No Spoilers here please

(A spoiler is something about the plot that might spoil the story for someone who hasn't got quite as far as you)

Jacquie | 99 comments Thanks Geoff for choosing this book. I had not read a Tom Sharpe book for fifteen years and had forgotten how funny a writer he is. Have now added Wilt to my very long tbr list.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Exactly Jacquie, I did that yesterday.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments I'm glad you both enjoyed it. I re-read it before recommending it and it still gets me laughing out loud in places.

I suspect I'm going to be refreshing my love of Mr Sharpe's work.

Freddiesmum | 137 comments Ahh Wilt....I just love Wilt!!

Have now read The Throwback, which I enjoyed, but it didnt grab me as well as Wilt and Blot do. However, there is something so dastardly about The Bastard....it was a very good read. In work at mo, will do a 'proper' write up tonight!!

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Initially I was having some difficulty with the author's style of writing but then Wham!.What a rollercoaster ride he took me on,he left me in turn breathless at the pace of the plot, senseless with laughter and by the end totally in awe of his skill. Thank you for introducing me to this genius Geoff.

My pleasure Sarah. You should try some of his other books, they are much the same style. Wilt is very good and Porterhouse Blue is wonderful, if only for the Zipster incident. BTW a Porterhouse Blue is a heart attack induced by the college food. The college is more known by its culinary excellence than its quality of graduate.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Porterhouse Blue is one of my favourites too Geoff. I loved the mysterious character of Blott too.

message 9: by Andre Jute (new)

Andre Jute (andrejute) | 281 comments I just want to put in a word for The Great Pursuit, which is the funniest book about a literary agent ever written. The scene where the publisher's runaway wife becomes a prophet of a fundie sect in America's Deep South because she doesn't die when the rattlesnakes strike into her silicon breasts always has me rolling helplessly on the floor. Leaves Elmer Gantry for dead...

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments These recommendations are really helpful, thank you.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I've never read anything like this before, i was constantly going from liking the characters to not liking them, from being disgusted to laughing out loud. It was a constant internal struggle but it was great! I still can't believe they got away with everything.

Was a very good choice Geoff and I never would have read this in a million years if it wasnt for you (and this site) so thanks :o) maybe one day i'll get round to reading some of his other books.
