[Coco] EPIC FAIL ENDING OF HARRY POTTER! Why, WHY would jk rowling end it like that?! Everything turns out all happy, everyone gets married, has kids, and brings them to Hogwarts, which somehow still lives on.... tell me ur opinion about the ending.

Lynn Hubbard epilogue was way too tidy, but I hated the movie ending. Why did Harry destroy the wand? Why the heck didn't he repairo Hogwarts first?

Emma You know, I thought the ending to the last book was quite cheesy as well, at first. And then I read it again, and I realized that she couldn't have done it much better. Yes, the names were a little gag-worthy, but she had always used names that symbolized something. (I'm serious, look up every name she has ever used and it will have some sort of connection to their character.) Therefore, she had Harry do the same, just less subtley. I mean, what else could have happend? Everyone that was going to die had already done so in the Final Battle. So there was nothing left but to tie it all together in a way that made her fans happy, as well as her own self. I mean, how would you have felt, writing the end of the book that consumed such a large part of your life? Wouldn't you feel like you owed your worn out, beaten down, triumphant characters, at the very least, a happy ending?

And yeah, the movie version sucked. The CGI was so horrible I can't even think about it. And yes, Harry Potter is now going to flit around the Wizarding World without a wand. Because THAT makes sense. >:/

No, no, no, no. Harry has a wand. Read the last chapter again. He won Draco's real wand in their duel in Malfoy Mansion - Draco's the one flitting wandless in magicland now.
Draco had also won Dumbledore's wand by disarming him, but that wand never fell into Draco's hand. So even after Harry destroys the elder wand, he still has Draco's wand which is now loyal to him. It feels more comfortable to him than Belatrix's wand, which Hermione had won, and so is the closest substitute to his phoenix feathered one that he can get.

I support his breaking of the wand - it was too damned dangerous. He gets to live a normal life after that.

What I do complain about is that we never find out if Harry became an Auror like he wanted to, or what he did finally do with his life. The last chapter was bland, yes, but like Emma says, Rowling owed herself a wrap-up that gave all living characters a happy ending.

The movie ending, though....jeez! Did they have to dress up a bunch of teenagers as middle-aged people? Lord, they looked so damned stupid!! Who's idea was that? After that great 'dragon in flight' scene, how could anyoene have ended the movie with awful make-up work like that? Eeeaaargh. It was creepy.
They could have found other mature actors to do that last scene, what was the point of doing what they did? Everyone looked liked juveniles posing as their parents in a low-budget high-scool drama.

Chelsea Clifton Honour wrote: "Emma wrote: "You know, I thought the ending to the last book was quite cheesy as well, at first. And then I read it again, and I realized that she couldn't have done it much better. Yes, the name..."

I think what Emma meant is that in the movie, Harry breaks the Eldar wand before repairing his own, as he did in the book. The movie makes it seem like he owns two broken wands. (Sorry if I assumed wrong, Emma)

Gretchen @ Honour, please now "middle aged!" Harry by the end of the book he is 18 add an additional 19 years, at 37 they are hardly middle aged!

Chelsea Clifton BUT the movie made them LOOK middle-aged. Seriously? Ron balding and fat, Harry all gray haired and starting to get wrinkles? They aged them far too much.

Gretchen Chelseabelle wrote: "BUT the movie made them LOOK middle-aged. Seriously? Ron balding and fat, Harry all gray haired and starting to get wrinkles? They aged them far too much."

Agreed, yes that they did.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) It was just creepy..I mean Hermonie stayed the same age!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Gretchen Lea wrote: "It was just creepy..I mean Hermonie stayed the same age!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..."

Well she was a very powerful witch. Must have some special potions for that.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) yeah but Ginny looked older than her!

Gretchen Hermione is probably stashing the secret and not sharing with her sister in law : )

Marina Fontaine I liked the book ending. Harry not wanting to keep the wand made sense, but I liked that he used it to repair his old one (he didn't in the movie). The epilogue was OK in the "life goes on" way. It was necessary to show that Hogwarts got rebuilt and the new generation of wizards is being brought up now without the threat of Voldemort. I liked the hopeful feel of it after all the darkness of the last book.

Jacquel The Epilogue sucks. I mean, come on! You expect me to LIKE this pile of crap?

Small wonder why I gave up on the series.

message 15: by AMythicalBeast (new)

AMythicalBeast @Gretchen: Sorry. :D You're quite right that in the book they were in their thirties and that's not middle aged at all. But as Chelseabelle points out, in the movie they looked awful!! Especially Ron and Ginny. Why? I just don't understand how they could have allowed that scene to pass through final editing.

@Chelseabelle: Right. Harry fixed his own wand in the book with the elder wand (I had forgotten that) -the movie left a lot of stuff like that unexplained, as if they expected all the movie goers to have read all the books. That's kinda optimistic of them.

Christina I honestly think that no matter how JKR had written the epilogue, people would have complained. I'm not sure I would have liked any scenario completely, to be honest. But that probably has more to do with the fact that I never wanted it to end than anything...
The epilogue was a bit cheesy, but it's nice to know that they all actually had some happiness and peace in their lives.
I also agree with what someone said that maybe JKR did it for herself. I mean, a lot of us see the Harry Potter characters as, like, our family. I know that sounds ridiculously sad, but we become very attached to them. The way we feel about those characters must pale in comparison to the way JKR feels about them, though. Maybe she wanted to know for herself that things were all well with them.
And it's not exactly sunshine and rainbows. Loads and loads of people died in that last book.
Also, @Honour, we do find out a lot about the post-Deathly Hallows Potterverse. She has released a lot of information. I recommend this blog, they have pretty much all of the facts that have been released by JKR in one place.

It is funny, though. Like, all of the exciting things that were going to happen to them happened in those seven years of school.

I just wish JKR would write a series about the next generation or something, although we all know that's never going to happen...

AMythicalBeast Thanks, Christina! That's a great blog.

Christina naww, my picture disappeared :(

Christina oh, and you're welcome :)

Rachel Yep, it was a little too cheesy and convenient to have them all married off and with kids. But you have to remember that it's first and foremost a children's book and there's nothing wrong with a happily ever after ending!

Valerie A little cheesy, but I liked it! It was a perfect ending all in all!

Elena Everything turns out all happy? HALF THE CAST IS DEAD! you call that happy? o.o

Shélah Epilogues are what authors use when they can't find a proper way to end their books. They are almost always cop-outs, and this was the worst one I've ever read. Given all of the extra information Rowling has made available over the years, it was completely unnecessary and detracted from the series as a whole. In the film, it was frankly the funniest thing I've ever seen and everyone there laughed hysterically.

Lindsay Nichols I felt that the epilogue was a little demeaning.

Why couldn't JK just have left everything finished at the last chapter and let her readers imagine in their heads where all the characters ended up. Really, we all pretty much assumed that Ron and Hermione would end up together and Harry and Ginny, do we all need it spelled out in black and white?

Sandy I was fine with it. It wasn't a great ending but it had a hopeful feel and it showed that despite all the terrible things the characters went through in their childhood it resulted in a happy future for their adult selves and their children. And maybe she tied the series up neatly so that she wouldn't feel so tempted to actually write another book.

Anna L-R I liked the epilogue of the book. Yes, maybe it was a little cheesy, but come on now. After a crazy series like that, J.K. Rowling had every right to give it a happy ending.

Way to sum up my exact feelings, Sandy!

i was just pissed at the end how Harry snapped the wand, wen in the book he used it to fix his own wand... and also at another point... Fred's death...he was sposed to b joking and smiling with Percy and Ron and die with a smile on his face but he doesnt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just keep in mind that the movie and the book are supposed to be two different things. It's like the separation of church and state. But, yeah, I'm not a fan, but the last movie sucked. I'm not even going to get into why, but it did. Also, I read every book and the ending in the book wasn't all that. People loved the world and JK Rowlings imagination but that doesn't give it an ending. The ending was never there, people. Accept it.

message 29: by Lynn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lynn Hubbard I would rather she left off the epilogue all together, I would rather use my imagination.

message 30: by J.D. (new) - rated it 5 stars

J.D. Field I think the ending was kind of lame, to go all small town and happy family after so much grandness and adventure. I think one or two of the characters should be still a bit scarred, or haunted, or a massive bigshot maybe...

Julie I was very disappointed with the book ending. I thought at the time that maybe J.K.R. was tired of writing it and just wanted there to be no room for another book. You know how we fans can be, relentless, and if she left any loop holes we would all be speculating on what does that mean? or maybe she just was tired and thought she would wrap it all up in a nice little bow. Either way, I hated the ending. to quote someone from earlier..."How Lame"

message 32: by U.L. (new) - rated it 3 stars

U.L. Harper I'm telling you guys, the big shocker to me was that she obviously had no real ending in mind. I really doubt that at the end of book three she was thinking, man, I can't wait to write that satisfying epilogue. No, sir. She had no idea who was going to die and live. She had no clue, I tell you!

Alya Emma wrote "You know, I thought the ending to the last book was quite cheesy as well, at first. And then I read it again, and I realized that she couldn't have done it much better. I agree with what she says..she is connected to the characters so she can't just kill them!

but the movie version did suck! and i hate how Fred died looking horrified.... he should have been smiling!!!!

message 34: by U.L. (new) - rated it 3 stars

U.L. Harper I can't say it enough. She did not have an ending in mind. Ask yourself why she killed Snape. Really, how did that help the story? Really.

Alya truee, i love snape! <3 but still....the ending ending was still okay :)

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) Well..I liked it although many epiloigue's are like that..the name thing was a bit too much..I mean I liked it but...

message 37: by J.D. (new) - rated it 5 stars

J.D. Field I didn't want it to be happily ever after. Thats dull.
I'd like a bit happy, but actually there are quite a lot of giants around at the moment, or whatever.

Kelrec Lynn Hubbard wrote: "epilogue was way too tidy, but I hated the movie ending. Why did Harry destroy the wand? Why the heck didn't he repairo Hogwarts first?"

lol, true!

❀ Sariah ❀ I just, well, don't know. The epilogue was pretty soothing after J.K. Rowling killed off all the best characters (except for the three main characters, obviously).
P.S. In the movie, Hermione's daughter is ADORABLE!!!!!!

❀ Sariah ❀ After message 33, I realized (lightbulb): OH YEAH!!!! Harry dosen't even have a wand!! Now how does that make sense?? :/

Marina Fontaine Sariah wrote: "After message 33, I realized (lightbulb): OH YEAH!!!! Harry dosen't even have a wand!! Now how does that make sense?? :/"

LOL that's what happens when they convert books to movies. Things fall out and stop making sense. I actually loved that Harry was able to restore his old wand in the book. They've been through so much together, it was almost a character in itself, and the movie FORGETS to have it fixed? What?

Kelrec Sara wrote: "I like the epilogue but the kid with the name dumbledore severus potter i feel bad for him haha... what a name ;)"

i felt the same!

Emma Sara wrote: "I like the epilogue but the kid with the name dumbledore severus potter i feel bad for him haha... what a name ;)"

Just to clarify, his name is actually Albus Severus Potter, not Dumbledore.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked the book's ending, but the movie seemed really cheesy. It looked like they were playing dress up in molly and daddy's clothes.. it was just stupid.

As for the elder wand, Harry didn't trust himself with its power and even if he did use responsibly eventually he would die and the wand would go to someone else. Something that powerful should have never been created. Its to dangerous and Harry knew that.

BubblesTheMonkey I thought the ending was OK. What would you have wanted to happen, anyways?

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

I guess it was kinda too happy, but I liked it.

Marina Fontaine Heaven wrote: "I liked the book's ending, but the movie seemed really cheesy. It looked like they were playing dress up in molly and daddy's clothes.. it was just stupid.

I didn't mind Harry not keeping the elder wand. I DID mind in the movie that he didn't use it to fix his old one.

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

Shelby wrote: "Yeah. I agree with you. He made the right choice by not keeping the wand, but in the movie he now has NO wand."

He has Draco's other wand. When he disarmed Draco both wands became his.

Marina Fontaine That's not the point. It was "his" wand and he should have fixed it and kept it for life. Which he did in the book, and I thought it was perfect.
