Welcome to The Challenge Factory, Cay. We have kinds of challenges, so I hope you find one that appeals to you.

message 1802: by Jen (new)

Jen (book_worm23) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Jen. I think I actually joined this group several months ago, with the intention to do some book challenges, but then I got busy with life. I was traveling out of country for a few months, but I have finally settled back home, back in school, and back to work life. I'm from Alberta, Canada.
I'm still a bit new to reading challenges, I've done the Uno challenge on another group a couple of times but that is about it.
My favourite genre depends on my mood. I enjoy YA, Fantasy, SciFi, and Murder Mysteries, occasionally Fiction, and Classic literature. So basically anything based on my mood. I love to read!

Thereadingbell | 79 comments Hello, my name is Susanne but changed it on Goodreads because there are to many in groups. I enjoy challenges and belong to several groups. I am a retired disabled veteran and hold a Masters degree in Social Work. I love reading romance, mystery, historical fiction, fiction and I also read pretty much anything for challenges. I also enjoy diamond painting which keeps me busy.

message 1805: by Shelley (new)

Shelley I'm Shelley from Nebraska (US). I don't have a favorite genre, but enjoy non-fiction, historical fiction, some fantasy, some rom-com (heavy on the com, not the rom), mysteries . . . I'm more interested in the characters and the story line than the actual genre. I'm new to this group and am looking forward to trying out some fun challenges. You probably won't see me much through the end of this year, but I hope to get involved in January.

I'm Kate and I live in Melbourne, Australia with my partner and our 3yo daughter, Hope.

I'm new to challenges but am enjoying using it as a tool to get through my TBR bookshelf.
Thank you for having me and look forward to chatting with you in the future!

Thank you! Just a quick question... how do people keep track of the discussions they're participating in? Is there like a 'bookmark' or something?

message 1811: by ⚜️XAR (new)

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) Kate wrote: "Thank you! Just a quick question... how do people keep track of the discussions they're participating in? Is there like a 'bookmark' or something?"

There's not really a "bookmark" function on GoodReads, but you can bookmark the individual challenge pages on your personal computer. If you don't want to do that, you can make a thread in our Challenge/Reading Logs folder, located HERE with links to all the challenges you're participating in. If you want the link to point to your specific comment, right click on the date and time stamp of your comment and select "Copy Link Location", then paste that into your HTML code for your links (see the "(some html is ok)" link for how to create links in your comments).

Lilja (liljawolf) | 3 comments Hi! My name is Lilja. I live in Denmark (moved here from Berlin 8 years ago) I got two beautiful twingirls that keep me from reading quite a lot (yay for audiobooks though) I tried some challenges before. I really do like them but find it hard to stick with them sometimes 😅 Atm I read a lot non fiction and some sci fi books. Usually I also love fantasy. Browsing through the 2020 list of your challenges I wanted to try something new!

message 1818: by Jeanne (last edited Mar 03, 2020 07:59AM) (new)

Jeanne (oldemill) | 431 comments Hi, Im Jeanne and I am returning after a hiatus of about a year (man it didn't seem that long ago and yet it seemed like a lifetime).

♥You name? (what you would like to be called) Jeanne (pronounced "Jeannie")

♥Where are you from? I am currently living in Northern Michigan, but will be moving to Virginia near my son and grandchildren as soon as this house is sold.

♥Your favorite Genre? Cozy mysteries and thrillers

♥Are you a pro at challenges or a newcomer? I'd like to catagorize me as "nearly a pro" or "better than average".

♥Any thing else you would like to share! Yes. I spent nearly all of 2019 taking care of my husband. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009 so this has been a pretty long fight. Most of those years his quality of life was pretty good. We got to travel both domestically and internationally and enjoyed some wonderful cruises. But in December 2018/January of 2019 that came to an abrupt end. He had several serious incidents after that and things began to go downhill from there. By June of 2019 his doctors threw in the towel and he went on Hospice. He was in a great deal of pain, lost a lot of weight, couldn't eat, and there was not a lot that I could do to make things bearable for him. On October 4th of 2019, he drew his last breath and his pain was finally over. We had been married for 54 years and my whole life was turned upside down. I know there are many of you who have experienced the same thing. For that whole year I barely got to read a book. So, after weaving my way through all the final hurdles (social security, credit cards, cars, house, etc.), I am able to finally find some time to relax and read. I am so looking forward to this!

Welcome back, Jeanne. My mother passed away about 3 years ago. I cared for her for the last 5 1/2 months of her life. Goodreads was such a comfort. It kept me in touch with folks and gave me an outlet.

message 1820: by Robin (new)

Robin (rretzler) | 6 comments Hi, I'm Robin. I'm from Ohio, where I live with my husband, 18 yo son and soon to be 15 yo son.

I've loved to read since before I can remember! I read just about everything, but my favorites are British mysteries and dystopian science fiction. I read approximately 175 books per year - I have a feeling it will be less this year.

For the past 3 years, I've participated in tons of reading challenges - I'm doing 45+ this year. That sounds like a lot - and I suppose it is - but most of the challenges fit right into the books that I read - Ebook challenge, audiobook challenge, various mystery challenges, and various SciFi/Fanatasy challenges (thanks to Worlds Without End).

I do participate in a few "popular" challenges, like PopSugar and ReadHarder, but my philosophy towards those challenges is to read what I want to read and try to make it fit the challenge. Probably not the way the challenges were meant to play out, but it's fun for me to see how varied my reading is!

I just found this group and a couple more challenges that I think I'll participate in. I'm really looking forward to participating

message 1822: by Lori (new)

Lori Wilen | 313 comments Hi there I am Lori. Originally from England I am now a USA citizen currently living in Maryland.

I have been reading since I was 4 years old. The week after I learned English I was determined to teach myself to read. Nobody believed I could until I collected the newspaper when it was delivered and came down and read all the headlines.

I really liked to read Amish romance and cozy murder mysteries, plus general romance series. I have broadened my interests through buddy reading and I will now try anything from any genre.

I am new to challenges. This is my first using doing the Pop Sugar Challenge and also a Harry Potter challenge so I would say that I am a complete amateur.

One of my Goodreads friends belongs to this group. I took a look and thought by joining it and participating in other challenges along with my buddy reads I would accomplish my goals of completing Pop Sugar, Harry Potter and reading 75 books this year.

The PopSugar challenge is fun, I've done it myself in years past. Hopefully, you can find some interesting books to read in our Buddy Challenge!

message 1824: by DieAReader (new)

DieAReader I'm @SquidgetsRoom (Amanda). I'm 35 & live in Ontario, Canada. I'm happily married (8 years) to my best friend. We've been together for 20 years & are proud parents to Rosie. She is a 4 year old rescue cat that we adopted when she was 2-3 moths old.

I read mainly fiction but do enjoy autobiographies (so far the only audiobook genre that I can focus on) & some other non-fictions on occasion. I have been a member of both Goodreads & Litsy for a few years but challenges per se are fairly new to me. I love to read & therefore, Readathons have been a household favorite since I stumbled upon my first one (Dewey's) 4 years ago. I would happily to do little other than that for the remainder of my life if I could lol!

Welcome, Squidget! I love readathons myself...but usually can't do any shorter than the 24 in 48 readathon! I have done Dewey's a couple of times though! Challenges help me organize the Readathon TBRs, LOL! Hopefully you'll find something you enjoy!

I'm from England and I'm a tutor as well as a qualified child and adolescent counsellor. I love rock music!

I've loved reading since I can remember! I'm mostly only into fantasy (all kinds of fantasy!) and horror. I also like manga and reading Chinese and Japanese novels (Translated to English!) though I am learning Japanese and hopefully will be able to read a book in Japanese one day!

In all honesty I don't take part in reading challenges as Im an incredibly slow reader and I get annoyed at myself if I can't keep up but I do love games and puzzles!! I found this group through my Vampire Obsession group.

Kerri | 111 comments Hi everyone,
my name is Kerri and I'm from Brisbane Australia.
I'm an avid reader and will give all genres a go, but my favourite genre would be suspense/thriller. I usually have at least 2 books on the go, one I read the other an audio. I love challenges and this group is the first I've come across that holds audio challenges. I can't wait to get stuck into some of them next month. We are in the middle of Winter so it's a great time to snuggle up with a good book.

message 1832: by Lois (new)

Lois Lane Hi! I’m Lois, and I’m from the U.S. I’m one of those people who buys more books than she has time to read. My favorite genres include nonfiction (particularly history an politics), YA, and mystery. I enjoy doing challenges and probably take on more of those than I have time to finish.

message 1833: by Vibhor (new)

message 1835: by Oleander (new)

Oleander | 239 comments Hello everyone. I'm checking in from Texas and I'm ready to tackle my TBR and maybe finish some series. In the past I was terrible about wanting to sample EVERYTHING. It really looks like this group has some great motivational challenge ideas to keep me on track.

message 1836: by Carey (new)

Carey Hi! I'm Carey and I'm in Arkansas. I will read just about anything, but my first love is romance books. I've been reading a lot of indie romance. However, I've recently started watching a lot of booktube and have found several contemporary and fantasy books I'd like to try.

I love book challenges. They're what has gotten me out of my recent reading slump.

message 1837: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 1602 comments I came across the Dusty bookshelf Challenge last month and just had to join. So Hello Everyone!

♥You name? Michelle
♥Where are you from? Canastota, NY - 20 miles east of Syracuse
♥Your favorite Genre? Urban Fantasy & Post Apocalyptic/Zombie Fiction
♥Are you a pro at challenges or a newcomer? I've been doing challenges since about 2013. I'm a bit obsessed.
♥Any thing else you would like to share! I'm married, have 3 kids, and work part time. If I'm not reading I will be gardening, cooking, crafting, or doing genealogy.

message 1838: by Kelli (new)

Kelli ♥Your name? Kelli

♥Where are you from? Nova Scotia, Canada

♥Your favorite Genre? Pretty much anything that strikes my fancy, but my top 3 are YA, PNR, Urban Fantasy and I'm just starting to discover a love for Contemporary and Mystery/Thrillers

♥Are you a pro at challenges or a newcomer? I'm pretty much a newcomer but and participated in a few challenges in the past, sometimes I tend to get overwhelmed with challenges so I like to do challenges that are easy like Scavenger Hunts and the like.

♥Anything else you would like to share! I used to be a member of good reads years ago and then went a really long time not really reading anything so I got rid of my account. Now I'm feeling the itch to get back into reading so I thought a fresh start with a brand new account would be the perfect way to start

message 1839: by Lani (new)

Lani (bobblefish) | 5 comments ♥You name? (what you would like to be called)

I honestly don't even know. Sci-fi/fantasy as a kind of general direction. Also nonfiction re: social issues and memoirs

♥Are you a pro at challenges or a newcomer?
So very new.

♥Any thing else you would like to share!
I haven't read a lot in my adult life despite having the desire due to multiple reading difficulties. But with audiobooks, I've started to pick things up, and I want to just go as far as I can. I hope to find challenges that can push me to go in directions I may not otherwise choose

I have been participating for a few years now and regardless of your chosen book love you will find like-minded people! Lani - I especially want to encourage you. Audiobooks are amazing and open up a whole new world. Keep at it!!

message 1842: by Emma (new)

Emma | 169 comments Hi I’m Emma from London, UK. I love historical fiction, fantasy, some sci fi, historical mystery, police procedural, urban fantasy, dystopia, post apocalyptic, golden age crime, some horror.
I first did a pop sugar quiz a few years ago and finished it quite quickly. It never occurred to me that actually I could do many quizzes and simultaneously. I am currently doing challenges with ATY group, Historical mystery lovers, Reading challenges 2021 and Historical fictionistas. I like to have a range of monthly, quarterly, yearly and different themes for me to try.
You have some great challenges here and I’ve just started Doctor, Doctor!
I look forward to getting to know my fellow challenge lovers.

message 1843: by Lexi (new)

Lexi (lexi_liese) Hi, everyone! I’m Lex :) I’m from Iowa, USA. I love a little bit of everything, but my overall favorite books to read are mysteries/thrillers, especially police procedurals.

I participate in the PopSugar Reading Challenge each year and also participate in various challenges posted by The Lost Challenges. I’ve found that joining challenges helps me avoid reading the same 10 books I love over and over again, so I’ve become a bit of a challenge junkie. I’m just here to get my next hit. Lol

message 1844: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (amethystperhaps) | 106 comments Introduce yourself to the group and tell us a little bit about yourself☺ Let us know...

♥Your name? (what you would like to be called)
♥Where are you from?
♥Your favorite Genre?
♥Are you a pro at challenges or a newcomer?
♥Anything else you would like to share

Hey, y'all! I'm Suzanne, and I guess I should introduce myself since I joined TCF last month. I'm from Mississippi, USA, and yes, we do say "y'all" down here. lol I've lived here for only 25 years. That may seem long to some people, but hubby dearest (Steve) has lived here all his life. We're both going to be hitting the big SIX OH in six and seven months (me in December). Next year will be our 25th wedding anniversary. (And if anyone's wondering about the math there, we lived together for almost two years before we got married, the second time for both of us.)

My favorite genres are mystery and SFF, but I read just about anything so long as it's interesting. I don't care so much for politics or sports, but I'll read even those if they're intriguing enough. Romance is ok, though I like it better if it's a part of the story rather than the whole point (e.g., paranormal romance, romance in a mystery, etc). And I entirely avoid, "How the Left (Right, Conservatives, blah, blah, blah) Is Destroying America (or anywhere else)." I love learning about places all around the world.

Reading has been a life-long love of mine, ever since my parents read to me when I was still too little to understand all those squiggles in books. I guess I'm sort of a newcomer when it comes to reading challenges. I joined Goodreads back in 2013 and have done the annual reading challenge just about every year since then. I did the 2019 Summer challenge and have been disappointed GR hasn't had it again since then. It wasn't until a few months ago that I thought of actually looking around the web for other reading challenges and discovered several. Since then I've been gleefully joining as many as possible.

Guess I've rambled on long enough for now. Feel free to ask me questions about whatever. =)

I like challenges, but I'm new in them.

I have a husband and 2 dogs. And I LOVE reading 😁
I prever romance and cozy mysterys. And I also like children books. They have teach me a lot.

I was born and raised in North Carolina US, still here in the same ol' town lol. I don't really have a favorite genre per se, but I do love a Dystopian setting/lifestyle for sure. Barb I think I used to be part of this group a long time ago, and I see a lot of familiar names here, so thanks for letting me rejoin. I'm Barb from south-central Pennsylvania, mom to two grown kids and wife to a recently-retired civil engineer. Mysteries are my books of choice, but I'll read (almost) anything, especially if it's for a hard to fill challenge spot. Challenges are not new to me, so I'm eager to see what you offer here :)
