Germaine Shames (germaineshames) | 38 comments Thanks, Amy. Few glories to report quite yet, but wonders abound. Just to give you a taste... Because my forthcoming novel is set in the world of ballet and music, the dance community has taken a special interest in it. The exquisite cover image was gifted to me by the accomplished Russian danseur, Stanislav Belyaevsky. Some of the foremost ballerinas of our day, including Susan Jaffe, "America's quintessential ballerina," contributed cover blurbs.

A supportive group of peers helps me keep my expectations realistic and my focus on what matters most--the work itself and the occasional surges of inspiration and joy that go into creating it.

Thanks again!

Sabine Reed (sabineareed) | 29 comments Germaine, I just followed you on twitter, and went to check your site. I think you need to blog more on your own site. It makes the site more up to date, and increases the ranking on google. But isn't your publisher doing anything to promote you also?

message 56: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments This is going to make me sound unintelligent.. but I'll ask anyway. lol
So blogging on your own blog frequently gives you a good ranking on google? What does that mean exactly?

message 57: by [deleted user] (new)

If blogs work like normal websites, it's about keeping the content up to date. Google send out little bots that check the pages of your site periodically to see if anything has been changed or added (as well as to check the relevancy of things like your meta-data etc). If you add new stuff to your site regularly, you get a better rating from their bots and they list you higher on the search engine results. (I only know this because I live with an IT nerd)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments Oh! Well thats cool. I never even thought about that!! Its just another incentive to blog regularly

message 59: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep - it's definitely good to keep things fresh, even if you only have a small following. That way it increases your likelihood of more people finding you. :D

That is incredible!! I miss my days of dancing - I never would have made it in the world of professional ballerinas though...I was WAY too tall for that! LOL

I'm thrilled they have taken such an interest - bonding worlds together like that is really a feat.

Funny story, I quit dancing ballet when they told us (7 yr olds) we couldn't wear underwear during our performances because it showed lines and such. Being the firecracker I always have been, I said forget this, that's just gross.
Fast forward to today, I hate underwear. Tmi I know....;)

Dale Ibitz (goodreadscomdale_ibitz) | 298 comments Me too Cam! But again, there's that persistence thing. That word seems to go hand in hand with writer. Like peanut butter and jelly.

Jenn, too funny. My daughter was the complete opposite. I was always chasing her down trying to cram her *into* the undies. She's a "go commando" kind of girl!

message 75: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments LOL, dale! Kids are something, they have their own minds and forget about changing them. My son can be a real terror. When he doesn't wanna do something then just forget it. *sigh*.

And yes, there is a lot to being persistant. I hope it pays off. But you know with persistence comes patience as well...

C.S. Splitter | 979 comments Must not make jokes....must not make let Tom Crayder out...must not....commando and D cups...these are a few of my favorite things...

Ok, I resisted.

Here is a funny thing I noticed when coaching kid's baseball:

It was a rule that every player wear a cup. It's a good rule because even six year olds can get injured permanently.

So, before every game, I would get everyone on the bench and ask if everyone was "properly protected."

Invariably, the response from the players was for them to stand up and bang on their cups with their knuckles enthusiastically lol. Some used baseball bats (no lie).

I would look over and the other coach would be going through the same thing.

That stopped at 12 or 13.

I know some kids resist wearing protection, but I'm telling you, if you want grand kids you need to make them.

PS....almost no one wears a cup on a football (American football that is) field. A lot of times when you see them grabbing their quad like someone has shot them but they return a few plays later, the truth is that they just paid the price for not wearing a cup but can't show it.

Dale Ibitz (goodreadscomdale_ibitz) | 298 comments Splitter, now there is something I didn't know! Seriously??? That's too funny!

Unfortunately...or maybe fortunately...I don't have worry about D cups, single, double or otherwise! Though my daughter has as much an aversion to bras as she did to undies. TMI, I know, but it's so funny!

And Cam, I'm not talking about my son today...seeing as we just got back from traffic court. *Sigh* *Moan*

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Off topic for the moment: jelly query.

Does the word 'jelly' cover all types of jam or is it just the sieved, clear, set stuff? What do you call it if it has the pips in?

I should add, this query has no relation to Splitter's story about banging on your cup with a baseball bat.

I probably shouldn't add, however, that the line in whichever psalm it is that says "and my cup doth overflow" has made me laugh since I was six. Not continuously, you understand, but consistently, deffo.
With which thought, I should get back to the dayjob.

We need a new thread just for the brits/english people in our group to tell us americans what some of the lingo means.
What is a pip?

For me, jelly is just smooth and boring but jam.....oooooo....jam is good stuff with chunks!

lol, That was Vegameatavitamin. Good memory!

The first time I heard of vegemite was on that old Men At Work video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEgCkO...

message 95: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments I think it's mostly salt and yeast. Marmite at least is a by-product of the industrial brewing process (which begs the question of whether you should eat it if you're teetotal I suppose...).

C.S. Splitter | 979 comments I have a client who pushes $5 cards on me. They do them as some sort of promotional thing. I get them right before they expire I think.

Sadly, I am mostly a regular coffee guy. My wife and I do use them once in a while when she wants a latte and a do a cap.

I am STILL that dude at SB who has no idea how to order lol.

What the heck was wrong with small, medium, and large?

message 100: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments In the UK we have various coffeeshops and they ALL have different sizes. In Costa if you ask for a large and are drinking in, they give you the sort of twohandled soup bowl where, if you have a cappucino, you end up with a froth-line curved half an inch above your eyebrows... not a good look!
