get the idea. By the end of the weekend, my numbers had increased by 12.

Was it worth it? Sure.
The trick is in the "explaining," of course. ;)

Hi Brett,
The Tagging list can be found here:
http://tagmybookonamazon.wordpress.co...

The site opens with Todd's new cover -- It is easy to work from this list.

Click on the book cover
That takes you to the amazon.com site for that book
Scroll down until you find the Tag display
(If you have already tagged this book, you will see it ticked. Don't tick it again, as that deletes it.)

Tick the tags the author has asked for, (if not mentioned I always tick the first four.)

Once you've ticked the tags, goto the 'return to last page arrow'(top of the screen) and that will take you right back to the Tag my book List, and after a few seconds drops down to your next bookcover.

Do the same all over again, tick the new cover, find the Tag display, tick and return to last page. It is so quick and easy once you get into a rhythmn.

Let me know how you get on,
cheers
Carole
