This question is multi-part.

1. Do you ever get tired of reading about dangerous heroes? What do you read then?

2. Is there a hero that was just too much for you? Who and why?

Michelle(Chelle) aka Nightshade - Cake Whisperer (michmag) Hi Lady D great discussion.

For part one I would have to give an emphatic NO. I love me some dangerous heroes all the time. I do read other things but not because I am sick of the dangerous heroes in my life. When I want to switch it up though I like to read Murder/Mystery like Kathy Reichs or Elizabeth George.

Part two: The only one that I can think of was Vishous from BDB (ladies don't start sending me hate mail)I can't pinpoint why but he was my least favorite Brother.

I agree Michelle, Danielle this is a great discussion.

1. No, I don't get tired of reading about dangerous heroes. I have fun writing about them.

2. I haven't came across one yet.

A book away from an episode of hoarders (fidgit77) | 3 comments 1. No but, I do occasionally run into books that don't have them.

2. Not yet.

t'irla ~The Bookslayer~ aka Barbara (tirla) oh...I just can't picture life without a Dangerous Hero...*sigh*..however there is always the dangerous heroine :)

Too much hero...NEVER! LOL

Roshio | 26 comments 1. Tired? Never! as long as he is truly a Dangerous Hero!

2. Funny I should come across this cause I was just thinking that exact thing. I'm currently reading Dragon Bound and Dragos is a bit too possessive. Its a tad weird. But he sure is dangerous (in a good way).

❤️ Dorsey aka Wrath Lover Reviews ❤️ 1. NEVER get tired of a dangerous hero....sigh, nice to be in fantasy land for awhile ya know? If I get tired of reading them then I will just switch (for alittle while) different genre like Susan Mallery etc...

2. None come to mind right now.....

I'm like Dorsey - I'll switch to something else like Susan Mallery when I need a Dangerous hero breather. :)

And no, not met one with danger-overkill so far

message 11: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Nope, never get tired of my dangerous heroes.
The only one that was too much for me was Nicolai in Lord of the Vampires. The guy was on the verge of being an illiterate neanderthal ... how many times can one guy growl "MINE!"

--No. I never get tired of them. I like to read around so I don't get bored, but it's not to avoid the DHs. I just like to find them in all sorts of genres!

2. Is there a hero that was just too much for you? Who and why?

--Some of Linda Howard's heroes are too much for me. They are very sexually pushy (in an offputting way for me) and sometimes disrepectful of the heroine. I hated Gray in After the Night. And the jerk hero in A Lady of the West hauled off and smacked the pregnant heroine. That was way too much for me.

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) | 181 comments Good question. It caught my eye because I just finished a book (actually ending of a series) where I wasn't so sure I liked the hero by the end. I love me some bad heroes. I like them growly and tormented yet super-confident. However, I thought Barrons in Shadowfever was beginning to annoy me. I like that chest-thumping possessiveness but I want the sex to be more than just clothes-ripping, animalistic mating at some point too.

I think the key in writing a believable, lovable dangerous hero is showing how hard/edgy he is and how he is capable of love and tenderness. It doesn't have to be sappy to show loving for the heroine and his family figures.

Like Lady D I don't get tired of them but I do occasionally like a sweet beta. Many times you don't really know what you're getting until you start reading.

2. Is there a hero that was just too much for you? Who and why?
Definitely Gray. A few of Catherine Coulter's heroes made me mad. I've read some of hers where the hero went too far in humiliating the heroine and I hated the heroine for letting him.

Pamela, cosign on your number 2! And I love beta heroes!

message 18: by Maria (new)

Maria | 135 comments I could never tire of a dangerous hero. They are just so interesting in many different dimensions. They have this aura that keeps you wanting more, lol.

I may switch off for about a week and read something mundane but will always go back to them.

I haven't read a hero that was way too much for me yet but a few were borderline though.
