How do I find out whether two authors are the same?

Sometimes I come across authors that are too similar to be a coincidence, like:

Both of them are listed as authors for http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22... but all their other books are unique. So, how do I find out whether two authors are the same?

From what I can tell, Gay Brewer is an expert on golf swings, and Gaylord Brewer is a poet and professor of literature. It looks like some of Gaylord's books are mistakenly under Gay Brewer. Normally I would look at a more official site like Worldcat rather than Amazon, but in this case Amazon has an author page for Gaylord Brewer so it was easier just to look there.

Although it does seem that Gaylord goes by both names, and some of his covers call him Gay.
