Hello, I'm Ruth Ford Elward from Colorado and I'm a published author.. I've been a fan of mysteries since I was a child. I like this genre because the pace is fast and the hero has to be more resourceful than the villain. If ever I could have dinner with a detective, I would love to invite Sherlock Holmes (I'd settle for Benedict Cumberbatch) and together, we would concoct the most thrilling mystery ever written.

Hi, welcome to all the new readers :)
Iʻm Anna; I founded this group a few years back.
Pardon for my absence for the last few months - itʻs been some "real life" rough time. Cultural and language deprivation, other stress... and recently also stupid eye issues + needing to focus on other issues (like learning better braille reading and writing skills).
But the itch to read more crime is back - so more Nesbo type reads - and a huge pile of printed books in the house (and a library card - yay) = letʻs see what reads will work next. :)

My name is Jo-Ann Carson. I live on the west coast of Canada and I have always loved mysteries in all forms. Domestic thrillers really excite me too.
I'm happy to be part of this group. I can tell by some of the posts that you are well read and will give me some great ideas for my tbr pile. Right now my favorites are: Barry Eisler, Harlan Coben, Toni Anderson (Barkley Sound Series) and Joseph Finder. The last thriller to knock my socks off was Suspicion.
I read when ever I can. Ditto review. I've belonged to Goodreads for awhile.

Well. For all things espionage--gentle reminder here that I host three spy-fiction readers groups elsewhere on Goodreads:

https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

And another reminder for any new member joining the group: if you're also an author, get in touch with me so we can make the most of that.

If Alan Furst had started his career when Goodreads was around, he would probably be in these groups of ours, picking up ideas. New writers keep these genres thriving. John leCarre tok over from Ian Fleming--and Clive Cussler and David Morrell took over the thriller genre when Frederick Forsyth started slowing down. Nowadays everyone talks about Furst and Olen Steinhauer ...its the way it always goes. Its how the dialog remains relevant; and that dialog about the craft will spawn the next writer after Furst to make their splash.

Marian Phair (marianphairauthor) | 12 comments Hi everyone. My name is Marian Phair. I'm English; a published author, and I write Crime Thriller/Mystery.
Sorry for the delay in engaging with the group, but I'm busy writing the sequel to my last novel, 'The Devil Came to Abbeville.'

All my titles are set upon Greek Islands.

Vaseem Khan (vaseemkhan) | 5 comments Hi all

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am an author and avid cosy crime reader (the No 1 Ladies Detective agency series is my favourite). As an author I write a light-hearted crime series set in India and featuring a baby elephant. The first book in my series The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra is a Times Saturday bestseller, Waterstones Book Club selection and Amazon Best Debut pick. I've posted further details in the Authors Promo section for anyone interested. From this group I'd love recommendations for other cosy crime series that I haven't yet discovered!

Thanks, Thomas. I love the way Alexander McCall Smith creates an atmosphere of what I call 'serious fun' in No 1 Ladies. And Precious is such a charming and wonderful heroine. At any rate, if u like the series u may at some point wish to check out one of my books as my publisher Hodder positioned them as being "For fans of the No. Ladies detective agency series". Most who have read them seem to agree, judging from feedback Ive received. Wish you all the best :)

Steven Moore Hello everyone!
Just joined. I'm an author, but first and foremost a reader. I write mysteries, thrillers, and sci-fi, but I read most anything, including non-fiction. My favorite mystery is The Naked Sun by Isaac Asimov--yes, it's sci-fi, but it's also a mystery! I like most British mysteries and one of my recent books is an homage to Agatha Christie.
In libris libertas!

message 335: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennymilchman) | 1 comments Hi everyone! I'm a new member, a reader first and an author second, chronologically speaking :) The first true mystery I remember reading--after all the Nancy Drews and Trixie Beldens, natch--is Doris Miles Disney's WINIFRED. This book still has the best last line of any I've ever read.

I write mystery/thriller blends, with an emphasis on the suspense. I'm interested in the mystery of small town life, especially...how we imbue a place with drama, then become its victims and its victors.

Look forward to getting to know you all!

Jenny

Colin Lloyd | 1 comments Hi Anna,

Thanks for the welcome to the group. I'm still rather new to Goodreads so I'm finding my feet. I'm a writer of non-fiction newsletters about macroeconomics but I've nearly finished writing my first work of fiction, a financial thriller. Now that might raise some eyebrows, my wife tells me 'financial thriller' is an oxymoron.

Anyway, for the present I'm a reader... of Thrillers, Crime, historical fiction (but usually with s crime type theme).

Thanks for accepting me to the group. I'll be a little coy until I get a sense of the way you guys interact.

Cheers,
Col

Raistlin Skelley | 3 comments Hello everyone,

My name is Raistlin Skelley, I'm a neo-noir crime writer from Southwestern Pennsylvania. Most of my favorite writers are dead and every book I read makes me think I'm less and less well read. I have self-published a few books but that's a separate matter. I'm also brand new to Goodreads and kind of feel like I'm on a spaceship. Thank you for using a Buster Keaton gif. And thank you for having me.

Before becoming an author, I spent twenty-five years in national security both in uniform with the US Marine Corps and then at the CIA as a paramilitary officer. I currently reside in Southern California but have lived all over the country and the world, with New England, Portugal, and France conjuring the fondest memories, Moscow was it’s own unique land while Iraq and Afghanistan are from another life. I’m looking forward to chatting with everyone in the discussion groups and getting to know you. Cheers, Adam

D. H. McKee (zuckervati) | 2 comments I'm Dave. Always looking for new friends on Goodreads. I'm a writer and artist from Canada (near Toronto). I love reading crime/mystery/thriller, sci-fi, and horror. Fantasy too.
I've read most of the Scandinavian crime fiction genre (Martin Beck, especially), and it reminds me a lot of how Canadian crime fiction reads. Something about the isolation, the cold winters, the quirky people. Canadian fiction adds some self-deprectation and culture influence from the U.S.A.

Mitch | 1 comments I'm harboured up in the Welsh Valleys. I work outdoors, mostly on farms, walling, fencing, and general repair work. I was a focused on my rugby, but a knee injury has put me on the sidelines for good. In the off-seasons, when finance allowed, I took to the mountains: mostly Asia and the Himalayas. I took to reading whilst recovering from my surgery. It's becoming a big thing. As one door closes, another door opens.

I'm a surveyor, I own a sea kayak, live within a stone's throw of the briny and luckily work in coastal surveying.
