As some of you already know, we're having Tad Williams on the show tomorrow night! Let us know if you have any questions for him!

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments What book would he suggest a Tad Williams virgin start with?

Sean O'Hara (seanohara) | 2365 comments Veronica loves your books. I am not Veronica. Will I love your books?

Tamahome | 7230 comments How do you decide how long a book will be? Do publishers pressure you to make it longer?

I like this question! I second it.

Never having read any of his books, what does he think influcences his writing (other authors, other works, etc)?

Does he plan out his books and series? Or do they end up taking on a life of their own, as so many other fantasy authors have said?

Officer_Friendly | 17 comments What kind of feedback has Williams received from the Shakespeare types after the release of Calibans hour? What kind of permission did he need from the estate to write the novel?

Mach | 46 comments I was wondering why Simon in The Dragonbone Chair seems so dimwitted in the beginning?

message 8: by Skip (new)

Skip | 517 comments What was it like to hit 400?

On a more serious note, I would like to know what he likes to read outside the genre.

Jim (kskryptonian) | 202 comments Why cats? Because of Tad and Tailchaser's song, I and my wife now own three cats and foster three more (they're on petfinder in Leavenworth, KS as Streaky, Missy and Lucy Fur). I wouldn't be a crazy cat person if it weren't for Tad. So why cats, and were there more volumes I missed or did he only want one book. Does he know about Warriors from scholastic, as they are almost identical? Seriously, cats?

Mach | 46 comments What is the best epic fantasy book you have read recently?

message 11: by Kris (new)

Kris (kvolk) How do you plot out the big multi volume stories?

Bill H | 8 comments Jenny wrote: "What book would he suggest a Tad Williams virgin start with?" Jenny, YOU might very well enjoy his Otherland tetralogy. I surely did. You'd probably finish it in a long weekend :P

I do have this on my long to-read list, at #74. I think I added it because it was less fantasyish, but he never mentioned it, hmm....

Ryan (sweeneyowns) | 43 comments The War of Flowers is probably my favorite Tad Williams. I absolutely loved it, and its a single stand alone novel. The Memory Sorrow Thorn series is also very good.

I am a person who likes long books and long series, unfortunately while I mostly enjoyed first books in the otherland series and shadowmarch series I really feel like they were too long and that there could definately have been cuts and edits. While the stories were engaging and ideas interesting the books were too much of a drag for me and I did not continue the series. Books can be long but should not be long just to be long, and I think this happened and a result those books while good were not as good as they should have been. Perhaps this was just in the setup of the series. What do other people think of those series, do any one else think they could have used a bit of cutting?

Im looking forward to his future works though.

Andrew (adrew) | 426 comments So bummed I missed this thread. Been so tied up lately that I hadn't had a chance to check in the last couple of days. Still it was great to hear from Tad, and I'm looking forward to his new series when it comes out. Intrigued by the heaven/hell, angle/daemons meets noir spin he described.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments You need to follow Veronica, Tom, and Swordandlaser on Twitter. That's where the news hits first.

You mean I need to check twitter :) - already follow them both, though good tip.

Yeah... for some reason this is the most difficult social networking thing for me to keep up with. I'm trying harder lately but who knows how long that will last (@jennyquotes).

Tamahome | 7230 comments You'll never figure out Tom's twitter account though.

I struggle with all of them. G+, FB, Twitter.. I'm just happy when I clean out my email personally :)

Tamahome wrote: "You'll never figure out Tom's twitter account though."

True. Though I think Tom has mentioned it enough places for one to track it down ;) ... out of interest where does it come from? I believe he explained the genesis at one time, but I can't recall.

The first 2 books of Otherland were all about world building where as the second 2 were more about character building. I thought the last 2 could have done with some editing as they did have some long drawn out sections. Still very enjoyable in my opinion though.
If you though the first book needed some editing, then you would absolutely hate books 3 and 4.

I love Dick's "O..K.. I'll never ask that again".. haha. Thanks Tom. Some of my handles evolved in similar ways (dropped letters because already taken etc.)
