Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments Hello! I just found this group. I'm a challenge addict. I prefer challenges that don't restrict me too much. I don't like to list books ahead of time and then be unable to change them. I have a massive physical TBR and so I'm trying to only do challenges now for which I already own books. Or can use audios free from the library to complete.

I have a question about the 100 book challenge that I was just looking at: we can leave off some categories right? I don't read much Chick-lit or Horror. Some books I read probably qualify for those. But I don't wnat to acquire any to fill the categories when I just don't care for those genres much. I noticed that some of the sign-ups only had some of the categories listed.

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Hi Mary, Welcome. :) For the Top 100, just pick the 5 genres you like. You'll read 20 books each in each genre to complete the challenge.

message 153: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments OK great. I can usually knock out 200+ a year. But I have nearly 1100 books already and am making it my mission for 2012 to read from my physical TBR and not acquire a lot for challenges.

message 154: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 948 comments I just realized what a dumb question that was. If I'd thought about, I would have realized that reading 20 for each would be more than 100 books.

Rachael C. (norcalbibliophile) | 56 comments Those are great suggestions, Jennifer. Thank you so much. I'll start with a mini challenge and the year challenge.

message 157: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) Well I joined into a challenge before posting my introduction. My name is Monica. If there are any other Monica's you can always call me Monica Lynn or Monty.

I am from Pennsylvania. I have lived in PA my whole life just now in a different part.

I love just about every genre. Right now I have been reading mostly mystery, suspense, thrillers. I love to read anything and will give most any genre a try.

I wouldn't consider myself a pro at challenges. I have done challenges on another site and do enjoy them.

A little bit more about me:
I have two grown children. A daughter who will be 21 this December and a son who is 19. I also own two cats and currently have my daughter's and her boyfriend's dog living with me. I am going through a divorce and reading has been one way to escape that heartache.
Happy Reading all!!

message 163: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (tiffykatt) Hi all!

I'm Tiffany from Houston, TX. My favorite genre would have to be Fantasy or Paranormal although I read just about everything. I've never participated in a reading challenge, so I'm curious as to what this will be like. If I'm not reading, then I'm crafting or singing really bad karaoke.

message 164: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Hello - My name is Sheila and I am a challenge addict.

-- group says "Hi Sheila" --

I just turned the BIG 6-0 and have recently retired after working 37 years as a respiratory therapist. I live along the Mississippi River in Illinois, USA.

I really didn't read much for pleasure since high school until a few years ago. I seemed to get so burned out by all the required reading in college that once I graduated, got married and had a family I just stopped reading.

Now however I tend to be reading a minimum of 4 books at a time. I only get in trouble if the books are similar. I read a lot of mysteries/police procedurals. I have however lost the ability to pick out what to read next. That is where the goodreads challenges come in.

I am VERY excited to find this group and look forward to being an active participant.

Melissa ~ Recreational Hobbyist (recreationalhobbyist) Hi everyone! I'm Melissa and I live in Michigan. My genre is pretty much suspense/thriller/horror, but I pretty much will read anything. I'm fairly new to challenges..I attempted 2 in the RIME group and failed :( although, in my defense, my last challenge I read Under the Dome (a monster novel of 1100 pages) and my goal was to read the 1st two Game of Thrones books...not exactly light reading :) I managed to get 600 pages into the Game of Thrones by the end of Oct...and still working on it :)

Hi there! :)

I'm Denise, originally from Germany but currently living and studying in Finland. I've been addicted to books ever since I learned to read and never leave the house without one.

My favourite genres include fantasy (incl. lots of UF), PNR, thrillers, historical fiction, also M/M romance and classics. While I don't usually read other romance stuff, I do admit to having a weak spot for Nora Roberts. XD

I'm a newcomer to challenges, been wanting to try it out for a while now and finally went and searched for a challenge group on GR. :)

Hi, I'm Mary just joined this group because it looks like a lot of fun!! I live in kentuky. I guess my favorite genre would be UF and PNR. I also like reading historical romance here and there though. Just got into reading some dystopian and feel like that could quickly become a fav as well. Some of my fav authors are Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews, Richelle mead, Rachel Caine, and Karen Marie Moning(just to name a few lol). I'm a newbie to goodreads as well as challenges. So I'm looking foward to them as well as talking about books.:)

I'm new to challenges but I love reading so I thought joining a group dedicated to challenges will help me to discover lot of other book out there. I believe that my next new all time favourite book is just around the corner! So I'm excited to be here. :)

message 200: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello all! My name is Suzanne! I am from Georgia, USA. I don't really have a favorite genre...I'll read just about anything but sci-fi/fantasy and nonfiction. I just love books, basically, and have for as long as I can remember!!

I am definitely a challenge newbie, though! I did the GR 2011 challenge for the past couple of months, but nothing in a group, so I'm still really new to how this all works...but I'm excited to figure it all out and work my way up to doing more than just how many I can read in a year!
