This isn't a particular IVP question. But does anyone have some suggestions for a basic book on how the bible was formed and got into its current form. I have a friend that is looking for a book suggestion. I have read Pelikin's Whose Bible Is It? but it has been a while and from my memory that is probably more academic that I am looking for.

Hi Adam,
Someone may have another suggestion, but here's one from IVP:
http://www.ivpress.com/cgi-ivpress/bo...
Canon of Scripture by F.F. Bruce
Winner of two 1990 Christianity Today Awards: Readers' Choice (1st place; theology & doctrine) and Critics' Choice (1st place; theology & doctrine). This is still an academic book even if it's introductory, so it might not be what you're looking for.
