I would also Todd, that sounds like a good idea.

Michelle Ross | 14 comments That is a neat idea to learn more about authors. Other than the frustration of finding my niche I'm afraid my background isn't all that interesting, but it'll be neat to read about others.

On a side note, I have now completed Demember's tagging on amazon. Only four more months to go and I'll be all caught up! :)

By the time you get this it will all be over. How did it go? Did you manage to sell many books? I hope you had time to enjoy yourself as the day wore on.
Cheers

Stuart (mccallum) | 241 comments Hi Friends, mentors, and downright great people....I have returned home from 'China Town' Melbourne.

Today, has been absolutely awesome....they are wonderful people and for the first time in my life, I truly felt like an author....photographs' et cetera.

I sold sixteen copies, and three people are going to add the event to their blogs. A great experience.

Thank you, for your comments, uplifting in the true sense of the word.

ciao for now, Stuart 'Ross'

Stuart (mccallum) | 241 comments Hi Friends,

Wow! What a week and it isn't over. Thank you all for your congratulations, I had a magnificent day. Ending with a parking ticket courtesy of Melbourne City Council, didn't taint my day; not in the slightest!

Todd, you mover and shaker you, huge congratulations well on your way to becoming an internationally known author of great merit!

Sorry folks, I do tend to rattle on. Yes. I talk a lot as well!

Take good care, Stuart

message 880: by Stuart (new)

Stuart (mccallum) | 241 comments Jane, on my way to the event my stomach was literally in knots! However, as soon as you start to interact with people it becomes more like a social event--terrific stuff. Arrange a signing soon, you will love it!

Ciao to all, Stuart

message 881: by David (new)

David Korinetz | 77 comments Here is an idea you can try. Find a talisman. I was nervous at every book signing until I got a wizard hat, which I now wear at every event. When I put it on, all my worries seem to fade away. People always smile when they see the hat and that helps a lot too.

If you want to see the hat click here:

message 883: by Penelope (new)

Penelope (PARiley) | 39 comments David, So what kind of a hat would you suggest for my book signing? My book is Travel absurdities, a humorous collection of short stories of mishaps, oddities and absurd things that have happened to me while traveling.

http://aztexhats.com/system/shopexd.a...

message 886: by Penelope (new)

Penelope (PARiley) | 39 comments Never thought of that one, I was thinking a captains hat or pilot. Safari Pith Helmet, that's interesting. I say I am a Nomad but not sure what kind of a hat they wear!

message 887: by Dee (new)

Dee Marie (dee_marie) | 460 comments Hey Penelope,

Check out the hats at the Nomad Store

message 888: by Penelope (new)

Penelope (PARiley) | 39 comments Found one, a Nosquito Outback Hat, then I could put a camera around my neck, maps in my pocket and let's not forget the fanny pack. All I have to dress like is a tourist in a flowered Hawaiian or Caribbean shirt, oh then maybe I should wear a Jamacian hat with dreadlocks! This is too funny!!

message 889: by David (last edited May 29, 2009 01:49PM) (new)

David Korinetz | 77 comments Whatever your talisman is to be, you will know it when you see it. Try looking at costume patterns in a sewing store, or exotic jewelry at local craft markets. It should just jump right out at you. Just looking for it can be a lot of fun.

Hats, hats, wonderful hats! I checked out your hat...now that is what I call a hat: terrific stuff.Read the following posts, great advice, we can all hide behind our hats!

All in the name of fun, Stuart

Carole (casutton) | 223 comments Dee wrote: "Hey Penelope, You need a Safari Hat Pith Helmet

Yeah! what about a sea captain's peaked hat for me? what a great idea. The thing I like about it is you are donning a symbol of another character, therefore your shyness should evaporate as you are playing that other character's part!

Nancy Jarvis (screalwriter) | 54 comments Hi Jane, Penelope and all who are nervous about book signings: the people who will be coming to your event already like you or want to like you or they wouldn't be there. They want you to succeed so when they open your book and see you have signed it just for them, they'll feel special and remember they enjoyed meeting you. You'll just be talking to friends...no worries.

message 894: by Penelope (new)

Penelope (PARiley) | 39 comments The signing I have on the June 4th is in my old hometown where I was born and raised. Some of my old high school friends are coming out to see me. Playing up the local girl does GOOD! I have done other signings and it never bothered me but because they knew me...way back when...it makes me a little at ease. I am sure once I get started I will be fine but this is the first time I have had to do a reading. I can talk someones leg off but have never been found of reading aloud. Oh the things one has to overcome. I also have a tentative interview on the local TV.
I decided that on some of my signings that are local or not flying to that I would over-dress as a tourist, with my old huge camcorder (shoulder ones, remember them) Tropical shirt, flip-flops, still-camera around my neck and a map hanging out of my pocket. Of course a pair of horn-rimmed glass (of the 60's)too. That should break the ice and show everyone my humor.

message 895: by Gina (new)

Gina (grcollia) Penelope, I'm doing my old hometown on August 8th. I've been excited about the other signings, but this one will be entirely different. School friends that I haven't seen for 24 years will be there... relatives too. I have a real soft spot for the place too.

On the subject of talismans... no matter what else I'm wearing, I wear colourful socks. Striped, spotted, flowery, glittery... all manner of colours. I feel better knowing that a part of me is pink, green, orange and purple all at the same time.

message 896: by Penelope (new)

Penelope (PARiley) | 39 comments We are an odd lot aren't we? I know that when I do other signings these are people that have come out to see me and enjoy my book but this one is the hardest. I so want to leave a good impression with my family and friends from high school(class of 66). I am sure some is curiosity (we all suffer from that). I also have not been on TV in years. I use to work at the TV station as their film editor(now that dates me since there is no flim anymore) in the 70's. I did several commercials for them, too. Back then, I was young and slim. But I can talk like I know no stranger so that is good.

I leave Tuesday, on my birthday, for the Pacific Northwest and then on to Alaska. I will let you all know how I did and share some photos of my adventure.

message 897: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Ross | 14 comments Have fun at the signing Penelope. Let us know how it goes. On another note, I have finally completed tagging for all the months and am now at the point of tagging the new submissions once or twice a week.

message 898: by Penelope (new)

Penelope (PARiley) | 39 comments Thanks for the well wishes and I will post some pictures of the beautiful places in Alaska too.

message 899: by Todd Fonseca (new)

Todd Fonseca | 489 comments FYI - I added a "search function" to the Tagging site so it is even easier to find your favorite posts or share / bookmark them on social networking sites. As I mentioned on twitter, each time I've posted a book review on Stumbleupon - it gets around 100 hits that day. So if you liked your review on my site, try submitting it to a few social sites (again stumbleupon seems to get the most response from folks) along with appropriate booksmarks/tags (like book, books, book review, your books genre, etc.). I've been trying to update most of the posts with a share button but even if I haven't gotten to yours yet, you can just cut and paste the link straight to any of the bookmarking sites.
good luck!

message 900: by Gina (new)

Gina (grcollia) I like the way the books are all chopped up into months... my brain needs all the help it can get. I like the little search man with his magnifying glass too.

My tags don't seem to be altering now though... anyone else noticed that?
