Félix (habitseven) It's not over. Fortunately, we are a nation of laws and not a nation of testicles.

Sad but true.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments Did you read the article? It's not about testicles; it's about a judge making a student who planned to blow up a plane answer for his actions. A man with a bomb in his underwear had good intentions?

I did read it. It's about a judge ruling that the defendant's statements are admissible in court although he wasn't read his Miranda rights. No one would claim he had good intentions. It sure looks like he was planning to blow up a plane. I don't know if the judge made the right call, but suspects ought to be read Miranda rights. How hard is it to read a suspect his Miranda rights? It's not that hard. On COPS, it takes about 15 seconds.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments You have what you believe is a terrorist trying to blow up a plane. You've found a BOMB in his underwear. You don't know if he has accomplices, and you're trying to find out if he does so you can save lives. At this point, do you advise him to call a lawyer?

Well, either you do or you don't. If you don't, you're gambling that what happened here will happen - that a judge will allow for a national security exception to the Miranda rule. Maybe not every judge would have ruled that way, and maybe another judge would have disallowed his incriminating statements.
