How to hit #1 on Amazon...
Oh this could be a fun game, If you catch a grape in your mouth you have to become a Fan of the one who tosses the grape :]Or, something like that, hehe
I love this board! T-shirts, fans, grapes, plums! You guys are the best.Off to figure out this fan thing!
I have a lovely fan... bought it in France. It has images from the palace at Versailles all over it.Dee, the plum wasn't so bad... when we move on to melons I'm relocating to the cupboard.
So I've been toying with the idea of doing something similar to tagging here on Goodreads using their "shelves". For example, here is the chick lit shelf:
http://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/j...
What do you guys think?
T
Sorry Dee. I was just checking out different book shelves on goodreads. On the chick lit shelf (just an example!) the number one book is "confessions of a shopaholic" where 482 goodreads folks have it on that particular shelf (sort of like an amazon tag). This works similar to Amazon tags, the more goodreads authors have the same book on the same shelf, the higher it appears on that "shelf's" list.
So when you go to the "explore" "books" option at the top of good reads it opens a page of "popular shelves" that books are on (kind of like frequently used tags on Amazon).
If you click on the "to-read" shelf (the most popular on amazon), the top book is "The Kite Runner" - which has over 22,000 goodreads folks having put it on the "to-read" shelf.
Make sense?
Anyway, this essentially works the same as tags. For example, I put "sons of avalon" on the "arthurian legends" shelf here:
http://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show?s...
See now your book is #5 on the list. Cool eh!
Ooh, I get it... yes, cool. 22,000 people have The Kite Runner on their 'to-read' list... 22 have my Guppy book, but who needs a bunch of zeros anyhow? lol.
Very true indeed, Dee. And I didn't have anywhere near 22 until you posted your review... so I shall thank'ee again :o)
I've been browsing the shelvs, and I found under fantaty..."Best Trippy Books". What a lovely description.Oh, and great idea Dave. You really are some sort of mad genius. Okay, not mad. But very on the ball!!
Gina, I totally think you should bring said fan to booksignings and have hubby fan you with it while occasionally dropping grapes into you waiting mouth. It will reinforce the Delightfully Wicked theme.
terrie
Caught up on tagging as well. I like the "control f" function Todd. makes life, oh so much easier :]For you new tag team members, don't forget us "old timers" we still need your tagging help.
Hey Thersa thanks so much for becoming a fan. I appreciate it greatly :]
Dee, I was going to say something about that. I checked my tags after tagging about twenty books and I was still where I was last week. (Except for the goodreads author which made me smile!). I was like, do they know they're supposed to run through the list? Today I'm making an Amazon order and I have Dee's Gina's, Todd's and Carole's book on the list. Since I'm still new you guys are the only people I feel I kinda know. I totally need to read some more threads.
Terrie
My tags have stayed at the same number too... I think they've been that way for a while. You don't want to go venturing onto other threads... they won't throw grapes at you just anywhere you know.
Hey, Theresa,
thank you for adding Ferryman to your order list at Amazon -- I am in such good company. What a wonderful place this this! Grapes not withstanding!
Carole
Gina, 'tis true. I read and (slightly) participate on other message boards but no one is as nice as the folk here. Virtual hugs all around. Carole, "Grapes not withstanding!" ha ha ha!
*Oh, Gina, totaly out of the blue but a friend of mine just introduced me to Devonshire tea and for the past two weeks I have daily made scones and had Devonshire tea with my 13-year old son. You English rock. And calling cotton candy 'candy floss', that is inspired as well.
Now, I'm going to have to play a game of paper, stones, scissors with myself to see which book I read first!
Gina wrote: "My tags have stayed at the same number too... I think they've been that way for a while.Yes,mine are at a standstill as well. I can see the problem, the list is now so long it must be daunting for any new tagger to start at the beginning. I wonder if there is a way of breaking it down into sections so that newbies could tag a managable amount at a time without losing their place on the list?
Todd wrote: "Sorry Dee. I was just checking out different book shelves on goodreads. I have gone into that section at times and found a list of books I have never heard of and have little interest in. Whereas this way we would find books that are already being promoted on this site and whose titles are becoming familiar and therefore we are more likely to buy.
Carole
Thersa, wow thanks for considering my book!I agree, this is a fun and friendly board towards authors - makes my day to ready the fun posts we all have.
All - my tags have stayed the same too. However, I just sent out the newsletter so I'm hoping that will get some folks into gear. I might have to start looking again at folks who are and aren't participating...

Hi Todd, I think your idea of adding each other's books to our to-read shelves on Goodreads is great! I will go ahead and start adding those I remember...Elise
I started that a few weeks ago (adding books to my to-read shelf) not really knowing what good, if any, it was doing but a few people had added mine. So I started with the bookshelf on the home page of this group and added all of those. Maybe if everyone was sure to add their books to our bookshelf, we could start there?
Bernadette, I'm glad you mentioned the group's bookshelf... I'd forgotten to add to latest book. I don't think I've added it to any of the groups... off to check.
How does one get to Jaimey Grey 'Regency Romance Author'-- to say thank you for the exposure? Quite by chance I was going though Amazon's page on Ferryman and I came across a page named Listomania and displayed on it I found,Sons of Avalon, Time Cavern, Utaro Reveals, Ferryman and Your Roots Are Showing.I am still learning how GoodReads works and constantly find myself lost, or unable to get back to familiar ground! :)

I had fun making the "goodreads author" lists and tagging everyone's books. It is such a neat little community here that I wanted to share it, so to speak. :o)
I'm still working on the descriptions for each book at the moment--family and children can be time-consuming. Did I get yours right? It is so difficult to sum a story up in one sentence.

I might have said 'had disappeared'- but that is probably a moatter of choice. Well done - with a growing family I wonder you can spare the time! cheers
Carole
You're all very welcome. Like I said, it was a lot of fun. :o)Carole, I see your point ('had disappeared') and will change it accordingly.
Meanwhile, votes for my lists will actually put them up higher in amazon searches and whatnot, giving us all a little extra exposure. Just FYI, no pressure. :oP
Jaimey,Thanks for including my book as well!
Dee,
Here's the link:

My book isn't on Amazon quite yet, but should be in May (its current release date). I ahve followed this thread with interest, and wanted to throw in my two cents worth of thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences and knowledge. I look forward to having the time (soon, I hope) to dig in and start exploring everything mentioned here.If I may add an unsolicited plug for another GoodReads author, I'm in the midst of reading Mary Akers' Women Up On Blocks and can vouch for the quality of her work--sheer enjoymen. If it hadn't been for GoodReads I never would have found out about her and other authors I'm waiting to read.
Thanks to everyone.
Gina wrote: "Jaimey, I had no idea the lists could be voted for. Many thanks for adding my book. I have voted!"You're welcome and thank you, Gina. Did I get the synopsis correct for Utamaro Revealed? One-liners are difficult especially if one has yet to read the book...
Your grumpy man book is actually on list 2; I didn't forget him. :o) Hopefully, this link works: http://www.amazon.com/gp/richpub/list...
Amazon has tried to make a very interactive experience for customers and sellers. You can vote on reviews, lists & guides, forum posts, and even blog posts for the AmazonConnect authors. I have had a lot of fun playing with the site. :o)
~Jaimey Grant
Yes the description is fine for the Utamaro book :o)Thanks for including old grumpy! I've voted for that list too.
Wow Jaimey,I just visited the list as well, and voted :)
What fun :)
Thanks for including Sons of Avalon Merlin's Prophecy, I am all giddy inside :)

Hey Carole,
Goodreads has a new "function." If you look under your favorite author's profile page, there is now a button to become a fan of that author.
I am one of your fans ;]
Hey Thersa...I am going to "fan" you right now :)
This is too much fun.
