I got a question. If you enter monthly challenges, yearly challenges, mini challenges and so on. Trying to do a lot of different ones. Can you use the same book in several challenges, if it fits the goals of the challenge?

Trying to figure out exactly how many challenges I can take part in. Cause I want to read books and take part in challenges, but I don't want to stress thorugh books and not get time to truely enjoy them. Just because I need to finish several challenges each month. :)

Aleksandra (spalkiry) Hi :)!

I am LOVING the whole group! I guess I won't be making that many challenges in the near future, but I still like the idea so much and find it so interesting and exciting to finally come across people as keen on reading as yourselves!
Therefore a bit about me:

♥You name? (what you would like to be called)
My name is Aleksandra, you can call me either that or Alya (I know it's a bit strange to English-speakers, but that's what friends call me ;) ).

♥Where are you from?
I'm from Bulgaria, but I've been studying in Germany for 5 years now, I was in Sweden for 6 months and I am looking forward to going some place else, after finishing my master's.

♥Your favorite Genre?
ATM I'm focused on reading the "classics", although I mostly prefer books from the 20th century. During HS I read a whole load of fantasy, until I bought myself a few books from the most boring and awful fantasy series ever, and those made me give up the genre. Therefore the focus right now. But besides the "classics", I'm also into Baldacci, Grisham, Murakami and Hosseini to name a few.

♥Are you a pro at challenges or a newcomer?
Rather a newcomer. I'd already set up my own yearly Reading Challenge, before I was told of Goodreads, but all the challenges in the group are new to me.

♥Any thing else you would like to share!
I'm really excited about this whole thing, and you'll have to excuse my long-long-loooong posts - I am a person of many words :D. And I'd like to warn you - I'll definitely make some mistakes, since English is not my mother tongue, but I'll do my best :)!

xoxo, Alya

You can absolutely use the same books through out different challenges! The challenges are all supposed to be fun not to stress you out:)

That sounds good, I were starting to wonder how I would manage to do several different monthly and yearly challenges. At some point I would hit the max number of how many books i can read in one month.

Edward Creter (httpwwwedcoolcom) Hi. I'm Edward and I'm grateful to all at Goodreads who have encouraged me to read this past year. I understand there's a book called Tolstoy and the Purple Chair, where this girl reads 365 books in 365 days. I'd like to offer a friendly competition, if you will: I'd like a crack at the record: 400 books in a year! I only have time to read anyway, so that's in my favor, and tho' I can't guarantee success, I do promise to try. Let me know how to start a blog myself as I'm not very tech. Wish me well!

Thanks, Jennifer! I wish you well on whatever reading project you choose! How would you approach your 450? Me, I don't like to speed 'cos there's no pleasure in that? And would "kid's books" be okay?

Diana S | 310 comments Hi Everyone,

I'm Diana from Texas. I love all different kinds of genres. I didn't start doing reading challenges until this year when I joined Goodreads. I really like to read a lot.
I belong to 5 F2F Book Clubs (I'm moderator for 2).
When I read a book, I always celebrated it by doing something that reminds me of it.
For example, When I read The Last of the Mohicans. I went to a Pow Wow. After I read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan . I went to the Art Museum to see an exhibit of Chinese pottery, furniture, and apparel. It was so interesting to see the 3" to 4" shoes used after they bind their feet.

Katie Baker ♥You name? (what you would like to be called)
Hi I'm Katie-the oh so Fabulous-Baker, and most of the time I just go by Katie (or Kt) but I am not adverse to nick-names so call me what you will, I shant mind!

♥Where are you from?
I hail from the drab state of Ohio where the weather is sckizophernic(sp?) half the time, and there is nothing fun to do (except read of course)

♥Your favorite Genre?
-I hands down love Zombies, give me a zombie book and I shall be amused for days, in fact give me a zombie book and you will give me something to talk about for months.
That above statement pretty much includes anything in the horror department.
-I'm also fond of the romance genre and tend to lean more toward the M/m section of it because I read a lot of Het in my early years

♥Are you a pro at challenges or a newcomer?
I'm new to this Website and would appreciate any advice and or help I can get, and maybe and explanation about the whole challenge thing

♥Any thing else you would like to share!
I'm the most Awesome German Speaking Vegetarian you are likely ever to meet (It's not arrogence it's truth!)I love art, and all things shinny/glittery. I'm admitidly a flightly person (not in relationships though!) and I will jump from one subject to another at the slightest interest change which now means I know I little about a lot, and it comes in handy during trival pursuit :)

And on a final note it's my dream to move to Canada with my Iguana, and to live near Montreal(Sp?)and spend the rest of my life doing various out-door, sport like activities.

Cindy (cynx) Welcome to the group!! =)

Turtlecollector Dennis My name is Kirsten and I live in Oregon.

I have loved reading my whole life. I have recently expanded my horizons on genre, but still lean toward mystery, romantic suspense and thrillers.

I am new to Goodreads and challenges. However, this year I have challenged myself to see how many books I can read from the list in the book '1001 Children's Books to Read Before You Grow Up' and, for another contest in Portland, how many books and pages I could read in a year. So far, as of the end of September, I have read 504 books total, 269 childrens books and 105,649 pages.

I am looking forward to trying some of these challenges.(and figuring out how to post things online)

message 118: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) | 205 comments Hey y'all!!!! I'm Zakiya, and I'm from Tennessee if you couldn't tell already :). My favorite genres are PNR, Historical Fiction (esp. those that are classics!), and Realistic YA (like Hate List).

I'm not sure if I would consider myself a challenge pro or a newcomer. I'm pretty experienced with them, but I usually don't finish them.. My goal for 2012 is to finish all the challenges I start.

If there's anything else y'all wanna know, don't be afraid to ask! :D

message 119: by Deborah (new)

Deborah I'm Deborah, I live in Oregon.

Love books and believe I read too much. I read a lot of Young Adult, Urban Fantasy, and Mysteries.

I'm experienced with challenges, but wouldn't call myself a pro. I like that this group allows you to pick a level.

Rachael C. (norcalbibliophile) | 56 comments Hello everyone! I'm a lawyer in San Francisco with a new baby boy so I don't have a lot of time to read, but I make sure I find time each day - usually on my commute into the city. I think this group is a great idea and I'm looking forward to participating.

Nichole ~~The Grey Lady~~ (wizardsheart) My name is Nichole. I have been on Goodreads for awhile, but have only just started to discover the book groups. I am also new to challenges. I have done some in groups on yahoo. I am really excited to say that I just completed my reading challenge! I had a baby in Feb and have a 2 year old....I also work full time. So my goal was to try and read a book a week. (52). I did it! Already!! I am real excited about it. I cant wait to start working on challenges.

I love a lot of different genres. I read historical fiction, historical mystery, fantasy/sci-fi, thrillers, urban fantasy, steampunk....honestly nothing is out of bounds here. Although lately I have been in a real strong fantasy/sci-fi/urban fantasy mode.

As if my time isnt already spread impossibly thin...November is National Novel Writing Month! Which I hope to participate in again this year. It will be my third year and I am 1-1. (finished one year, but not the other.) I am really determined to finish again this year!

I'm new to challenges. I haven't done one yet. I'm just worried that i'll forget that i'm in a challenge or decide that I don't wanna read the books I listed
at the moment and miss out on the challenge. I guess I'll give it a try and see what happens. :D

message 129: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Hi Joanne, Welcome to the group. The challenge lists are never set in stone. You can always change the books (unless it's one of those really strict ones - but I don't think we have any of those up atm). Have fun with it!

message 134: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, I'm Dani and I'm from Oregon. My favorite genre...I don't know! I mainly read fiction of any sort but I suppose they normally tend towards realistic fiction. Doesn't stop me from reading Harry Potter or memoirs though.
Other than the 2011 reading challenge I've never done any book challenges per se. I've done craft challenges though. Thus, newcomer to reading challenges but old hand at challenges in general? Yeah...something like that.
I can see myself easily getting overwhelmed with choices here! This group sure seems to make it easy to have fun, I can't wait!

message 137: by Danie (new)

Danie (heyydanie) Hey everyone! I'm Danielle, but please, call me Danie. I'm from New York, but currently living in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but that can change whenever - ah, the life of a military wife (well, not really wife, but fiancee). My favorite genre is dystopian, particularly YA, but honestly I'll read just about anything, with the exception of biographies. I just can't get interested.

I'm not necessarily a pro at challenges but I'm not a newcomer. I'm somewhere in between.

Let's see, other random stuff. I'm a full-time nanny, and a full-time balloon artist. Yes, like a clown, no, I don't dress up as one. No, not even the nose. I do birthday parties, work in restaurants, and so on and so forth. I have quite possibly the clumsiest kitten on the face of the planet. No, seriously. She just ran face first into our sliding glass door.

I can't really think of anything else to say, so I'm going to go check out the challenges!

Ouroboros | 13 comments Hello everyone. My name is Ketty and I live in New York. I love reading and spend quite a bit of time goodreads! I love horror, sci-fi, fantasy, YA, urban fantasy, graphic novels--anything that's good. At the moment I'm engrossed in the world of George R.R. Martin.

This year was my first time participating in a reading challenge, and now I'm hungry for more!

I look forward to getting to know others and trying my hand at a few challenges.

Rachael C. (norcalbibliophile) | 56 comments So ever since I signed up for this group and introduced myself a week ago, I have been browsing through all the challenge posts and really excited about creating a challenge for myself. However, it has been almost impossible trying to figure out which challenge to start with. I guess I'm just completely overwhelmed! Please, does anyone have any suggestions on which challenge I should start with?

message 150: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments How about starting off with one of the mini challenges? Is your TBR pile huge? If it is you could try the Bottom's Up Mini Challenge. Go with the easy level and ease yourself into it. Or, try one of the longer yearly challenges. They're more flexible and give you plenty of time to work on it. If you like variety in your reading, I would go with the Alphabet Challenge or 100 Book Genre Challenge. Or, if you want something fun, try the Location, Location, Location challenge. It will give you the flexibility of different levels and can be used with all genres. Hope that helps a little! ☺
